It would be nice to have some sort of hit percentage where a weapon can miss a fast ship.
Geez come on guys back to basics here, it was a reasonable idea, it is just a game. Getting too far into conceptual theory on weapon systems that have not even been conceptualised yet, let alone have the basis of practical science, is getting a bit wacky. Dilbert would have a field day ;) Who'd be a dev ..... Regards Zy

I'd love someone to explain to me why there is this fuss all the time over *friggin* consoles V PCs ?? Honestly, genuinely, who cares? If it works for you - PC or Console - great, away you go and have fun. Either one doesnt run your favorite game? Well, frankly, *life's a bitch then you die*. Never mind WW3 almost breaking out - we always seem to skip that and go to a guaranteed Armageddon WW4. Even the *ultimate* male virility symbol, The Car, doesnt get this heated
As usual the 'bad' in the review is no multi-player
Arguably a majority of their "members" are Multi-Players, hence its always an "expected" comment to make about any game, however tired and repetitive it is - and wow, is that one repetitive ...... its part of their standard formula for making a review. Its so knee jerk now, that it detracts from the objectivity of their reviews of any game. Regards Zy

From an earlier post of mine on this thread:
Therefore wherever you are in the world, in whatever political system, its always very healthy to have a wary look at sensationalist or "popularist" stories. They are often there to increase circulation therefore advertising revenue(Democracies), or there as a vehicle to manipulate opinions (Autocracies)
I smell some manipulation going on. However, be clear on my personal views on that clown:
I think
This is why you'll see tempers rise from time to time....everyones very passonate about what we do.
Hang in there BoogieBac ;) I've always found it remarkable - and a massive defacto Vote of Confidence in the Stardock Team - the lack of super-critical comment on the Forum re GC2. Those that are happy with a game (any game) rarely bother to come into the respective Game Forum specially to say so. Nature of the beast. Therefore critical comment always seems mor
Modern motherboards have a built in thermal cut out/regulator that either closes down the cpu or drastically throttles it until the temperature reaches manageable levels in the event temperatures reach dangerous levels. It should not be relied upon as a routine measure as long term issues can still occur (shortening Board life), but it is an effective "measure of last resort". Its enough to keep you on the good side of life until you track down the specific setting for your motherboa
I'd personally say it's farfetched to say it'll stop it, since software has to be written to take advantage of it, and software can and will be cracked. Hardware wise, well, theres nothing a mod chip can't fix. Just look at consoles to see how easy it is to play burned software.
There is little doubt it can be done in such a way that there would be no chance of "cracking" it. What is publicly available is mere "boys toys" compared to what can be done to secure software.
You had to make do with the game as is or go outside and play ball instead.
More than one of my games back then supplied on a 640Kb floppy disk ended up as a coffee mat, or more usually a wonderful "poor man's Frizbee" Imagine todays 300mb+ monster games - 470 "Frizbee Floppys" - geez the local Park would have been knee deep in the damn things  Back then my hard disk was a humungous 10mb - cant fit most game's pdf manual on that these days!
The problem when you "raise the bar" on standards is that the new level becomes "the norm". Stardock have a deservedly very high reputation for updates etc, and always give amazing value for money in the products. With most games houses you'd be lucky to get an update at all, and then reluctantly after months of ranting by the whole fanbase. I have no doubts that this one was slower than they would have liked, however they were very open about what was happening and thats fair enough
Can you name your game saves?
Yes you can. You will need to go directly into the Directory: C:\Documents and Settings\"Your Name"\My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor There you will see a number of " .sav " files - "AutoSave.sav" for example. Whatever name you give the file before the .sav extention will show up in the Load/Save screen. So copy an existing .sav file, rename it to what you want (.sav as an extension is mandatory), and pu
Go into "Options" on the opening menu screen, look for the Video Tab, then look top left. You will see a video resolution drop down box. 1280x720 doesnt show up in mine on the list, so if you need that, select "Custom Resolution" on the drop down box. The game is best played configured for the same resolution as the underlying desktop screen, you can get some issues at times when they are different - not always, but it does happen from time to time. If that doesnt work, pos
Now, some people seem to paint these issues as major deal breakers. Others dont seem to mind as much. Should I just hold off until the next patch? Are these big enough issues to really impact my ability to enjoy the game?
It is an amazing game, dont hesitate, go for it. There is one game breaker at present - the infamous "Tech Bug" (which turned out to be a balancing issue with a configuration algorithm after some changes they made to change a particular behavior)
You used the phrase "lowest setting" - my assumption is you are on "CakeWalk". At that level the AI is crippled to a very large degree. Its there so you can get into the mechanics of the game without getting run over at a very early stage. At CakeWalk the AI dribbles at the mouth and says Ga-Ga, but thats about it, it cant do much else. If you have the game mechanics (as opposed to tactics - you'll always be evolving the latter) nailed, I would ramp up the difficulty level a couple o
How is this not a perfect solution?
Its a boring solution, cant craft a conspiracy theory  For the most part, those yelling really hard, as opposed to "nice to have" tend to also yell about "saving the Planet". Yet they shoot for a box thats around a hundred times the volume of its content, a manual that is out of date as soon as its printed, and certainly will be after the usual updates are released. I'll stick to download, cheaper and gives mor
Like most people I've been through good times and bad - some really bad. Things turned out fairly good in the end though, many have worse. There was a stage earlier in life I got caught up in the whole "finger pointing thing" and blame the world and his wife for some issues. Then I woke to the Main Event that I had been blind to for a while. My Wife. She has always been, and remains, so incredibly sanquine about life and its termoils. She has been a quiet and steady rock to me, as I w
One for the Pot. Use your Political Capital as a "Culture Bomb". Particularly effective after just taking a fairly developed Minor Race as they will have a high(ish) IP by then anyway. Add the Political capital to it (a cash purchase or partial purchase after a few turns is not that expensive), and it usually shatters the influence of the surrounding AI into vapour (at the very least gives the AI a big culture problem, triggering some planet flips not too soon afterwards. AI Mines are
In my last game as Terrans, with their incredible diplomatic bonus, I managed to purchase five or six different minor civ homeworlds, replete with tech capital, economic capital and other goodies.
And put that together with the previous one of selling them Trade1 etc in the first place, its a wonderful self feeding circle - definitely going on my list, and I'm onto a new game tonight, so I'll try those - Love It  Regards Zy
What I would do is this. Give the poor how steal jobs a labors, the kleptomaniac should be put into a instatuion, the drunk and the drugy need to be put into rehab, and the proffesnonial should be denied from learning how to steal better. Gangs should be broken up so they cant work to gether. Gangs work because they are a team, break up that team and they become less efective.
Doubtless we could all write a book on the detail of that - rights and wrongs etc. However I ag
Its easy to give them all the same punisments, but how fare is that?
Precisely my point. Add to that, the fact that there is little point going down a punishment only route - you just breed a more determined criminal with a recent Honors degree in Criminology (the wrong sort of criminology ..... ) and they constantly reoffend.
That could just be because most of the people in the middle ages were poor
I agree, its most likely, and illustrates the whole point. Crime is motivated by many scenarios, a large number are independent of "good practices" in being a "model citizen". A "Hang em All" approach does not address that, never will, the motivation and drivers for committing the crime are wholely independent of the thoughts on consequencies. Its the thought process we have to
