Wait for the demo. Personally, I think the game is currently in an exceptionally state which makes little fun to play, so why not wait until 1.1 is out when you can see for yourself?

Ah, thank you for the information. (Seems entirely bizarre and self-defeating to have an internationally accessable digital download plattform for internationally applicable products which are region-locked. I am sure this is not Stardock's intention, but has something to do with bizarre contracts between publisher and distributor, but seems entirely self-defeating, not to mention frustrating. I would prefer to purchase per Impulse.) If I may be so bold: Where can a person purcha
I've searched my Impulse client and cannot find any contact information whatsoever -- can someone here direct me? I have successfully purchased a few games via Impulse in the past quite happily, yet am failing to purchase Mass Effect 2 (I get the error message that it's not available in my country). Thanks much
Nice to see qualified people coming on board! Hope Elemental doesn't become even more like Civilization however...
Terribly sorry, I still cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong or what I should do to correct my mod. I feel I have it down: Put the .oggs in /Sound, changed the references of MUSIC_QUIET etc. to refer to the .oggs in the Sound file of GameInfo, and enabled the mod. Would you be so kind as to tell me the error of my ways? I didnt change the count, because the number of references in the file is still the same. Or must I change something in GameMusic.data as well? Thank you very much!<
Good luck Kael, you have a tough road ahead. I'm looking forward to seeing if Elemental can be made into something truly fun and compelling, hopefully by Q2 2011.
I am trying to learn to scout better. So far, finding it a lot easier with Advent -- when my seeker's die, I get free sight, and the culture-based spying tech is very nice. Second-best for me is TEC with the Probe; not as nice as Advent, but still helpful. I cannot figure out any tricks with Vasari however. Am I just supposed to make lots and lots of scouts? They dont have special scouting abilites, are more expensive and cost 3 supply -- just seems kind of hard to keep them alive in systems
I can't figure out how the special TEC late-game ability "Cultural Monopolization" does. I tried getting it and seeing what happens, but I cannot really see the effects. What exactly are rebellions, how do they occur, and how often? I'm not terribly interested in knowing whether this is effective in MP, just basically what it does (for "fun"). "Pervasive Economy" puzzles me too. Again, I tried researching this to see what happens, and I am not sure when and if I am making money. Am I
I agree with Frogboy. If you were dissapointed with Civ5's release, I cannot imagine you being happy with Elemental 1.0xx (currently 1.09E) -- it plays like a less buggy Elemental 1.05. I can get the game up and running and usually do not have a lot of problems having it run -- but so far, I have only been able to complete 1 game before quitting. There are just so many other things out there that my attention span seems to enjoy more after the better part of a year on beta.
Thank you. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong, and if or how what you wrote above applies to my situation.
I'm trying to replace. I'm afraid I don't entirely understand what you mean by point 2. I thought that was what I was doing. I don't see how I can do that without the gameinfo folder, in which the SoundMusic datafile is. I will email you the file. Thanks so much.
Thank you. I think I understand a lot better now. Thanks! I DLed Notepad++ and used that. I edited five sections of SoundMusic like this music name "MUSIC_BATTLE_1" fileName "Darth Vader.ogg" isLooping FALSE actionLevel 0.75 actionRange 0.35 emotionLevel 0.0 emotionRange 1.0 music name "MUSIC_QUIET_1" fileName "Paris Streatham.ogg" isLooping FALSE actionLeve
OK thank you tons! Really, thanks a lot for your patience and help. Wish I were a bit quicker on the uptake. But I am underway. This is what I did so far. - DLed and installed Audacity and converted 5 .mp3 files to .ogg. (This program will not convert mp4 to .ogg properly) - Created folder "My Music Mod" in the right place (in Mods Diplomacy 1.011, next to Sins Optimization); created subfolder GameInfo and created Subfolder Sound; but the 5 .ogg files into Sound.
Elemental plays like its space-based cousin GC2. Each piece of fertile land or important resource is like a planet. You must build a city there. Everything else is empty space, mere filling. Even if some bits of that space read "hills" or "forests", it matters little to your empire. If you control 50 or 50000 of those tiles, it matters little. This makes "Zone of Control" even less important. That's what I miss most about terrain in Elemental. Not that it doesn't look pretty at times;
WOW thank you so much for these fantastic and fantastically quick replies!! THank you thank you thank you Since I will not get a chance to attempt to get my hands dirty with this until tomorrow, I would like to take the opportunity to ask just some questions based off these posts before I start. Let me say that I printed this out and read it a couple of times, and am still not entirely sure on all points; I'm still kind of afraid that I will screw something up and break the game. So h
I'm pretty sure that I understand the principle of a diplomatic victory: IIUC, One needs to earn 300 diplo-points before anyone else does. That's at least what I can gather from the f11 screen in my games. I'm not sure I understand the fine print however, and would like to see if I get it right. Maybe this would help other people, because in searching these forums for answers, I came across many posts from people who seem confused. - You earn diplomatic points by performing missions f
Hello all. I have never modded anything before in any game; I'm a bit of a computer idiot and things like code or XML is incomprehensible to me. Changing those hidden-by-default files makes me nervous. I am afraid I would break the game. Nevertheless, I was wondering if I would give modding a try, because I like this game so much and I basically just want to change two things. I have no idea if that is even possible. I hoped to be able to ask here and see what you smart people say.
Ah ok thanks. I thought that its large range and cheap cost of the ability usage would make it just as good (I think the subjugator's ability cost is 30 with a quick cooldown (forget what), and the subverter has a much higher cost and longer cooldown; I thought the ability was single-target only, didnt realize it was AoE!!). Because the wording in game is kind of hard for me to understand, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what pervasive economy does exactly. Does it give you mone
I mean with this:
Make city founding cost essence. Make Pioneers or whatever you want to call them require imbuing with essence (kind of like buildable heroes).
that I am not saying that only Sovereigns should found every city, but that (for example) Pioneers can found cities, but that Pioneers should have some sort of strategic risk/cost to them, such as (as in Brad's original idea) Essence, which could be done much like imbuing a Hero wit
Thank you, understand now.
ARGH: To reiterate once again: Please tell me what I am not understanding: I can see enemy mines in a gravity well. I CANNOT target these. I can see them, but cannot shoot them. I believe they are TEC mines (they have TEC players color). Is my problem clear?
What ever happened to Brad's original idea that we saw in the very first alpha versions? Remember?: Only sovereigns could found cities (or at least the first city), and that COST ESSENCE. I kind of liked that. I particularly liked the idea of a tradeoff: there is a strategic CHOICE that the player must make, and that was supposed to be supported by having varying plausible ways of achieving dominance (Brad hinted that he wanted to make it possible to win without ever founding a city). <p
Favorable review from worthplaying here .
Thanks -- but how WOULD I use ressurection if I had to? Granted it might not be a great ability, but now I have a level 10 mothership and have this ability. I'm not sure how to use it. What do I target, and when? I was also wondering about how switching the AI-difficulty works between saving and loading -- if I start on "normal", switch to "hard" 10 minutes later, then to "cruel" for 5 minutes, and then back to "normal", will my AI opponents vary their strength in those times accordin
Um, sorry, obviously I am not understanding something. None of my units can target these mines. Again: They are flagged as "invulnerable" and "phased out". The gravity wells I conquer are still full of them, and when there is nothing left in the gravity well belonging to my enemy (I chased him out, killed all ships and all structures), his mines are still there, I can see them, but I cannot shoot them, neither with my ships nor my defensive structures I subsequently build. The only way they s
