I found that if you keep your ships out of their sensor range they will for the most part leave you alone. They seem to search out some ships and starbases, destroy them and then find a empty space on the board and did not move unless I had ships approach. Sota like Reavers that way.

I like to pick a lone minor race that has a couple of targets fighting him and transfer large amounts of weapons and credits to him for free. Even building and upgrading star bases in his area then transferring it to him. Though they normally squander the resources (I don't think the AI quite knows what to do with gifts)....

Also, just becuse you're at war doesn't mean you need to go "total war" on them. If beatinghtem now means trashing your military and economy, then just take one or two places (if any), beat down thier ships and force a peace treaty. That way, you stay at full production the whole time, and when the inevitable 2nd war starts you can make sure it's on your terms.

Also, a loss of trade routes when war starts can quickly drop your income. You mentioned you are using normal invasion so as not to damage infrastructure, if that is so, you are losing a lot more people then you would in other routes. This loss of people is a loss of tax revenue. Further, I've often taken planets where teh ai had let the morale go to pot, which quickly droped my nations morale. Make sure you balance that quickly, even if

When you think about how big space really is, it makes sense not to have "ownership" of the area between stars. Perhaps, for gameplay sake, make there be lesser penalties for engaging in combat inside of your influence area (i.e., the ai perhaps not going to war immediatly).

I think it would really depend on teh AI. The Drenjin would proberbly declare war immediatly while teh Altarians would proberbly try to appease thier way out. I think that it might also work if the AI demanded compensation first (you blew up my starbase, i demand 1,000 bc or we will declare war, etc) before actually engageing, unless of course you invaded a planet.

Lets compare: You buy a car. After the car is delivered to you, there is no gasoline, you have to call someone to bring some to you, because you cannot drive. After this you notice the wheels are ... there are only 3 of them (no it's no Ferrari!!) and then you notice the color of your car is yellow, like ordered, but the bac

The Ai doesn't start out with any more planets or ships then you do, nor does it "cheat". It just undderstands the ingame mechanics, and knows how to manipulate it (as you soon will) so as to get a big opening push. While stratagies vary (and will likely change more once 1.1 arrives) about how to start and what to build first, once you have a couple games under you belt (and understand the tax/spend/buy parts better) you'll find yourself out building

If your just buying techs, you are always a step behind AND giving all your money to those who are smarter then you. Not a terribly efficient way to compete by subsidising your enemies.

Perhaps becuase the AI already has built in morale leanings. The Drenjin are always evil (unless a random event comes along), so tehy don't focus on it. But, I did have one (just one) game where one of the AI did research it, becuase when I was trading with them, they had sub-space rebounders (which I promptly got my hands on, and maimed the galaxy).

What I've found to eliminate about 95% of my save/load crash/corruption problems is to always manually save under a new name. This builds up save games quick, but you can easily delete them. I typically save them numerically so as to keep better track (1, 2, 3, etc). I've only had one or two problems since I started three weeks ago.

PLEASE give jewelry a basic description of what it is. There is no point what so ever in a multible descriptions like: "Customize how your ship looks visually with Extras". Thats part of the magic of it, the jewlry is what ever you want it to be! A dome for instance, is it a bridge, observation
