It's done so if there's a conflict between old custom stuff and the new build, users don't come back to the forums reporting problems because of outdated content. Because Stardock employees have to investigate those claims, find the problems....and find out it's because someone is using old content. That's time wasted on a legacy problem.
So archive it. There is no reason to delete it.
Half of game .inits are stor

Ok - I forgot I backed up my custom Elemental stuff on the 29th. Glad I was using good modding practices and making changes in another directory before copying them in to test them. :D I would still suggest warning people before deleting stuff that's not even in the game directory. It's called " My documents" for a reason - they are MINE.

I spent a lot of time on my custom races. To have them arbitrarily deleted with no warning pisses me off to no end. I'd love to know which of the fixes included in this patch necessitated deleting user made content. [e digicons]>:([/e]

I've just been going with one caster/two meat shields (both heroes - no regular units in my parties). Caster gets anything the helps extend vision; everyone gets movement upgrades (when possible) as a priority; meatshields upgrade defense first, then attack. Additional heroes make up a second party with the same configuration. I'll rarely combine into a party of six (2 casters/4 meat) when facing some more difficult enemy, but that's rare. Regular units are only used
Even if all the mechanics worked perfectly (they still don’t), it is hard to care about what happens to Kraxis or Capitar or Alderaan or Narnia or whatever.
LOL. That's why either the in-game story telling needs to drastically improve (call me skeptical that this approach will ever really work), or it's fantasy tropes to the rescue!
First time poster (huh; guess I can use my Impulse account to post here). I think I've found a way to fix this. Was looking at my custom races' .xml data, to see if there was anything different from the coreraceconfig .xml which has all the original races, and I noticed one thing: For the original races, all of them had 'Good' or 'Evil' Alignment tags. For all of my custom factions, they

Have you tested by running a save both with and with the cleaner to see the difference? I'm curious. Thanks. I have yet to crash using this memory utility. Haven't had a chance to play more than an hour or so, though. The real test comes later tonight and tomorrow as I am off the next few days. [/quote

It's actually a very simple game hidden under some confusing and poorly documented mechanics. Produce food and gildars, build huts/houses/villas, and hire every hero you can and build up your defense techs (with an occasional offense thrown in for good measure). Magic/Adventure/Diplomacy you can research when you have nothing better to do in the other tech trees. The opening turns are probably the most difficult and are the only ones the require a modicum of thought/strate
Just a real quick note here: While some problems people run into are indeed due to hardware configurations, in my experience, the difference has to do with the way people play the game.
I'm playing the game the same way I was in the betas. What frustrates me is that the late betas (s/t onward) did NOT crash, but the final release does. What changed between the betas and the release??
Stardock's Beta and QA process is broken, they never gave the final version of 1.1 to the beta testers, the last version before release was 1.09w which was out for testing less than 24 hrs. Instead they made changes to 1.09w and then just released it as 1.1. This is the same thing they did before the games initial release back in August. Beta testers never saw or tested it before release.
Thank you!! I was starting

I'm using Memory Cleaner prior to running the game and having better success. Obviously this should not be necessary. http://www.koshyjohn.com/software/
Okay, so I kept my mouth shut and waited for the great 1.1 patch; finally get it and less than 1 hour into my first game it CTDs.
Really? Only takes me about 30 minutes. I played every beta, watched the game get more and more stable until 1.09v when it never crashed at all. Then they put out 1.1 and it's back to crashing every 30 minutes. Strike three. Game froze up and had to do a hard reboot. Honestly, v1.09v was WAY more stable than this - never crashed or froze once in hours and hours of play. I'm going to go play Civ 5 now until you guys figure out what's wrong. I can't play more than 30 minutes without crashing or freezing.
