(Megaevents changing the balance of power UTTERLY, happened more than once in 13 of the 15 games ive played so far)
Well expressed, thats exactly how I feel about it ..... but hadnt realised it in a funny sort of way. I hate the Mega events because I know damn well several will popup each game and wreck hours/weeks of hard work on gigantic/immense maps. I therefore have them turned off, which is a shame as its a sledgehammer to crack a nut. An option to affect
If Stardock compresses them all into one fairly presentable program, that is a major plus.
I am soooo with you on this one, and its what Stardock are trying to do. Its the whole basis of the upcoming Genre of "Digital Platforms", a Port that can be used to deliver any multi-media content from any vendor to any user. Its implications for on-line activities are as huge as the impact of the Web Page and HTML code - not least the one that "wins" gets lots of members and pote
How do I tell when my economy is ready for me to expand to other planets?
Thats a huge one - and its at the heart of how to play GalCiv. There's no easy way to explain it - its like trying to explain the taste of Strawberries  Each player has their own style of play, and there are as many "Paths to Sweetness and Light" as there are players explaining the "True Way" in terms of Tactics to get there. At the end of the day, the game is all about the economy,
Well Done Bioshock - the only time EA will follow suit is when the year on year balance sheets hit negative growth Regards Zy
Try that approach in the game with Leasing everything and see what happens ....
Personally, I'm not a leasing fan Regards Zy
Anyone still scratching their heads over this - try looking at it this way. This is going to sound like "Mum & Dad" in full flow re "lesson of life No4 - Money". Remember those lectures? I know, its embarrassing, I'm giving those lectures to my kids now . Please dont take it that way, its an analogy to try and get over the right mindset. Throughout the game you cant do anything unless you can pay for it - there's no Galactic Credit Card, its cash on delivery! Bare with this, I'm
If you have refreshed the xml data, try changing the server. Tools - settings - Internet - go to the top drop down box and select the other server, there's two, change it to the other one - click ok at the bottom. Then refresh xml data again. Sometimes changing server you are using will sort it out. It is there, they put it up yesterday. Regards Zy
One of a number of famous quotes attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte, which occurred when an individual was granted time to explain to him a new capability "that could transform your Empire". He listened to the explanation then, very irritated, he firmly stated: "So, you are going to make a ship sail against the wind, by lighting a bonfire UNDER HER DECK??? I have no time for such nonsense - Get Out!!" Think about it .... Regards Zy
The 1.95 update is available under Stardock Central, although I had already done it (about 20 mins ago) via Impulse which beavered away without any dramas. It was quick, about 5 mins for an Impulse Update, a Political Machine Update and the TA 1.95 update. Regards Zy
They have made it available under Stardock Central as well as Impulse. Regards Zy
Just did the updates over the last 10 mins via Impulse Opened Impulse (at this point TA shown as not installed) - Clicked on update for Political Machine, it restarted. - On restart it detected an update to Impulse. - After update it loaded Political Machine update - By now TA showing as update available. - TA update installed fine, opened up fine. Whatever all the updates were, they all installed fine - painless - just needed a short wait between
The challenge is IN your mind(s) and how you can perpetually handle that much, in fact.
Astute comment - and very true about many things in life. A confident positive outlook is an essential one to foster and nuture to gain better opportunities out of life, let alone TA. Being negative as a permanent attitude in general, is the easy route, doesnt take much, certainly not brains, and gains even less. Regards Zy
Somehow I fear that my serial numbers will be lost or my game account somehow corrupted. And, if there turns out to be any more bugs, then I will have to reinstall it.
I hear you totally and empathise. Another analogy (Alert: I'm in wax lyrical mode tonight  ). When the whole genre of Web Host/ Personal WebSpace was first being postulated - geez was it THAT long ago - *scrabbles for me Will* - my reaction was: *hands off my private data, I'l
anology/analogy - dang I really do miss that edit button
Wizard1956 hit it on the head from where I sit. Platforms such as this are designed at a Strategic level - not for today only, else the investment put into it never gets re-couped. Its not - as such - needs of "the now" that drives the design and background OEM type facilities (there's obvious limits to that statement in some areas of it), its designing to a prediction as to what the Market needs or wants on a circa 2-5 year view. Early adopters always get the early mar
erm the free version does not have DRM on it. And you can use the trial version without logging into EA servers.
Frankly I no longer care, my EA cheque book slammed shut long ago. Its going to take a lot to prise it open, which is a bummer, because not all their games are blow-outs by any measure. I just cant get myself to trust them any more, its as simple as that. I teach my Clients "The Customer is not King, Understanding them is" EA dont have Custom
I've had Vista on my laptop for about a year, no real hassles. Updated to SP1 fairly sharpish after its release, updated fine, no subsequent hassles. If its part of a small office network environment of whatever size, I'd hold off for a while until more is known about Windows7. If its a medium to large network environment, dont touch, it stay XP, upgrade costs are too high in view of the relative imminence of Windows7. If its a home setup, go for it - you might get some drive
I suggest you up the difficulty level to "Painfull" (or probably "Crippling" from your description of your experiences to date.) At Crippling you start to "earn your money", and the game is far less forgiving of inefficient gamer strategies. The top three levels you will really get into hassles, but do a few Crippling ones first. Not ignoring the rest of your list, its just that until you have played at a level commensurate with your current ability, its hard to comment meaningfully,
Holy crap, you guys pay the equivelent of 90 USD for console games? That is robbery.
Its revenue generation, robbery by another name. Console companies know full well that whatever the mass market says, it will buy on price for something that is put forward as part of the "grass is greener over the hill" syndrome. In the same way that electronic goods are "cheap" in a relative sense and attract near useless warranties as add ons (but in fact the warranties are the main r
One thing I'd like to know is how to remove the toolbar Impulse places at the bottom of my screen (and pops up whenever my cursor wanders down there).
The toolbar that pops up, does it have a blue or black/grey background? What are the contents of the toolbar? Regards Zy
I actually just found the GalCiv2 Gold demo and tried it out.... WOW! That was fun! My son and I both screamed when the demo time ran out too... a VERY good sign.
Yet another human being consigned to a life of dingy light bulbs and flickering screens as the Galactic inferno penetrates the vacant staring bloodshot eyes of the latest fanatic gibbering "just-one-more-turn" at the mercy of the latest incarnation of GC2 - Twighlight of the Arnor.... devorce lawyers
Sales are down, so people must be pirating it instead of buying it. We need harsher and more powerful DRM, stat!
Nice point - I would not put it past them! Its also classed as a Business Expense, so in effect when it works through the balance sheet its, in a practical sense, tax deductible. Talk about a double wammy in terms of paying for the cost of DRM ..... Regards Zy
If you lean towards building things (I am that way too), go for GC2. If your mindset Leans towards shoot em up, go for Sins. There are substantial elements of both in either game, dont be mislead by the analogy, but its a practical crude rule of thumb. I once swore, many moons ago, that I would never touch "another damn RTS" ever again. I loathed them. Stardock and Ironclad got a reluctant convert to the Sins concepts from me, with the engaging TBS/RTS mix. I still prefer pure TBS
Reply 2 - nice one Hankers - love it - had me in stitches  I think the saving grace will be Brad, he's an astute character re the Internet, and I am sure he'll curb the clear nightmare in that one to manageable levels (Please God  ). Regards Zy
