War, peace doesn't really matter Mumblefratz is only right if there are no enemy transports near undefended planets. I just love propaganda wars (I guess that's my German heritage...), and the AI might use your people gainst you...
Pff. Transports have to land on your worlds to use information warfare. When was the last time an AI managed to land a trasnport on one of your worlds, and if
Actually, the reason I do so much spying is because that way I know what weapons and defenses they have, and it also gives me an idea of their Soldiering ability. I've had great success (on Normal difficulty obviously) with surprising enemies with ships that they can't even dent.
Or you could just click on a planet and see the stats on the ships they have in orbit, and take a look at their tech list in the diplo menu. Viola, you just saved yourself $1000 a turn. <br/
The probelm is, the game experience varies wildly with the map settings youre playing with, and you'll get advice from people from their preferred settings viewpoint which may actually not apply to the game youre playing. For instance, colony ships, build or buy? On a large map with a lot of planets you want to rush your manufacturing capacity and start cranking out ships. On a small map, or a map with few planets to go around, you absolutely want to buy those colony ships, because a couple m
Maybe it's got to do something with allignment.
I too wondered if it might be yet another bit of weirdness tied to the Mind Control center, but Gallagher is reporting this from a Good-aligned game.
Another note I'm only noticing in 1.7 - At some point an AI will go into a very tight-fisted mode, even when I'm offering him peace and he's screwed if he doesn't accept - and each AI gives me the same message - Planet Name is MINE and it's peoples will be used how I want them to be. Something like that, anyways. It seemed to have triggered about the same time the AIs went passive, because early on this was not the case.
I
These rather important observations were getting lost in a non-specifc thread. I thought I would assemble them here for further on-topic discussion. gallagher118
Anyway, I got off to a great start, mostly because the thalains rock. What suprised me is I really didn't need the MCC, I just didn't update my factories till later. Anyway, it seems to me the AIs are not playing all that well. Don't get me wrong, they're doing stuff, but it just doesn't seem like maso stuff.
The more I play, the more I think the newest beta's got a bad AI bug. As I'm taking planets from the korath, they're not building any ships. Worse, each one has enough stored production for me to build a top of the line battleship. This beta may actually need to be removed from the metaverse, because it's way too easy.
We need to start a new thread on this with a proper subject title, because it's true and importan
One thing that's kind of confusing is the fact that these "special" weapons are weaker than the top weapon in that class yes, but it takes much less time to research them - that's the real key of their advantage. Alright!! I'm on board with that now.... wow... I haven't been picking the "Good/Neutral/Good" tech until LATE in the game... LOL I just recently figured out that w
The game is based on calculations and formula, I'm just advocating more complex formula and models. None of what I've said will affect game play too much, just slow down the end game.
I was sympathetic until this. Like the endgame needs to be any slower. Have you ever played a game on a larger than small map, with a raised planet count? The "endgame" slows to molasses, just from the sheer logistical nightmare of
Too much mundane reality is the enemy of fun. It would be helpful to know what difficulty/map settings your'e playing on. Admittedly, on the easier difficulties youre not too concerned with War, or if everyone on the map declares war on you at once...it's never anything you cant handle. On the more cutthroat difficulties you're much more concerned with the negative diplomatic impact from unprovoked invasion, because getting attacked when youre not ready for it is a much more dangerous propo
Psionic beam generally represents an early "technology victory", if you get it up and running soon enough. The evil missle is nice, but doesn't end the game like Psibeam can.
It's my understanding that the Invasion scene gets an overhaul in Twilight of the Arnor.
I generally say, if you're finding the game boring, and cruising around with maxed out weap tech, youre playing on too easy a difficulty. Ideally, you should be crapping yourself early game, and thanking your stars for uneventful "boredom". If youre finding yourself ahead of most of your opponents technologically by midgame, you're definitely on too easy a setting. The game isnt very exciting if youre not *afraid* of invasion. Secondly, try playing on a larger map with more abundant
Something that's difficult to test... as you have to be stinking it up pretty bad to be in danger of it happening...is whether any of *your* planets can be flipped under MCC. Again, difficult to gauge from casual observation, but *my* planets seem Yor-like (not playing Yor) in their resistance to influence when I have MCC enabled...which would make sense conceptually (unlike the econ doubling). Usually, by the time I get MCC I'm preparing to "sweep" the map, and as I go on my conquering spree,
AS you can see, "Mattllow" is one of my forum alts.
Just got back to this again after another project. Here's a preview of the paintjob...gives it a little bit of life. Not really a finished piece til I get around to to giving him a bit of a setting and doing something really polished. But that might be a while...seeing as i've done the Drengin, the next logical piece is the Korath, and I've got inspiration... <img src="http://img259.imageshack.us/img2
Wait, you mean I can no longer cripple an entire civillization in a single turn by parking my ships in striking distance the turn before? I might actually have to learn how to play the game then...boo! Of course, as loathe as I am to bring up one of the few subjects that makes the devs put their fingers in their ears and go "La la la...I can't hear you!" (Multiplayer, Carriers, planetary bombardment, and...), if youre going to close of this manifestation off the "sneak atta
A couple things though...are these individual tech trees just "cosmetic" differences? Are they different names for the same things that every race has..i.e., every race has a happiness boosting unit, but the Drengin's is called "arena of agony", whereas the terans have "multimedia centers"? Nope, there will actually be functional differences between them all, so all of the races will play completely differe
Well, this managed to sucker me in...I just pre ordered. I really, really thought I was done with GC2, and was just going to wait for GC3, but this sounds like its diverging significantly enough to really be a "GC 2.5". [Edit] Changed thread title to something more fitting for an ongoing thread with various "re-imagined" Gal Civ subjects. Not designing ships this time...I thought some people might get a kick out of this project I started like a billion years ago, and just took out of mothballs to use to get the hang of the new edition of Zbrush. It's a "re-imagined" Drengin "Shogun"...I wanted to make the Drengin more imposing looking to better suit their position as intergalactic heavies. I n
And whoever decided not to make a second installment of this game is also a total idiot. This is one of the best space games I've ever played, even with the flaws which I'll readily admit. It's definitely worth the $8. Well, I dont know if it was so much of a decision, as the fact that the game tanked in the U.S. first time around. This game was actually "Imperium Galactica 3" at one point, before mo
I'm thinking: an open ended sci-fi RPG in the style of Morrowind or Oblivion, only the game evolves as you play. I suppose you'll be looking forward to Fallout 3 then, made by Bethesda.
Generally speaking, yes. A number, but not all, of the "canned" races are superior to a custom race, even taking into account the value of the ability to assign "exactly" the stats you want to a custom race, which is significant. But then a number of canned races are clearly inferior to some other canned races, and you'd be far better playign a custom race. The probelm is, this part of the game was never really "balanced"...SD was happy just to let races "be what
Just noticed that Nexus has been released on Steam, and is going for 7 bucks (on special). If you missed this game the first time around, it seems like a good opportunity to check it out. As a full price first run game, there were a number of things, some (since patched) gamebreaking bugs, and an abrupt unpolished ending I would have warned against. As a 7 dollar tactical space combat sim Bargain-bin game with nice visuals and near Starcraft-quality dialogue, you could do much, much worse.<b
