You know, the more I see it happen, the more I think its not so much tiles that are supposed to be there disappearing, but an inflated display of tiles that shouldnt be there in the first place showing up on invasion(then correcting itself). I mean, Ive invaded some class 3-7 planets that seemed *way* more powerful, tile-wise, than they should have been (they had the tile payload of a class 15-19), only to see them dissappear down to more reasonable levels for the planets qual

you should notice that a blank custom race starts out with Logistics +6. So you are getting something for free(in terms of points). Um, yeah...check the stats for every other race...every race gets at least +6 logistics, if not more...its a wash. My custom races far outfight the ai ones. I find it harder to use the Stock races then a custom. because with custom race I can fill the parts that I lack in game with bonuses

You have a very, very nasty and devious turn of mind, LOL That's a new one on me, I'll be putting THAT to use, hehe. Of course with Super Diplomat ability its easier to bribe 'em (usually) and cut to the chase This is true. Although sometimes a race wont give you an option to pay them to attack another race, for whatever reason...usually because theyve become too chummy. Plus, Ive got to do something with the boatloa

Although I do consider it a minor exploit, sometimes I like to research Mass Driver Theory really early and trade or sell it to all of the other races - but make sure not to give them Space Weapons. Pretty soon all of the other races are developing mass driver weapons, then I can develop one type of armor that will work against everyone. Thats not an exploit, thats just good strategy and mastery of the game. At some point, everyone just learns ho

Im glad I wasnt the only one experienceing this. I tried to test it out, but there are just so many variables that go into each invasion (what techs you have at time of invasion, what method you use to invade, etc) its difficult. As long as we're speculating, *I* think its related to the terraforming system. The problem seems to go away for me when I have terraforming tech fully researched (and of course, use non -destructive invasion)...so maybe it has to do with buildings built on t

Why should they be off by default? They are part of the game , and things that are off by default are things many casual players will never then experience. You should at least experience something first, so you can make an educated apprasial of it before you decide that you hate something (like the new esionage system...) and then be grateful that you have an option to remove it from your games ( unlike the new espionage system...) I strongly suspect the "ZOMG!MEGAEVENTSSHOULDBE

Rating systems in message boards are never worthwhile to any significant degree. Youre just opening it up to popularity contests, (digg, shoutwire, anyone?) especially if any sort of medals, bling, or other recognition are going to be attached to the function ( *shudder* ). Now, if youll excuse me, I have to go get my posse to rave all my posts, and slag everyone I dont agree with.

It might feel more exploitive if the Minor races ever had any any real significant techs to trade for them. But in the games that I play in DA, the minors are Far behind the rest of the galaxy technologically( I vaguely remeber MRs being tech powerhouses in the earlier days of DL, but no more), and have nothing really helpful to offer...the most youll get is a bit of coin. Furthermore, if you trade a colony tech to a minor race( or any other), you are, in effect, trading it to the

I wish Id actually see a mega event in my games :/ In the 15 or so games of DA Ive played, i dont think Ive seen any...other than a couple enemy planets getting smashed into asteroids. I mean, theres have been the normal economic and influence boom events, but those happed in DL. Id like to see there bee a setting for frequency of mega events, so I might actually see one in some of my games <

High diplomacy = "easy" button. High diplomacy bonus rocks...it makes everything in the game easier. If youre playing with tech trading, the galaxy is your shopping cart. And on the hardest difficulty levels where they key is to "survive" the early game until you can overwhelm opponents with infrastructure, the high diplomacy acts as a deterrent on its own merits, as well as being able to easily pay people off to attack each other( and keep them off your back) . <br

My expectations are not dashed...Im fluent in pre-release Devspeak...allow me to quote myself : Id settle in for the long haul, tide yourself over with Dark Avatar, SupCom, the C&C3 demo thats due out next week, EU3 or whatever. I know the unmistakable sounds of backpeddling when I hear them, and now I wouldnt expect the beta to start until sometime in March (if then). This is a good thing...its mo

Bing, are you saying if you settle every PQ1 planet it will end up being an monster planet? Yes, with terraforming. Each tier of terraforming seems to get you 4-6 tiles on the PQ1s. Like I said, i wouldnt pick them up untill you have soil enhancement and habitat improvement (and theres no rush, since the AI ignores them), but once you do theyll pop immediately into a very decent world. With all three tie

In DA, theres a bit of cheese concerning the PQ1 planets. While Pq 3 to 5 planets will usually improve somewhat (3-5 points) with terraforming, the PQ 1 planets ALWAYS shoot up to a tile-laden class 11-14 planet...and the kicker is, the AI *never* settles them. So a little further into every game when youve picked up a couple levels of terraforming, you can shoot around and pick a bunch of free PQ11-14 planets. (If youve aligned neutral or built an orbital terraformer, all the ti

Meh. With the right techs and a properly specced race , it just aint that expensive. Buying a midgrade weapon tech is more expensive. If your econmy isnt built well, and youre worried about saving a few bucks on that specific transaction, it seems to me going the super diplomat route would be better...youd save money on everything in that menu, not just attack transactions. By midgame with the kind of infrastructure the Yor or the Thalans are capable of if built properly, youre jus

The Yor remain the best all around race in the game. A generous helping of the Best/most useful stat bonuses, two of which cant be replicated any other way, one of the best Starting tech spreads, near immunity to cultural influence (you dont think twice about leaving a lone planet awash in a sea of another races color) a highly decent super ability, and ten bonus points to dump on top of everything. Not only are they the best, they are *unbalanced*. Super-Hive strikes me as the b

Playtesting the rough early Beta of the game isnt going to satisfy you as a player anyways because so much stuff will be borked, broken, biffed, boffo, or whatever B word you'd like to use thats the point of beta testing, we fix things. and besides, it'd still be satisfying. probably more so if we can shape the outcome. I didnt say it wouldnt be satisfying, Spamn

Not worth much"? Are you nuts? Most games I'm pulling in about a third of my income off trade No offense, but if thats the case, your economy probably sucks. If I lost every scap of trade in my games, and the entire universe embargoed me, Id still be making hundreds a turn. Trades just bonus cash, and Im not Im not in the position to have to depend on it( like I would if it was a third of my income). Not to say you cant make a good ch

What can I do to sour relations and make things more "interesting?" Take a couple massive fleets with about a dozen troop transports, and park them in the square right next to their homeworld for a few turns. Theyll get the idea. Make sure you've cut off any trade with them, of course.

I just got the email. 1) It is legit right? (yes, Im paranoid) 2) Is there *any* chance of this messing up any metaverse games I have in progress, or any future meta games, or meta stats in general?

Sins is more like SupCom than anyone dare let on, which is why it may be a good idea to learn from SupComs mistakes. I'm afraid you may be right. I had allowed myself to hope it might be more like EU3 in space, but it seems its just going to be just another (despite a lot of nonsensical "Homeworlrd meets GalCiv2" hype) fairly standard Factional combat RTS. But, we wont know until the beta, and Ill reserve judgement until then. <

[Suggestion] I realize that youre hampered by practical concerns in this area and so much of this is wishful thinking, but... In lieu of being able to design one's own ships in-game(a la Gc2), could a wide lattitude be given to the tolerance of harmless custom artistic content in Multiplayer games? What I mean is, as much as possible, allow us to use our own custom ship skins and models in multiplayer matches without tripping a cheat flag. I would think

I do play with Max cpu enabled. Im am also a rather prolific ship designer myself. But I would think that would slow the specific game in progress down over time, but not neccesarily the degrading performace for each play session. In any event, its far from unplayable, and just restarting the program every so often seems to avoid the crashes. Its probably just the impact of the heavier CPU usage from DA in relation to DL.
