With that list of games owned, look at it from the opposite angle, with whats left, what IS better than GalCiv. In terms of dedication of the dev team - its almost a labour of love, not a game - I would find it hard to believe they could be bettered in that respect. As always its a personal preference on features and characteristics that decide short lists. I am certain though, if you end up with GalCiv on that list after such an initial culling, you'll find it very hard not to take

Brad Have a look at support ticket TMR-226132, and reflect on what effect that will have on the Metaverse if abused. It looks like its easy to fix in that it didnt happen before, something got missed out in latest update. Sorry to be circumspect, you'll understand when you see the ticket. Regards Zy
Our budget post 2.0 is largely based on sales at that stage.
With the reputation you have stacked up, I reckon a GalCiv III @ $39.95 upgrade, and @ $49.95 for a new user would sell well. Whether there is the space and capacity (current or expand the Team) for that only you will know - and clearly at the moment people need a break from developing it to refresh the brain. However at a "basics" level, I believe you will only have to crank up a minor marketing ef

"Yes Sir, you need to drive by with your new Ford Widget every ten days, to enable our super free marketi...... um I mean .... theft prevention system". Just like loyalty cards in supermarkets (loyalty card is shorthand for "enable our automatic targeted marketing system"). No thanks. I will not be driven down this road whatever the excuse. I'm not interested in an esoteric pirate debate - I am an honest comsumer who pays for what I use. They can shove this up their digital backside.

Back to OP's question ... The war cost is only a fraction of US GDP - for fiscal year 2009 US GDP will be either side of $14,000 Billion, the Iraq Budget 2009 is $200 Billion. Even US National debt is "only" $9,000 Billion - equates to a private citizen whose all up total debt is 7 months of their annual wage. The US has a massive economy, Iraq in fiscal terms is a mild draw down, bit like a car going over a speed bump, hardly notice it. Even set against US government spending 2009,
I noticed this the other day, when you have the options set so that you are prompted if you want to build a starbase over a galactic resource the prompt appears twice (you accept the first time, then the prompt will reappear for a second time and after you accept there its fine).
Yup same here - not a drama, but might indicate other things lurking Regards Zy

And dont limit yourself to just one tech with Minor races. As usually they only have one planet, go in and trade your techs for theirs, including all the cash they have. Then hit them with your prepositioned forces in the same turn. Can be very lucrative. Its a "dog eat dog" Galaxy  Regards Zy

Get used to it - all software Companies are rampaging into online only distribution as fast as they practically can, now that broadband links are so widespread. Easier for some than others due to their customer base and base product. Will always be a few that dont of course, but they will be rare in 5yrs+ time. The distribution cost savings are massive, and far outweigh any short term loss of shelf buying from non broadband users. In a few years we will all be moaning that it took "ov
I saw other messages on this topic which requires to download something to enable an update of DA but the link in these mails does not seems to work, it directs you to another website and then I don't know what to do more....
Have you been to SDC and updated via that? Like Bodyless, I have not experienced that one either - so its either a specific bug in certain (not general) circumstances, or its been dealt with via an SDC update. Then again - zoooork s

Great! I also found it a little strange, leaving planets to just grow population and no production initially. Then it sunk into the brain that there was no rush, the bad guys are expanding as well, so as long as I had a few low value defence ships around, they left me alone in the early stages. I have had a go at a "Year 1" win, and made it a couple of times thanks to the techniques I have seen posted from others - but I still much prefer the "longer" game. This is going to sound daft

Dont ever hesitate to ask questions, I'm still learning after a couple of years at this game. People genuinely help each other on this Site, not silly one upmanship. Its a hugely deep game, and many many many ways to play it. No such thing as a "newb" question here, only a quest for information ;) Ask questions, relax, and enjoy the Game! Regards Zy

100% agree - Economy rules (and Morale does effect economy as in real life). Like anything, no one size fits all. Its a Balanced game, which means its built to react to your strategy. Spend too much, you go broke. Take too much time and effort building an economy, and the Bad Guys roll over you. Concentrate on social spending tech bombs out etc etc - just like real life, the approach has to be balanced. If however you get the economy wrong to start with its real hard to learn the rest as y

Can you describe in more detail how you are loosing? Going broke? Slow to build a military? Got overwhelmed in the short term before a chance to build up? Poor technology compared to the others? You say you were on the easiest setting and loosing - do you mean "CakeWalk" level? Knowing the level you were on also helps suggestions as it indicates your opponents abilities. Its probable you were concentrating on just one aspect of the game (ie colonising planets, building t

If I were you - if you have not done so already - I would Uninstall via SDC, then go to My Documents and get rid of the TA directory in My Games, redownload via SDC, and install. Installs can go bad, files get corrupted etc- it happens. If there is a corrupt file in there, no manner of chasing around will fix it, a second install run will at least verify your ok to that point. Fault finding when in fact there is a corrupt file or external system driver issue, is not a happy place to be. <

Back to basics ... We are talking, in the overwhelming number of cases, about software that in all practical intents and purposes has a limited shelf life. In that most software will be overtaken by the next "latest and greatest", and the old stuff is left for dust. I've still got old software going back years in dusty holes around the house. Its not high value in the great scheme of things, and when I've become tired of it, chances are so have others in the real world - therefore resa

Its a nutty debate perpetuated by a race to throw out the next useless statistic. There will always be "consoles", there will always be "PC's". In twenty years time there will be "??". I'm sitting hear tonight before hitting the sack, trying to think of when I posted any seriously negative comments about the whole GalCiv "thing". I guess there must have been one sometime, but I cant think of it. Seeing dev team members on the Forum in the middle of the night speaks volumes as to why ..... Then to see an update (V1.91) out so swiftly today ...... other Gaming Houses have to be blind, deaf, dumb or just plain stupid not to understand which side of their P&L their butt

And we will still be that way until another Race comes along, kicks our Butt, and we might then - just might - develop some common sense and stop that nonsense.<br
