The game balance was changed for TA, and an increasing cost had been applied to Techs later in the game. Long Story ;) Upshot was the result you experienced. For now they have rolled back that tweek, make sure you are using V1.95, download from Impulse or SDC, and you will not get the draconian increases, it has been reverted to the old status Quo. They are still addressing the Tech cost balance, but for now have reversed the changes connected to Tech costs to back to what it was.<b

No - thats downgrading, as you pointed out its a lower number. Ignore any lower numbers that show up. They do for a while, I assume - assumption only, I dont know fact - its a way of giving you an easy roll back to the previous one in event of an issue. The latter is just a guess tho... Ignore lower numbered version. Regards Zy
Good article elias001 ! That article presents what is an unpopular view, and many interpret it as supporting or "glamorising crackers". It is in fact an intelligent, well written article on the problem. Be absolutely clear - Crystal Clear - give me an anti-cracker ray-gun, and I will fire it without hesitation at any Cracker in range without warning. To a Hacker, I will probably add "stop or I fire", as there is a world of difference between a Hacker and a Cracker. Even tha
I have no idea of the circumstances of OPs problem as I dont frequent those kinds of on line Sites, so I wont comment on the validity or otherwise of the circumstance and outcome on this particular event. As a statement of general principles however, Well Said. Those kinds of games are driven by revenue flow not standards, and as long as the gamer keeps turning up and paying their dosh, the owners could care less - whatever their local spin doctor puts out. I dont come on line to be surrounded
Dual Core / clock speed They have hit a wall on practical cpu speed re heating issues, so they had no choice but to go down a multi core route to try and keep up overall processing speed. It is cheaper by far to provide a second core on silicon, than the investment currently needed to overcome a virtually impossible conundrum re physical limitations on increasing single core clock speed, due to heating effects. Multi Core is though, a known dead end for consumer hardware. On
There is no "secret" to making an immortal game, it is in fact very easy. You have to not just "Like", but "Love" the Vision, the Concept, the Game. Finding the people prepared to dedicate themselves to that (The Stardock Team) - and find a suitable Leader - not manager - Leader (Brad) to come up to their aspirations and demands is the very hard part. For me, amidst all the reviews, articles, competition to sound more profound than the last, yacking about - iconic - imm
Neurologists have put forward many theories as to why that myth exists. The best one I have come a cross is that Einstein quipped "The average person typically only use 10% of their brains". Its claimed that the popular press took this as absolute fact, reporting that Humans only ever utilised 10% of their brains, whereas in fact Einstein was being facetious  That in itself may only be a myth, but it raised a chuckle in me ;) Regards Zy

I am a Leona Lewis fan, an incredible singer of stunning quality. Tonight I had a look at one of her fan sites, there was a post there about a relatively new music download Site (all genres) http://www.we7.com , there was lots of attention from the fanbase as she got paid for each download or streaming. The Site initially was downloading to UK addys only, however Global addys were being worked on, dont know the latest, worth checking that out i
If you dont already have it Go here [link="https://www.galciv2.com/Downloads.aspx"]SDC Download[/link], and download SDC, then "follow your nose" its easy to use. It does have its quirks like any piece of software, and if you hit an issue, post - its been around for a long time so its a solid mature piece of software - most SDC issues are more "fingers & thumbs" with something new than anything else. If you already have it, and 1.95 is not visible, open up Tools - Settings - Internet
One I put on another thread, but its more appropriate here. Use Minor Races as a free tech source. They tend to go for non yellows, and in the main go for trade and military. Whilst keeping some low value ships around as tokens to ward off crys of "pay me dosh", concentrate on yellows etc, not military, initially, and get a the invasion techs / Ti(thingy)Quan whatever its called.... for soldier bonus. Get good diplomatic techs to have a better level than the minors (more efficient t
Restaurant drastically enhances your area of influence, extending your "boundary". Over time it is very powerful pushing out your influence boundary by an order of magnitude. Its importance is not in its immediate effect after getting it, its the cumulative effect it has on each turns infuence bonus. - If your border is pushed out further you have a greater reach for things like minors, upgrade costs (always cheaper if you upgrade inside your own influence area) etc - More po
Your going to hate this answer ..... It depends on what I feel like .... its instinct more than anything. I play Gigantic / Immense, and specialise worlds into dedicated Eco/Tech/Production worlds, each of the three categories being built on a ratio of around one specialisation for four of the other specialisations. The early ones like microrepair(Thingy - whatever its called) and Xanthium Hulls, the one's I know that the AI is going to have a go at - then I'll use up a Tile o
To quote an extreme - you can argue that on Tiny maps, there maybe little choice as you could wait sometime for another suitable Planet. I usually play Gigantic/Immense, so a suitable one will invariably turn up without much of a wait, so I usually wait for a high PQ planet to be available circa PQ18+ (or circa PQ14+ that is likely to turn into much bigger after tile techs are done. I usually stay away from the Homeworld with the eco capital as it ties me down, and invariably I

Grateful thanks for that, I never realised China had a Constitution, of any nature. To a degree its content is not relevant - initially. Its importance lay in the fact that it exists, and therefore is able - at some point in time - to be challenged. It seems from what you are saying, the latter process has started, albeit with some difficulty, but it has started ..... I believe in the concept that the "glass is half full", not "the glass is half empty"
Does this mean that sudd
We are Poles apart on this, and always will be. The game mechanics, especially the AI is programmed to meet an agreed concept for the game, true of any game not just GalCiv. Its impossible to write software to cater for all and any eventuality. You'd never stop.
how did this go from politics to green stuff
Politics is "The Art of the Achievable" Green Stuff is "The Art of the Unachievable" The common ground is both spend other peoples money, without being held accountable for a dime of it in any meaningful way, ending up with hugely fanciful "solutions" that enhance reputations but never solve the issues. In Real Life, some issues are simply unsolvable, and whilst we should always strive for solutions t
thanks everybody! just needed some input..before i installed update, guess i read to many bad review's
You were very wise to check, regretably many dont bother to do any kind of background read on this stuff, and wonder why the world falls apart. Until you read the bad ones, you dont know which are the good ones. Until you ask questions you dont come across the good gems from people, like the one from Coelocanth. Good luck with the install, I'm sure it will go f
Maybe being able to out-right purchase ships and such is wrong; maybe it should simply be a switch on production, increasing it by 3x for a 4x cost increase.
Far from boring, in my mind.
Mod away I have no issue at all - its all good stuff. My only personal thing about it is I see little point modding a game that causes such a massive imbalance that the end result is you cant even avoid winning, let alone have the risk of losing (if thats an individual's desired outcome). Its not the end of the world, thats the whole point of moddable games as you indicated, having a bit of fun achieving what an individual wants to a
Where are those files located? I think I'll jack with them a little.
Such evil thoughts :) Look under the Twighlight subdirectires in the "Program files - Stardock" part of the disk. You'll see a multitude of them - all over the place. Do NOT mod an inplace one, if you want to mod one, make a copy, do the changes, then put the altered one into the "Mods" folder, and most important leaving the original in place. Then check mark "use mods" in the
