this is an open letter to Mr. Wardell, or any of the other developers who make commits to the AI packages, is there a way for me to use GalCiv2 as an a-life "environment"? i am a boston-based multi-media artist who is super-interested in a-life, evolutionary computation, and gaming. i participate regularly in the biota workgroup, and while i am not on the level of some of our foremost researchers on the subject like Dick Gordon, Mark Bedau, Tom Barbalet, or Larr

this is great. anything to make modding less about "debugging", and more about "creative expression" is better. this is much appreciated. -0.

i think the ideas are pretty cool. one could have a government type, a political party, an alignment, >and one could change religions the way one changes political parties, or government types. theyd have different bonuses and advantages--perhaps opening up different tech lines... the evolution idea could be included as a political party or a tech line. examples like specific genetic engineering techs for combat bo

was it a trolling post? are you sure? i thought i was reacting to other posts... which everyone has a right to post there opinion.. lol. any attempt at comedy is for purely protective reasons. if i try t

lol. again! i feel compelled. it's as if we were fated to meet. ctrl-n (or, controllin) whores of this great cheat-code divide. you say, quote, "I respect all who dont agree with my opinio, I think nothing less of you as Im no better or different then anyone else here." but then you say (to me, or

lmao. this has to be the most hilarious instance of "paranoid entitlement" i've ever seen for a game. surely, you are kidding. this is an ironic post, right? are you this dramatic when safeway runs out of fruit loops? as to the "issue" (ahem) at hand--i think you are overestimating the role of "cheat-codes" in ruining the game. your argument is akin to blaming a woman for being raped because she's hot and likes to drink whiskey. perhaps that's a bit st

this argument is at least 50 years old. read clement greenberg's essay on "avant-garde and kitsch" in his book "art and culture" if you want the 'original' essay. you might even find it online. it's not a new concern. there will be no "return to its former status [as] the past time of teenage boys and middle-aged nerds at gaming conventions." lol. look at the "damage" duchamp and andy warhol did to art. it's a billion dollar industr

it is my understanding that "direct debit" of checking accounts requires a significant up-front payment in order to license the software. it's the most "secure", which is why it's the most expensive. that's why only the major online retailers, or companies generating lots of revenue, have that option. credit card transactions generally charge a nominal fee (either straight like 2 cents, or a percentage of the total) per transaction; cheaper, but less secure. my credit card

this is starting to sound like two women from the upper east side debating the merits of a Louis Vuitton handbag versus Marc Jacobs. reading the modding guide (yah, i know, i'm a nerd too) it says pretty clearly: "AIValue assigns a value to the tech for the AI when deciding if it should trade it or not; the higher the value, the less likely the AI is to trade this tech." so, to my understanding, klingons can go home with their disruptors and the feds can play with their pha

see, i think if all the people that wanted MP tried to "seduce" the devs, they might have considered it more seriously. i mean, if you can "seduce" someone to come home with you (with all its "risks"), you can 'seduce' someone to write code for you. and yes, theres a difference between "buttkissing" and "seduction"--if you dont know the difference, find out. i guarantee you'll be less "frustrated". (all though, in some circles the physical act of "buttkissing" is considered

it doesn't make any sense. why would SD put up a "rigged" poll in order to fabricate an "excuse" not to do MP? really. i'm just sayin. wouldn't it be in their best interest to really find out the best way to increase revenue with the resources they have? wouldn't that make fiscal sense, and show fiscal responsibility? i wouldn't mind MP; but then I wouldn't mind if Vogue hired me as a photographer either... but I'm not gonna gnash

lol. fair point. but i still don't see where all the emotion comes from. it sounds desperate... you're not that desperate, are you? (aye, playing with AI blowup dolls does mitigate a lot of "frustration"...but perhaps your appetite is stronger than mine.) i can't say ive seduced many "people" with a "tone" like yours in the Original Post. maybe i'm trying to play with the wrong sort of people...? -0.

To SD devs, I looked at the text files one can mod for Total Conversion. Nice. However, I wondered if y'all wrote the text/values line by line in each file and laboriously cross-checked each file to make sure it all synced up right. Or did you have a spreadsheet with macro functions that would seed changes in their relevant files...? If you did have that spreadsheet--which, I'm sure was a pain in the ass to format and write--would it be poss
