For my opening planet, I build two Xeno Labs frst (buy them), then three-4 factories (depending on space and bonuses, if there are production bonuses, less), then two entertainment things (by late game I'm taxing at 80%, so I start early), market, tehn what ever. I like the research early since they can really help out the initial techs, and since I research 'research labs" first, by the time my home world builds up, they are ready to upgrad

Thanks for the tips, I'm trying to implement some. The diplomacy seemed to help a lot, especially since I coud end the wars when i wanted to on what terms (usually).
I've been having a problem ever since I set the AI to tough (with the beta AI). That is, I build up a military, but someone declares war eventually. I fight it out, and win, but by the time I'm done my military is pretty softend up. Suddenly, a couple races that were at "friendly" give me double negitives for "military strength", and declare war on me. As I then fight them off, my military continues to go down, and soon everyone is attacking me.<br
They said in teh release notes that save games might not work for beta 4. (or somewhere, I'm pretty sure it was release notes).
I'm using firefox, and had some trouble at the begining. I e-mailed tech support, got an e-mail back the next day saying that they had fixed whatever my problem was, and it's worked ever since.
What I would like ot see, as a complement to the Snathi, is a minor race of Penquins. I don't care if they are eveil, good or neutral, just give me penquins!
I noticed in my most receant game (beta- most recent update) that if you click on an enemy planet (with no espionage alloted), then leave them selected and bring up you economy screen, that by then adjusting your tax rate it will show how long until that planets next ship is produced. This isn't terribly helpful since it still wouldn't show what ship it is, but it could be used to gauge how much time you have to reach an undefended planet.
If yu like high end wars, you could se t it to battle of the gods.
unfortunately I don't understand all what "Supreme Shotgun" said some of the sentences proposed are just too obscure for me... like the reference to Alan Bradley or James Kona or the dog or Billie Jean Alan Bradley is the name of the human leader in the game, teh referance is from Star Wars
I never abandon anything, what is the point? You just lose resources. If you are losing a war, sometimes it's better to scrap a colony rather then hae it taken, since it will reduce the enemies "snowball" effect. Rebuilding from scratch is a better option (sometimes) then reconquering a fully deve
I just had two civs surender to me withen 10 turns of a tech victory. this woud not normally be significant, except that it was the first time I had gotten planets outside my home system (gigantic galaxy, rare stars, I was in a corner and the nearest planet was 19 squares away). I couldn't figure out why they chose me, maybe they figured they would hope on the evolution band wagon.
Turns out I upgraded ALL of my Large Attack vessels into 33 speed 15 sensor SCOUT SHIPS... That's awesome! I would be so mad, lol!
I was going through, burning off excess cash by buying upgrades for my colonies (taken during a war, in which most of the improvemtns had been destroyed). I didn't realize that I had misclicked on all the colonies (not paying attention in general), and I ended up buying about three multimedia centers per planet (with about 4-5 planets total, it was a huge waste of money). Another was when I designed a new ship to for a massive war that was
It's realized that you didn't purchase your copy(the AI is that good) and is punishing you.
Check the report screen, see where your lacking. If it's military, build some ships. If it's diplomacy, research some. And sometimes it just takes a lot of patience.
They also proberbly have the Glactic influence wonders. Make sure to snag those as quickly as possible.
Best way I've found is a scorched earth policy, it throughs them off, then allows the other races to be a altarian/torian/thalen/whatever shield. By the time they fight it out over one or two planets (becuase you destroyed the rest) you allies will easily be fighting them off (after taking the planet back and forth your allies steal lots of high level tech). THen, you can build up, and launch a high level attack against the weakend Dread Lords. It t
Starbases are key at higher levels. learn to maximize the cost gain ratio for the early start (bigger isn't always better). Also, while you don't neccearily need a build order, it's helpful to have a good idea coming into the game what to do to maximize the opening rush. Learn your opponents. If Torians are near by, know what you need to work with them, etc. Finaly, and most importantly, practise. That's the only re
I would rather play Stardock's beta than EA's or Atari's final.
Try paying the weakest of the other alliance to attack one of your allies (strongest). Often a alliance member won't join thier ally if they are the aggressor (and since you demanded it it shouldn't require to to fight). Or, momentarily step out of your alliances, pick a fight between the sides, then join up once the Torian fleets are commited esle where.
The beta is supposed to be the final draft. Because you can not, or should not be releasing a "draft" to the public. The Release version is simply the real piece, not draft, and you send it out to grading, in this case to the market. It's more like the proof reading copy. You let others proof
This has actually been by far the most stable of any version for me. For the first time since I got the game (about ten minutes after they released it online ) I hasn't crashed, slowed down, or anyhting like it. 1.0X could go for about an hour before crashing (even with throttle locking), but this one went for four last night before I turned it off.
Alliances are also great since you can then flip you allies entire civilization without them doing anything.
War always works well, be it from you or all the other races you paid off. In my last game the Torians were taking everyone to town (paid off the galaxy to fight them). They were winning, until I too thier home system (culturally, but military would work also). Suddenly they lost thier momentum and were overrun. They went from controling about 50% of the galaxy to about 15-20 in a year. Another, be sure to trade for any influence tech th
The Torians, those are the biggest bunch of flip-flopers I've ever seen, you just can't trust them.
