Ahh no if you have the solution then fire away, trust me I would be incredibly happy - but unless you understand the bios well - i.e the effect of reducing hyperthreading on the MB etc or know of a particularly driver that solves this I suspect we haven't got a lot left todo without the devs finding a software solution. Because you don't have the problem just means its quite hard to perceive aka your comment re onboard sound :) Tals
It amazes me that people are content with using an onboard sound card. You wouldn't dream of running a game like Demigod with an onboard video card and expect good performance, would you? Pet peeve of mine, please don't take personal offense. For those with x-fi cards, make sure you are running in "game mode". This guy wrote an app that allows you to quickly switch between modes. You can even setup profiles to switch modes

Out of interest if you play with /nosound switch do you find a significant performance increase. My suspicion is you will. If so post to here to register that you have the same issue http://forums.demigodthegame.com/348232

Agreed it would be useful if Stardock posted a list of current issues that are being worked on. Mine is /nosound issue - sort that and I will be happy http://forums.demigodthegame.com/348232

The game should be fine on that GPU - won't be great but I don't think should cause the lag you are experiencing I suspect like a lot of us the issue is a problem with the sound side of things which is causing the game to lag. I have an AMD 3200+, 8800GT, 2GB ram. Running with the /nosound switch I get +40fps, without it I am lucky if I squeeze 20fps. Try it and if it works then post to http://forums.demigodthegame.com/348232 Tals</p
I'm not sure it's a motherboard specific issue as I have a Gigabyte EP31-DS3L and am experiencing /nosound related slowdown. I tried the very latest Realtek audio drivers which were released a couple of days ago but it didn't make any discernible difference. Anyone checked the new patch for improvements yet? Can't see any mention of the issue being addressed in the patch notes unfortunately.
I tested it this mor

Just found a very interesting article http://www.rme-audio.de/english/techinfo/nforce4_tests.htm this suggests that the nforce4 implementation causes the system to be bogged down with high graphics and sound http://www.rme-audio.de/english/techinfo/nforce4_tests.htm Need a dev to help us.

Stil Rey - what MB is that? My hope is regardless of the cause the devs can find a work around - whether that is to enable proper HW Sound - would be nice :) or allowing more cutting down of the sound eg force stereo/mono etc, I don't mind I just want a solution :(
Bu...bu...bu... i like the sound
I would suggest posting to the other thread - link on my post above. This is the instruction thread the other thread is the complaint and the confirmation that it is a workaround. If enough people post to it then it will make the devs more interested. If it's just 6 of us (which I think is about the number people indicating they are having the problem) then we're never see a fix. <

I removed the Xfi card out of my box - updated the bios, drivers, sound drivers. Still exactly the same symptons. Which is good as it takes the Xfi card out of the frame. Onboard sound had exactly the same issue with no xfi present I did briefly downgrade to Nvidia 174.74 as I read somewhere that had worked better but no joy on this. I think i've pretty much exhausted every option now - really need the devs to get involved and give us some things to try :(

Great updates, thank you. I'm hoping you have the /nosound issue in your main list of issues. If people find a significant performance increase by using /nosound on the command line then please post to here http://forums.demigodthegame.com/348232 . This issue is a real deal breaker for me :( Needs to be a sticky on the /nosound issue imho.

Excellent post thank you :) If you do find you get a significant performance increase please post to http://forums.demigodthegame.com/348232 . Only if enough people show they have the issue will we have any hope the issue will get resolved. /nosound is a workaround but the option of playing with nosound is not great Tals

Out of interest what motherboards do people have. I use a Nforce 4 Ulta Motherboard. Has everyone here got an Xfi Sound Card - with my tests I did disable the Xfi and use the onboard sound card and with the Xfi disabled it went fast but when I used the onboard sound card (which also supported 5.1) it went slow. The only thing I didn't do was take the Xfi sound card out. If someone confirms that when they did that the performance was significantly better with the onboard card than just
At this point, looking at the history with SupCom, I'd be grateful to hear anything from the devs on this. Even bad news is better than being left in the dark. Though as I said before, I can't even imagine what aspect of a sound engine could justifiably double or triple system load. This would be easier if Demigod were a crappy game, then I'd just stop playing it
Agreed at the moment i'm looking at a stop
Hmm, I'd never heard of the sound issue in SupCom. I never actually had any issues that were soudn related in that game, but it looks like that was primarily for XFi (I'm running Audigy2). Lets hope we have better luck this time =P
If you read the gaspowered thread you'll see its very much an issue in SC - 18 pages, it was also more Audigby 2 - but that appeared to be 'solvable' by turning off 5.1 M

Agreed it doesn't look good. I'm going to be trying a load of stuff tonight. If I hit the jackpot i''ll post but it would be nice for a dev to get involved and either give us options to force sound to be a lower quality eg mono etc or just give some more input. Certainly I believe the issue is more widespread than was appretiated. Tals
Quoting Hollow Man, reply 23Aryanna and Renwold, your issue sounds like mine. Does the problem go away if you zoom in on your Demigod? Zoom and move around to a different part of the map? I've noticed this can help at times. Also, does it happen in multiplayer? Like I said, I think this happens when the AI calls get to be too much, it overloads the processing, and sucks the framerate down. -HM<br /
