Ahhhh - the issues and hassles of being Master of the Universe ;) One of my simple yardsticks is working out how many dents in the study wall a release created - the more dents the more I must have enjoyed it - a bad release puts the Cat's life in danger  (She will jump up on the desk late at night and watch the screen as I play, sometimes not the best move she could make, but, she's great company) Regards Zy

I hate them (Mega events) as well - loath them, there are fewer more crazy creations on this Planet. However I support their inclusion 100%, it gives depth and variety to the game to appeal to a wider audience. If you get caught with one and forgot to turn off the Mega Event option at the start config of the game, reload the last saved game you have, be it auto save or manual save. It will not reappear. Regards Zy
That is a major Marketing Gaff - someone is not thinking .... people are sick of signing on everything and anything just because they showed an interest and raised their head above the parapit. That tactic throws back to early marketing days on the Internet when - as such - it was new, different etc. People didnt mind, it was all new, few sign on's etc. Now they use it so much its a Royal Pain. Test and Measure those who did sign on to get it over the following month - I'll bet you got noth
Would you advise me buying it? The unique technology trees are very appealing, but just be honest.
The euphemism "Die for it" is overused, but it really does apply to TA. I have never seen a more comprehensive "Expansion Pack" on the market, and they are still adding to the Beta, its stunning. In the hands of a less scrupulous Publisher, the Marketing Director would be insisting on calling it GalCiv3. Sins made a huge impact on release, in my view TA will make
Cant think why I didnt see this before re European Distributor - anyone know whether or not this is still the case? If it is, I'll get one - and a good one, I have some good contacts I can use to ferret out a distributor. Hell, there maybe a culture difference US/UK, but common sense is the same either side of the Atlantic, especially where the best selling PC game of 2008 to date is concerned ..... Regards Zy
Pirating will never stop, and no one will ever stop Pirating. Whatever technology enables as "protection", eventually technology will undo. Always been that way - always will. A lot of the noise on Pirating is driven by Corporate Bonus chasers calculating 'what could be'. Almost by definition they take their eye off the ball of the game quality - a double lunacy. People who point their finger at supposed sources of grief should take a look down and see what direction most of their fi
Thanks Cari - I had not realised that was in the pipeline, looks good :) Regards Zy
I dont know how you bought it, but might be worthwhile checking against Stardock Central that you have the last version. There have been a few annoying turn freeze issues, most seem to be ironed out now. If you have the latest version, send a saved game that has the hassle to stardock support, together with the SmartException files and they can look at it. The support guys at Stardock are good, and always do their level best to get you going. Worth sending it all in if your still h
Seen, and also wierd .... At the time of the OP the Forum I Frame (if it is an I Frame) was full screen, no side bars visible. Now it is .... Doo do Doo do Doo .... we now return control of your tv set .... I'll get back to being pulverised by Brads new AI ... Regards Zy
Improved AI is good news. It moves the game ever forward to what Strategy Games are all about - thinking. I have definitely dropped a couple of levels to survive whilst my battered brain works out whats going on. Anyone tripping out on excess macho requirements should go find a FPS to vent on, they are designed to appeal to the macho urges we all get from time to time. Post Beta 5, I just put a pin in the wooden AI doll on my desk as the fleet from hell leaps all over me  <
When I access the Forums from the main site menu bar, works much quicker than the past, great stuff. On arrival at the forum, there is no quick return link to the main site home page, or at least not one that I spotted. It would be handy to have a GalCiv logo - or some such - on the top bar of each forum page formatted as a quick return link, or even just a text label saying ... GalCiv Home Page ... whatever. Without it, we are "semi-stranded". Not the end o
After hours - usually days - sometimes a couple of weeks of playing an Immense map, last thing I need is an artificial unrelated event suddenly popup and wreck it all. If it was a related event to the current game scenario, fine, war is hell as they say. SHoneT happens, deal with it. However, artificially imposed events deliberately designed to wreck days of game play does not do it for me. In the last statement I include the good events as well as the bad ones. Flipside is some peopl
People who make a life's work at pointing a finger at others for their troubles should look down and count how many fingers are pointing in what direction ..... The stentorian cry of piracy is getting boring. Of course there is piracy, it'll always happen to one degree or another however repugnant its rightly held up to be. Its not however the great omnipotent Silver Bullett to all evils, such comments lack perspective on the size of the whole games marketplace, and reflect a lack of i
A few idle thoughts on Sins from a personal perspective, been mulling over how to get the time in to learn this one properly even though I had the Betas. IGN & Gamespy came out with reviews on Sins last week, I noticed them wondering around in an idle moment. The reviews are top notch, usual couple of parsimoanious comments justifying a reviewers time, but no major criticism. IGN video review is useful for those not yet seen it on Beta. They approach "rave" reviews in common with othe
Lets not jump to conclusions, I have no doubt Stardocks position re pirating has not changed one iota. Doubtless there is a Beta related issue with the editors, and they are just being cautious for the moment. It is a Beta .... lets not set a bandwagon rolling based on assumption and suposition. Its only the end of life on Earth as we know it if you let it be so .... ;) Regards Zy
I have it on my laptop for when I am travelling as well as my home PC. The latter is XP, the laptop is Vista. Runs ok on both. I agree re graphics drivers, its essential to get vendor drivers asap with Vista until it settles down and Vista Graphics drivers have been submitted to MS by Vendors. From the discription it appears it has not installed properly. Try re downloading from Stardock Central. If its not showing in programs then it has no chance to run. It does work ok on Vista
When I had that one it also really ticked me off - then I looked more closely at the ships, they were very lightly armed and speed 1. It was a turkey shoot, but got very boring as there were literally a couple of thousand of the things. I usually play with Mega Events turned off now as I find them wholely unrealistic, and for me there needs to be an element of believeability no matter how tenuous, or the "immersion factor" disolves. Having said that, I would still support the Mega Even
The most significant thing for me was noting the reviewer's confidence rating that a product will appear in 2008 - Sins got 95% - head and shoulders above the others. Looks like the message is getting through re Stardock Games will do what it says on the box, and do it well. I have a feeling this one is being taken as a routine 2008 release by many, and I suspect they are in for a shock. I am convinced this will make a major impact in the RTS world - and the "unexpected" nature of it will gen
I agree Beta 4 economy has gone too far in that it forces you down a road that is verging on "not fun" any more. Balancing is always a nightmare as clearly many play on many different levels of difficulty, and what works at one level may well - often doesnt - at other levels. Economy has always been a roll-a-coaster depending on your experience level. One thing is certain at any level however, it must remain Fun, or the game dies. A "one size fits all" strategy to balancing economy a
It takes as long as it takes .... Too often in the game industry releases are rushed out due to commercial pressures. That usually ends in grief over the following 12 months as retro action is taken to stabalise what was in reality an early BETA, not a final build. Personally, I am sick and tired of that set of events, and I am at the stage where I will not buy any game that has bad quality predecessors and indifferent post release support from the Gaming House. No matter the hype leve
In a software sense true - bugs happen, as always, its life, no way can any software be guaranteed to run perfectly in all scenarios, never happen. However in a hardware sense you do have to be a serious clown to release software that frys hardware, simple Alpha/Beta testing resolves that. Are mistakes made at machine code level when programming bios or registers or compilers? Of course there are. However even programming at that level, for released versions to hit the streets that co
if software can't harm hardware, why do gaming rigs need so much cooling? What's the harm in letting it run hot?
Sorry my last cross posted with yours - I am not the fastest typer in the world  They need cooling in the same way that a car needs a good cooling system. The faster you run a car, the hotter it gets as it has to work harder for its living over an equivalent period of time. The cooling system needs to be good to get rid of the heat produced a
The fun part was how my machine kept trying to reboot itself over and over until I removed one stick of RAM. Now it seems to work fine, but I had no idea the game could overheat things enough to damage anything.
For software to directly, and be the sole cause of, hardware damage, it would have to be written by an incompetant idiot - and/or be written with malicious intent, even then you have to work at it to cause significant damage. Stardock certainly is not in that cat
Now thats what I call a bad day .....
Good idea - I'll go for that as well, centering would help enormously Regards Zy
