I agree that linear tech trees need to go. I'd rather go with something branching that lets you focus on some things and neglect others and still be successful.

So, I was thinking while wandering through vast stretches of forest and big seemingly empty mountain ranges...how come all of the resources and goodies are on plains? Likely for ease of exploration, but honestly I would like to see resources in forests, on the ocean so ships could pick them up, in mountains so you must send a special unit type to get them or build a special improvement next to it to get it...etc. Honestly, having things like special honey only found in
As an addendum to my previous post: it'd be nice if not every empire needed the same resources in order to be successful, and that trade was necessary to use your own resources to the best of your ability. Being someone like the mongols shouldn't get you boned, just because you're on the plains and raise cattle and horses and don't have much iron. After-all, they did manage to conquer a large portion of the world and build a brief but massive empire with mostly horses and bows.
Perhaps here should be minor and major (Greater and Lesser?) Resources, or some resources that are region specific/hard to export. You could for example make a certain type of unit that has certain types of armor and certain weapons. Maybe you want their armor to be an especially strong form of steel (That requires special coal/craftsmanship) or a special kind of wood. Rather than letting an entire empire fill itself with soldiers armed and armored with rare resources, perhaps

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but so far in Beta 1A of elemental it won't let me save my game, the button to actually 'save' is greyed out, while the load button and delete button aren't.
It would be awesome if it was a feature, not a bug. There are plenty of cities divided in between, or have been historically. Constantinople, for example. Also, for cities built on water, Venice comes to mind.
I have the same bug but am on a desktop using a laser mouse...it mostly seems to happen during building placement for me, though.
I personally think that the sovereign, being just some guy wandering around, shouldn't necessarily be the impetus for a declaration of war. Scout: Hey, sire, there's some old man wandering around a few miles from our town. King: Oh really? Declare war on the closest nation!
Bump, I agree with all of this.
I think everyone seems to have this problem. I'm going to hold off on my giant dxdiag for now, though. And yes, I have it too.
It'd be nice to also have an icon in front of an item's name to show when it's equipped. As it is the 'equipped' text scrolls of my screen with some long names. Maybe each 'slot' item could have an icon to represent what is mutually exclusive with it?
Honestly I'd love a colored arrow showing where my units, as well as enemy units are planning to move. Galciv had it, after-all. Not colored, mind, but still pathing so you could intercept if needed.
It'd be nice to have some arrows or lines showing what the planned route to the X is, rather than just the x. It's a bitch to chase down giant spiders and smite them.
I agree, the game should at least warn me that I'm not researching and ask if I want to change that.
This is something I'd like to see too.
I had the same problem. I had 4 spies on the Yor, and then they were wiped out by the Thalans, and I lost my spies, no refun, no passing go. :(
The development of the world economy will in the distant future make the current State System lose a large amount of power as technological innovation and economic development instead shift into the hands of massive corporations that are able to compete with national governments and for a time will (and are) necessary for these national governments to function efficiently. In time, these corporations will dominate as independent units, and the proliferation of information technology and interna
Technically, this is not a "Trojan Horse" Strategy. A Trojan Horse would be if the disk you gave them with the tech on it was filled with tiny men.
When playing as the Terran's, which I often am, I tend to name ships I mass produce nothing. I leave them with factory default names. Now, flagships, unique ships, huge ships that cost a ton to make, and ships with enough exp to put them ahead of the pack, as well as lucky rangers, all get names. Me, I choose mythological names. Mostly biblical and Greek. Morpheus, Poseidon, Goliath, etc. It's alot cooler to see 'Goliath has defeated Torian Fleet' than 'Lucky Ranger 2009 has de
Black hole event. A black hole appears somewhere in the galaxy, and it has a radius of 5x5 parsecs. Anything within this parsec is destroyed. Yeah even planets are erased from this cosmos, but stars are not. Each turn it moves off in a random direction until it either dissipates or moves off the map edge. This could really shake up the game, as ethics come into play. Do you spend alot of money trying to rescue your people in ivacuation ships, or just leav
Peace treaties. All the time you'll be slaughtering an AI player and the AI on the trade screen will be begging for peace; but when you offer Peace Treaty for Peace Treaty, he won't take it. At least, not until you throw in half your Trade Goods--and that's when you're WINNING THE WAR. I've run into the same thing more than once, and it's somewhat frustrating. They offer you something of theirs that you d
I'd really love if Standard Gal-Civ had techs with multiple pre-reqs, and several either/or techs, incldusing several that decide the basics of your society/civ at the beginning of the game. This is maybe a rather grand analogy, but what if your tech for starbases, starships, and building tech had three branches. Mechanical (Earth), Biological (Dread Lords) or Energy (other). Mechanical would be able to buy and have much higher production as well as being able to sell ships and
You're just paranoid. Firstly, you must have added the Canadian flag with an addon pack, as I don't think it's in the files originally. Secondly, the Jagged Edge are a bit buggy, as they seem to use a random flag every time they show up in my game. It even goes so far as that the flag they use is their diplomacy screen in my games. Short answer: It's random.
It's pretty damn lame that you can't spy on minors. They can send and receive trade routes and trade tech. Hell, I've even seen one become a military superpower somehow and be very threatening to me, and still I can't manage to spy on them. Pretty sucky for an espionage based race.
