Keep in mind that starports are also among the cheapest buildings. Rush building a staport the same turn you land (or the turn after) is only around a couple hundred bc. So in the beginning, it's no problem to have every world you touch producing colony ships, at least until you can't afford to buy them anymore.

It's gone from the game. I can see why they took it out, though...it was abusable. In the first game, it was REALLY easy to treaty-rape the minor races with tribute payments. With a good diplomacy mod and a trade good (or really valuable tech), you could get them paying (if I recall) 50 or 100 bc or more per turn for years. With this gone, keeping my treasure/economy up actually takes some effort.

I know this is probably too much to ask, but I also wish there were more ways to affect my alignment than random events. When you think about it, it's kinda silly that random events are the ONLY actions my empire can take to get a good or evil rating before Xeno Ethics. In the GalCiv universe, Hitler and Stalin and bin Laden would probably be neutral, at worst. And why not? You can wage invasions until you've put every other race in the galaxy to death, conquering world after world wi

The ships are out of their range. They can't move them. That shouldn't be true...when wormholes move your ships out of range, you can still move them back to your space. I've also seen minor races build starbases that were nowhere near their planet, so their range may not be as limited as some

I'd like a fix for the race creation bugs. I've also come to realize that the shipyard really needs a "Hide obsolete components" switch (like Space Empires IV had). When I'm designing ships late in the game, I hate having to scroll past all the dozens of old components I'll never use again. (MOO2 had it right here - instead of making you research, say, 5 different Lasers with the only difference being how much space they use, it just automa

Well, patchs on the website are whole patchs corresponding to new files since the release version. So this include the bonus pack. Now, if the computer on which your game is installed has an internet connection, you may want to try Stardock Central for doing the upgrade: it will download only the new files, and can resume download if it is interrupted. <br

Big David wrote: The special abilities of each races are STILL not properly editable. Yep, race creation is still broken. Right now, it looks like the only reason to choose certain races over others is because you like their name or look. And that may well stay broken, in my case. I think I'm done downloading all these 25

Unique race techs were one of the things that made Space Empires IV cool. Actually, it wasn't "unique" exactly. In that game's race creation screen, you could use some of your points to select Organic Manipulation or Temporal Manipulation or Psychic Powers or whatever. Only races that bought those advantages could research or use that tech. Something like that is among the few things that could make GalCiv 2 even cooler than it already is.

2) Unique ship loadouts. Where are the unique weapons? There are only three types of weapons and researching better ones is basically a long line of MkI MkII and so on, kind of boring. No fighters, assualt ships, teleporters, cloaks, reflection fields. With such a huge emphasis on ship design I'm really let down by the loadout choices. I see yo

But there are trade goods that give bonuses to the military. And if you traded those goods away, can the other race use it against you? For instance that Xintac (spell) armor that gives a bonus to ship armor? Yes, they can use the bonus against you. They just can't trade it to anyone else. Safe trade goods to bargain with are the Ap

I can't give GalCiv2 word of mouth right now. Or rather, I can mention it, but I'd have to warn that many people (including me) are experiencing bugs that are keeping them from fully enjoying it, even AFTER the patch (I won't go into the trouble I had downloading the thing). I would have to recommend they wait for the NEXT patch at the very least. Luckily - because I don't want this post to just be a slap in Stardock's face - I can see that the developers are being very re
