Congratulations! I have a custom diplomacy race.... the Diplosquirrels! They'll trade the nuts off you!

I've been thinking a lot about terrain features. I suggest these: Asteroid fields. These are impassable to everything except tiny ships. They are spawned at the start of the map and form (player option) x% of the map.... they're scripted to generally form in long thin clumps, not just appear at random in different tiles. This gives the possibility of a tiny fighter, guerilla warfare tactic both for harrassing deep behind enemy lin
I agree with the consensus that it you dislike their actions, you declare war on them. It would be nice to threaten them, but as that's not an option right now, let's look at the current system. If a Major race AI starts dropping influence bases near your planets, they are doing so for a reason. It is probably very likely that they have a military advantage over you and have had bad relations ongoing for some time. Threatening them probably
It's not a bug it's a design decision. It is, however, an unpopular one that will be changed in the next version patching in at the end of this month. In the next patch, unused social spending will go into military spending. Unused military spending will go into the treasury.
The best solution to this as I can see it (I did mention it before but it got lost in all that drivel!! ) is to make all the core races uncustomisable. Give them all fixed strengths and weaknesses that are unmodifiable unless you edit the xml. This creates more scope in the custom races. First of all, custom races should have access to all abilities. So you could, for example, give
Empyrean... you really need to research more diplomacy techs. Telling people they speak drivel, that they're stupid, childish, calling their opinions fallacies.... First of all, if you had any idea what a straw man was in the first place, you'd know that it is a logical fallacy, not just a smear you apply to someone else's opinion. It's not a big step
Many people like to make symmetrical ships. Thus, instead of having to put each piece 2 times, could you add an option to mirror 1 half of the ship unto the other? Kinda like the symmetry filter in 3D Studio Max. I think it would be awesome. Wow.... I've said this before and friends that have popped
Just some comments on your observations. First of all, Inteliigent is the highest AI - all unlocked, so past there the AI is only getting cash bonuses. 1) If anything, the AI sometimes overbuilds farms and cant keep his morale in check. I regularly see 21b+ worlds. 2) There's a secondary factor here. They might not win, but they can hurt you economically by using Death Squad type invasion tactics. Basically, kamikaziing 1000 troop
Empyrean... you really need to research more diplomacy techs. Telling people they speak drivel, that they're stupid, childish, calling their opinions fallacies.... hell, I even read you say in another thread, and I quote "those peoples opinions dont count". We disagree, deal with it. You stated your opinions and no one attacked you personally, instead of strengthening your point with personal attacks you seriously undermine them.<
The civs you gave your trade good to never lose the advantage of it. Even if they are at war with you. Yeah this is a real shame and something to bring up for later patches I fee... I mean, I can see why it is this way - so you dont exploit them by selling all your trade goods for tech to the AI then immediately declaring war on them!. <b
Sounds like you slipped the net. How about sending a mail to support@stardock - just go look in Stardock central, Im sure you can find contact details there.
Meanwhile the Terran player, with superior diplomacy, has got a good deal on miniurisation tech from someone else, the Altarian lpayer has researched it himself, and everyone else is sending warships straight at you after your disasterous attempt at diplomacy ended with you calling their mothers walruses.
If you have 3 of the same ship exactly, 9.99 times out of 10 it will either go for a random one or for 1 that has the least hp (either through exp or from damage). Sometimes, if the damage on one of your ships gets fairly high but theres a lower level ship in the stack, they'll go for the lower level one first, even though they have better chance of killing your damaged veteran.
It is normally built by the AI before I get the tech. It's just not something I focus on.... and by the time its available, I find its bonus fairly useless. I guess pushing for it early on could prove useful in helping your economy to get on its feet, I might give it a try sometime. But for now, no.... its probably the one I value least.
As far as speed goes, how exactly is it that you guys are thinking its gonna help? In terms of the AI reacting to your superior ships by zipping in and smothering them? In terms of retaliation? If its the latter (and thats the impression I got from one poster) then that just shifts more (admittedly well deserved) focus ont
Pressing reset, then pressing back (to the menu screen) was the suggestion! When you first select a race, you will notice that it has a full series of abilities, but the Abilities bar is highlighted yellow suggesting that you click on it - as far as I can tell, you dont need to! You can just go ahead and play with the stock abilities. The -1 ability p
Yes, maintenance is based upon ship costs - you can watch the maintenance go up as you place new components on. I do basically agree that it is a very powerful weapon but I dont think it is so greatly overpowered - for its place in the tree, yes. I also fully agree that once the AI learns the value of speed, half the things we have all become accustomed to doing will need to be chucked out the window. I had a game where the Drath
I know this may not be helpful but that must be an incredibly bad bit of luck you had there. I have played this game through countless times..... on all size galaxies, on all settings and I have never seen that event. The only condolence I can give you is that you are unlikely ever to see it happen again!
Sorry.... but what is the title of your post to do with the content of it? I can't see a bug there that you are talking about? All the core races innately have a varying bonus to logistics. To reset the races you can either go into your documents, games folder and delete the custom civ files, or someone else said that you can select the civ in the menu, press the reset button at the bottom, then click back to the main menu. This i
Agreed. The core ships are really weak compared to what you can build. You can focus them how you like - Defenders with no engines, Interceptors with all guns and engines, Sensor arrays with all erm sensors.... basically, you design classes of ships. Even if you can't use the builder, you can still slap a few guns/engines onto a basic hull, maybe add a couple of wings and you're away.
I do agree that more interaction with the filing system needs to be implemented into the builder. I also have an unexplainable occurence with a Terran constructor that doesn't appear until certain techs are researched.... even though it is a barebones cargo hull creatable from the first turn.
It is actually intended apparently. I read someone from Stardock say that, so I am guessing it's not a bug. From what I understand, it would be too exploitable otherwise - you could just send in 1 troop and totally wreck their planet. This way, while the AI loses a large advantage, if you dont take the planet he at least keeps it's quality rating. Be aware that it can go awry if you get (un?) lucky in your advantage roll - it happened to me
double post
Whether the Yor are overpowered or not after the diplomacy penalty is figured in is debatable, but I'm amazed to see people who are presumably smart enough to use a keyboard actually arguing against a balanced game as a matter of principle. All of the straw man arguments about giving every race identical stats (as opposed to bala
Anyone have any tips on how to extend the lenght of ships? I have a hard time making them longer and I have noticed some that have clearly been lengthened from the original hulls. In short, you just keep building backwards. In more details: I tend to use the long flat pieces right away whe
