Two other nice side effects: Good alignment is better, and the whole thing with having the right defense type vs. the right weapon type means more. 1st one yes, second one though is just the opposite, as I demonstrated in my original post. Such absurdly high defense ratings are making defense much more potent against opposing weapon technologies too. Now you need to overwhelm your opponent offensively, even with opposing tech. One thing is for

This thread makes me laugh (not the posters, but the issue itself). In my opinion defence was already very, very powerful in DA before the new update. Hence why I put the "lol" in the title. I knew the defense changes were in response to some very recent posts as to how it was "worthless". But I agree with you...it was plenty powerful. It maybe needed some rebalancing towards the lower end.

No. Stardock considers the new espionage money-sink "part of the game" now. We're stuck with it. I too would like to be able to disable it like some people who dont like tech trading get to do with their pet peeve.

Remember, defense blocks twice as much attack value - so a 150 def, with a sqrt of 12 is going to block 24 attack from each weapon type. What? I dont pretend to understand the arcane game systems, but Ive never heard of this. It was my understanding it was the square root value...it should only block 12 damage. If defense is doubly potent as its numerical value, why did it need buffed so profoundly again ? (again, which I dont agree with..

Im assuming then, you dont have photoshop (which does raw, and pretty much anything else you want to do with 2d images), for whatever reason. In which case you should check out Gimp (free, open source photoshop). I dont see anywhere in the documentation where it specifies raw, but its ambiguous, and Id be suprised if it didnt. In any event, its good to have in lieu of Photoshop just as an image editor. If youre going to be doing texturing/height/normal/bump map work, youre going to

I think up through "tough" difficulty its pretty easy to win with any set of bonuses youd like. The harder you set the game though, the more difficult it becomes, and the more mandatory the economic bonus is. I dont personally believe you can run at 100% production the entrie game without it. Though a good economy is a bit harder in DA than it was in DL, its not impossible to have a good economy in DA without the bonus, but youd have to devote quite a bit of effort to doing so (bu

As I noted on other threads, the AI picks its own party and spends its own unused ability points. Those two particular things changing is not a bug. Counterintuitive perhaps, when you have the option to futilely set them, but not a bug. Wait...so are you saying, the much vaunted ability to "create your own opponents" in DA is actually a waste of time? It doesnt matter what abilities you pick for them, they are going to pick their own anyways?

In my latest game , the AI is cruising around in ships with a piddling 28 attack, but a 167 armour defense. Even my massed fleet(superior logistics, 7 small and medium ships) with psionic lasers (supposed to bypass their defense for the most part...ships doing from 30 to 70+ damage a piece)barely make a dent in a single large ship , and are eaten alive. I realize defense needed a *little* attention (and I do mean a little...some vocal complainers aside, I won all my games with def

This is the advice I always give when asked about settings for beginners, and it pretty much applies to any game: Play with the default settings and learn the implications of all the variables first, so you can make educated decisions about things rather than solicitng peoples preferences...which are many and varied with no one being more or less "right". Changing the map settings will make for completey different games which much of the strategy discussed on the boards ma

This is a ridiculous way of doing things. Not everyone who is downloading from elsewhere has the ability of installing software on their terminals. That requires administrator rights which most people using other than their home system don't have. I would observe that any machine you dont have or cant get administrative rights to, is a machine you wouldnt be or shouldnt be intalling games on in the first place. I find your complaint moot. <br

I try to stave off the early game economic crash by exploiting the hell out of anomolies. I'll tech rush to sensors, before I switch over to colony ship spamming, and forgo a couple planets I could have probably gotten to in exchange for getting 3-4 survey ships out there sucking up anomolies for me, and denying them to the AI. There are plenty of 500 and 1000 bc anomolies out there (as well as any number of other benefits) that let me run my production at 100% much longer without cr

BTW, I strongly suggest you revistit some of your suicidal strategies with the new 1.5x patch. They seem to have nerfed the hell out of treaties, and diplomacy in general. Unless youve got super diplomat, even with diplo-trans, I dont think youre going to be able to cheese diplomacy nearly as easily to keep up tech wise (though the AI trades and advances just as prolifically). I knew it was a bad sign in the suicidal game I started tonight when the Torians had a manufacturing capital

I mean, thats certainly what it seems like when playing suicidal, but the documentation only refers to the 100% economic...I always just assumed the incresed tech and production was because of all the cash the AI had. So are you saying all the documen

Many of the complaints I read on this board are from people who want the game to work differently than it does, to benifit their preconcieved ideas of what the AI should do, so that they can beat it the way they want to win. Dude, what the hell are you talking about? This thread is about a legitimate game bug where one way or the other, stuff is not working that way its supposed to. Im glad it doesnt happen for you (or you simply havent noticed it), b

Yeah, I agree this is exploitable. I can use a huge ship with lots of attack to take out entire enemy fleets. Nullspace, are you the guy who was bragging awhile back how his +650 missle attack ship was able to exploit this? Sure, its exploitable under extreme circumstances, but not for most game situations, and not if youre playing on a hard enough difficulty to keep you from running up you

A minor ,but interesting, glitch. In my [DA]games, when you click on another Civs planet, then bring up the Fincance Management menu (f4) and adjust one of the sliders, the build time on the presently queued up ship will appear on that planets starport window on the main interface menu bar at the bottom (under the "ships in orbit , and above the "spy" and "speak to" buttons). If youre *supposed* to be able to see this info, then its a glitch that it doesnt appear until you tweak the

I wouldnt say neutral is "overpowered" in DA (It used to be in DL)...its just that Good, and to a lesser extent Evil, suck. (I realize this might be splitting hairs a bit, but I feel the solution is making good and evil a little better, not nerfing neutral) If military stabases and military starbase tech were less of a waste of time and resources, "Evil" would probably be great. In the perfect universe that Stardock imagines where people actually build military starbases, I can see

And a stupid question, but could it be the case that the Devs wanted improvements to be destroyed what a planet is taken over? I could see the logic behind that (sort of) or is this a confirmed bug? Only if you use a destructive invasion tactic (mass drivers, gas, etc). There is defeintely a bug afoot, though the nature of the bug is elusive.

also keep in mind, that even though custom races will have fewer net bonuses, they can choose any super ability. i think that's fairly important. Pick the stock race with the superability you want, add their bonus ability points to "customize" them to suit your playstyle, just in the same way thats supposed to be the balancing factor for why custom races get the shaft. In almost all cases( except for a couple stock races that are just
