I notice that the AI actually follow the diplomatic values better, and they aren't all the same anymore. Some of them are good and some are not so good. You can get better deals from the not so good ones, but gone are the days of pillaging all the AI's the same. I like the fact that even if I get diplomatic translators and go up the tree I still find there are races with better diplomacy skills than myself. I notice to that some of the races are "also rans"... In any g

I liked the old one better also... the flags jumping is rather silly. If the flags were to change to my color as the "front" moved across the planet, maybe... I'd also like to know why all the population is killed off. Any smart conquerer knows to keep SOME of the locals around... somebody has to work. And all my soldiers suddenly laying down their weapons to be colonists? Hello... I didn't spend all that money and time running up the tech tree and building all those t
I have had this happen intermittently, usually later in the game when there's alot of ships etc. It's tied to movement for sure, and happens much more frequently if I click on an opponents ship or starbase. It like the game gets confused as to which player I am. I cycle through every ship I have... usually I can find the one that's stuck. I am going to keep a ship in orbit on purpose from now on, because it seems once you can get a ship to actually move, the game reset
Aisle 7, right next to the sleep aides. The SoaSE patch can be reached either ingame, via the get update button... Or via StarDock Central. Also through Impulse, but I haven't got that one figgered out yet. I use StarDock central so I can archive the last update in case there is an issue with the new one. It's free, and automatically checks for game updates whenever I start it. T
(says to himself) Oh man Oh man...try not to be a smart a**...try not to be a smart a**... X-( It would be humongously, hugely helpful to know what you want to post and where. The answer to your open ended question could be as simple as "putting them in an envelope, affixing the proper postage and dropping them in a mailbox"... although even I, with mind as solid as a steel sieve can safely assume this is not your intention. IF... I'm guessing here, mind you
From what I can tell after a quick search... Zonelab(s) used to be the company that did zone alarm, which is now owned by checkpoint... (yeah... go corporate america!) They redirect right to the zone alarm site... I currently run the Firewall/anti-virus combo, so I am not sure if this will work for you... Right click on the "Z" icon, lower right corner... there is a list, enable internet lock, stop all internet activity and game mode. I lock out the internet
I have swapped emails three times during my tenure, and SD has changed them for me with no problems... I had the same issue when I purchased ToA... It was a quick email to stardock support with my old and new info. They changed it and emailed me back... heck, I think it was that afternoon. They have been nothing short of great in all the dealings i have had with them. As for the bugs... I always hope for the "no terror star" referendum, and hope we all vote yes. I pers
SDC is nice like that... I have used it for awhile now, and while it's a little odd at first, you begin to wish all companies would have an interface like that to keep track of things. Occasionally Stardock Central will not see an update, but there's three threads in the forums about it by the time I check, along with instructions about what to do. Usually an XML update or swapping the server the program looks for, very easy to do, and once you have done it a few times

Just for informational purposes.... I don't think I have this bug... is it a "universal" one, or a hit and miss? I do notice some length of time for techs, but only towards late game, and turns still seem to be within normal. Ie: photonic torpedoes would take 7 to 10 turns or so... hardly the astronomical times some have posted... After installing incorrectly, the game was all messed up. It pays to read the beta forum notes before you update... ;p Then I wen
With Zone Alarm, I have a "game mode" which I can turn on. It has a "deny all alerts" or some such so that the pop-ups you are having don't happen. With the internet locked out and this on deny all alerts, I get no pop-ups, no interruptions. I can even turn off the anti-virus if I want, although It makes little difference either way. Even with the latest patch, which allows an alt-tab, ToA only lets me do it once before it crashes. With the system locked down, it won't
I just had one that lasted for 2 hours of playing time... just when I thought the mechanic might be broken... it ended. I have noticed alot of the "random" elements are different in ToA. Some actually happen, like actually getting a creative tech early... while those that used to happen happen differently. Some seem to repeat alot now, like the influence events. It IS different each game though, which IMHO is a good thing. Except for the leader assassination one. That happens EV

Is Killer Klowns from Outer Space a Sci-Fi original?
It's a stretch to just to call that "original", SciFi or not... It's one of my top 10 movies to avoid at all costs...
After playing for a time, the game started to get a little choppy.... I used to be able to alt/tab and back and it would be OK, but now the CTD negates that option. I decided to continue on... The came something really weird... It was like an homage to disaster films of the 70's... At the begi

Poping in to thank you for this post.
The Stardock people are quite helpful... I don't think divine intervention will be necessary. Although... I did always want to take a ride in that car. Are there snacks? T

For lover difficulties...I havn't seent hose difficulty levels. Where do I find them?
Lets see... there's "garden", "fire", "Canadian".... As to the Original Post: 1-TRADE. Trade away techs, especially early, especially with minor races, especially in DA. In TA alot of the "loopholes" are amended or removed, but in DA you can get Crazy Eddie type deals for techs. KEEP important techs to yourself, like weapons or expensive ones that are

I would add the ability to dispense beer. Preferably a dark beer. Maybe pizza too.
Labatts on tap... and after trade becomes available, that tradeship that just came in to my homeworld better have some Sam Adams on it. Which race makes the best hangover medicine??? Will definitely need to trade with them.... And the economy DOES need to be fixed, along with the sliders. there's no reason to have the sliders all messed up after starting/loading
I have all three, although my Sword of the Stars is pretty old!!! I enjoyed that game quite a bit. I also enjoy Sins too, but I have gone back to GalCivII lately. You can only blow up ships the same way for so long before it gets old. I bought the Twighlight pak at the 2nd beta, and it keeps getting better. Once the final game is released, all the missing stuff will be in. Another week or two discovering the new stuff, then the ability to create content... I think my co
Valid points all around... enough so to encourage experimentation. Just wanted to say thanks for the debate guys (and girls???), and for keeping it civil. I like the fact there's not a single way to play, and that you can use a style that fits your "person". To me, that's what makes a game great to play. I also appreciate that, for the most part, responses were actually READ before being responded to. And no, it's not April 1st, that was a few week

antracer, you really should try to build scouts at the beginning of the game, it makes for a much more effecient beginning to the game. I've actually steadily increased the amount of scouts I build at the beginning of the game due to how valuable the intelligence gathered is. 3 Scouts and the intelligence they give you, are certainly worth the 600-750$ at the beginning of the game, especially given what else you can spend it on.
I don't see it. No... It just doesn't work all the time for everyone. Apparently, one must have a magic computer or a secret decoder ring or something. I didn't get one of either, so my maps are always messed up too. Read through the GalForge primer, towards the end there are some possible fixes. I myself no longer make maps, and consequently no longer play. I enjoy the creation part as much as the play part, but have little time to actually dig in and mod. The GalForge was just enoug

Yes, but I got the feeling that he thought I didn't build the scouts in the beginning but later.
Um... no. I build scout (not scouts, usually) later. I was commenting on the fact that you build 3 ships I find quite unnecessary first, wasting time and resources, and yes...
Ummm...pardon me for butting-in...but...isn't "first ships I build" counts as "beginning the game"?
...that's what I thought too... This is similar to how I pla
Are you running XP or Vista? I run XP, and had to navigate half way round the world to a folder in the "windows" hierarchy to get to the mods folder. On Vista, I hear it's worse... In the game, click the "show modpath" button and write it down. I used explorer to find it on my machine. I DO wish they would let me specify my own location... I don't have a "C" drive, mine is "I", which makes things quite interesting. T
