Parked my woulded sovereign with 4/18 HP in a city, checked after few turns, still 4HP. Popped him out, voila - 15/18 HP. It's quite reproducible.

This is proof people are going mad waiting for the game to be fixed. It was to be expected.
Elemental is not that bad here, In Shogun 2, the Oda clan ALWAYS dies... on turn 2 :-(
I sign up. It's just what I've been waiting for, I love the lore of the game tremendously, but I have never delved into the actual strategies to raise above the newbie level. I have enough time for this. Question - if any player surrenders, is he replaced by AI? What will be the frequency of moves? I propose one move per day.
I agree with the original poster. Participation-based XP does not make any sense. How much experience you can get from watching your colleagues beating someone up, standing in the back rank? Probably same amount as watching a boxing match in TV - none at all. Those who deal the blows and block the attacks should get the experience. Wesnoth does it well, for example - for a combat round, 1XP, for killing an opponent, 8*Level of the slain foe.
Also, please note that people expressing their disappointment with the game are mostly very polite and civil here, why the rabid fanbois are... not (Lord Xia comes to mind).
I would like all the people who urge others to go away, to go away... err... Seriously though, the fanboism here is more and more rabid, with each month passing, and with the original premise "it will all be fixed in the next patch". We waited for a patch, now we wait for a datadisk. All depends on whether you belong to the "blind faith" camp, or the "sobering up" camp. However, I think that every single buyer of the game is perfectly entitled to express his/her opinion about
There are lessons to be learned: 1) Install OS yourself. Before doing so, dd zeroes over everything. 2) Use only open source OS that can be scrutinized by peer review for serious thing (work, banking, etc). Use Windows partitions only for gaming and browsing, but for nothing else.
Dwarf fortress, AI wars, Tropico 3 AbsPow, Perihelion
I would vote for AI wars.
I never have any experience with OS/2 (besides translating documentation to the Warp server some 15 years ago), but I am happy with Linux distros and FreeBSD today.
Excellent entries, yes, Freespace, how could I forget As an avid miniature painter (Space Hulk), I am also looking forward to 40k: Space Marine Lord of magic - damn, I have to try this one. Could not run it under Win7. Also, I forgot - ANACHRONOX!!! ... and Wizardry 7,8 ... and Black Crypt!
Dominions 3 - huge scale, insane depth, fantastic synergy between magic, armies and artifacts. Rich, wonderful lore. AI wars - the game has a true AI, also the asymmetric game design is both bold and innovative Minecraft - I got bored by it, but Notch sure showed those corporate drones a thing about game design Dwarf fortress - a true simulation, mind-boggling scale, maybe most ambitious game of all times Tangle in the Web - interactive fiction from Andrew
I want spells like in Dominions 3 Eternal Darkness - the whole world is covered in total darknes,, everyone is penalized for attack and defense except blind creatures and those with other means of seeing Fire arrows - All missiles are ignited, adding AP fire damage on impact Astral duel - casters' minds clash in an invisible duel, the loser becomes insane Horror mark - the target has increased chance of being attacked by terrifying beings from other dimensi
I have not lost faith in Stardock - they are still quite frank and honest, or at least they try to be, and they gave me Sins and Galciv2 to enjoy. However, I have lost faith in Elemental completely, since it is destined to remain rather bland and boring game with many strange design decisions. The hopes now lie in Fallen Enchantress, since that's the project that will attempt to create what Elemental should have been in the first place. Elemental is now a buried project in my opinion - an
I strongly disagree with two parts of kenata's reply: 1) All species must grow - that is simply not true. There are cultures that existed for thousands of years without any growth (like Amazonian indians). There are species in nature with steady populations. You might want to read this article: http://www.energybulletin.net/node/3845 On the contrary, our current economic paradigm of growth resembles cancer so mu
http://www.theoildrum.com/node/7767 We took for granted that Middle Eastern countries ship their oil for a colored paper notes without asking much questions. But what if they decide to keep it and build their own economies?
http://www.liveoilprices.co.uk/oil/oil_prices/04/2011/wti-oil-trading-over-111-imf-joins-the-peak-oilers-party.html According to recent IMF report, they admit that oil has peaked globally. Since major oilfields (including those in Saudi Arabia) are in decline, no one can see these lossed replaced in any way short-time. Short-time, we are talk
Lord Xia, I think the original poster was very civil about his complaints. He uses polite language to express his disappointment towards a product he put his money and hopes in. There is a dose of hostility towards Stardock, but I think it's a well mannered hostility that he is altogether entitled to. On the other hand, your response beginning "What a load of horseshit" is several levels below his post. It cannot be called polite or well mannered under any circumstance
I like Impulse, because unlike Steam and Gamersgate, they don't use the stupid formula 1Euro = 1USD. I hope Gamestop will let us play our games we bought.
To cool down the OP apparent fanboism a bit. I tried it, and I was not much impressed, specifically: 1) The AI is only made to look good, but is not really much batter. CAI is not better at planning or recruiting, so it is helped by conjuring whole armies out of thin air (confirmed). BAI still sucks at sieges. 2) Battles are unrealistically fast, archers are overpowered. Unlike in previous titles where arrows flied according to laws of physics, arrows in S2 are
I don't understand. If the oilprice rise then every link in the chain that uses oil and the endconsumer has to pay more, but how does that affect the warehouse worker? The owner of the warehouse will simply charege the next guy in the chain (retail) more. .
The effect translated into the economy as "stagflation". The economic activity plunges, because people have less purchasing power due to the higher l
I believe the impact will be much bigger, worse, and most importantly, faster. First of all, the cost of oil projects into many areas of our lives - it increases cost of transport, food (since fertilizers and machinery is fossil fuel dependent, plus biofuels compete for arable land), healthcare (plastics and medicines), and it also increased costs of globalized networks - distance costs more and more money. That said, the impact is far greater on poorer people - after paying f
From my point of view, you can perceive it as finished, because it's fairly stable (for me), it's playable, and I really like its artistic style. However, it tries to do many things at once and IMO fails at most of them. - It fails providing interesting system of spells - Dominions 3 IMO succeeds here much, much better with really wonderful synergy. Even the old MoM offers much more varied and interesting. One example - in Dom3, you can cast a globa
If you want to be sure your communication is not "inspectable", there is a way - use encryption. That's why USA banned all cryptography tech exports some 10 years ago (until they realized how futile it is) - Uncle Sam wants to read your packets too. Better yet, if you are really paranoid, use TOR.
