Does it happen in both windowed and full screen modes? BTW, 512 MB memory is adequate for XP, but just. I'd recommend a RAM increase to 1GB - you'll be surprised how it helps overall. Lastly, have you checked for overheating issues? Cleaned the dust out of your case recently, and applied new silicon paste to your processor heat sink? Speedfan is a freeware program that can help you check the temps - I use it all the time - I

It would be cool to have an option for the GNN news be running all the time in a ribbon at the bottom of the screen...maybe most of the time it would be garbage ...but you would get News Flashes when important things happened...for the less paranoid who don't mind the game connecting to the net every hour or so for updates it could even be set up to pull stuff from the forums like the latest post topics, or pull from a site where users make up headlin

It beats having to install a Rootkit that will destroy your system like Starfarce. Or some other DRM scheme that will not allow you to run other legitimate software you have purchased. Iif you don't want SDC, don't install it. You can still activate and download the game and updates - it just takes longer to get it set up There are many threads that tell you how - or simply email Stardock for assistance.

Hmm, This game has run almost perfectly for me - even the 1.1 beta versions. Yes, there are bugs - but none that cause any crashes or system instability. I can't say the same for civ4 - I have yet to be able to play that game (through 1.52) without a crash; in fact I uninstalled it because it was causing frequent BSOD's and affecting my system stability. What's the point? Software crashes systems sometimes - just because it crashes yours does not mean there is a problem with the sof

Make sure that if you want the ship to appear in other games at certain you make notes of what techs are required. I usually build a 'Base" hull model for each ship type I want to keep using. I make sure when I save it that it does not have any components equipped. This way it will appear with the Hull as the only requirement. I usually add Base to the end of the Ship name to let me know that is what they are. If you need to edit the

You have to register it first through StarDock - then you can get the updates. Stardock Central is simply a download manager - if you don't want to use it permanaently install it to register and to get the updates, then uninstall it until the next time you want to use it. BTW, it is a clean app - I watched it with my Firewall and ID software and it does nothing I don't tell it to do. I guees you can also contact Stardock to register it

Eyes of the Universe. The only way the Ai can beat me is to sneak up on me... and they have no answer for when you sneak up on them. IMO it is overpowered - First because the aI does not research Sensors. Ever. Maybe this will change in 1.1 ... Second because the Ai relies on the FOW to win wars - next time you get the EoU set up a few long range sensors ships to watch the AI as they war among themselves - you will see unescor

So if I read you correctly, a ship with one hitpoint, no armor and a 1 value attack weapon will always be targeted first as long as you make sure your main ships have a slightly lesser value, i.e defensive value is always just slightly greater than attack value ( making the a/d ratio Therefore, the best escort to act as cannon fodder to distract the ai while your heavies vaporized him would

I think the UP would be much more fun if it met on a bi-annual or even quarterly basis. Perhaps it could vote on 'BIG' things that last a while at the main meeting, and vote on short duration referenda that would only last until the next UP meeting at the others...

I love how posters ask us not to make snide remarks about their obviously snide OP's. - the game is good. But the continual crashing at the 'good parts' after 6 hours of mind-numbing turns is begining to &^%$ me off </TR

I thought I read in one of the dev journals or somewhere else in the fourms that the AI is indeed programmed to make a few 'mistakes' randomly once in a while - I.e. reverts back to a lower level decision algorythm. Doesn't this qualify as what the OP wants?

I like the way it is implemented - it adds some suspenseful fun and there is little mm to distract from the immersive game experience. This is a strategic level game - leaders generally don't know what their spooks are doing -plausable deniabily and all - they eventually get the data, but only when the spooks are successful. As far as the starbase and carriers - starbases are too powerful now IMHO, and carriers are not needed as

Hmm...for $5 less you can buy it at the store....let's see, it would cost me about 2.50 for a gallon of gas to get to the store and back; plus about an hour of my time....and my time is worth a heckuva lot more than 2.50/hr. So, instead I bought online, paid a bit more, (but I could do productive work while waiting for the download to finish...I actually made money)....plus I paid a small aditional shipping fee and got the boxed set delive

Thanks Frogboy! Some other suggestions: (I am playing at intelligent level) - Make it very expensive to go over your logistics limit for starbases - I find it depressingly easy to afford to build them over limit now and spam them everywhere. Even early in the game the cost for going over limit is so low that I have no trouble affording it. - Another help may be to increase logistics costs someh

@ Tanrim - You can email your files to stardock as BoogieBack said in post 2. I don't think that they are user editable in version 1.0x. My solution is for Version 1.1 which converts the shipclass files to xml format so users can edit them. If you want to try the beta version, it will convert the files when you upgrade. If not, you will have to wait until 1.1 is released as non-beta

Re my post # 4 I had trouble posting my reply in the GCV2 mod forum due to trying to post code I guess. Forum software did not like it. I re-posted my reply in the Gal civ forums here https://forums.galciv2.com/index.aspx?ForumID=348&AID=111310 The original is in the stardock forums - usually they mesh but not this time.

Note - this is in reply to a post in bug reports - someone was having trouble with tech requirements carrying over in upgraded ships. I could not post this in reply for some reason, maybe length, but it is more appropriate here anyhow. https://forums.stardock.com/index.aspx?ForumID=274&AID=111232#855983 OnEdit: I am having trouble with this post – probably because I am trying to post code. It is appearing sometimes in the Stardock forums

I has this issue too when upgrading. The new design would still require the techs of the old design. However I have been able to fix it now in the Beta 1.1 v2 game since *.shipclass files are now *.xml files and are user editable. ON EDIT: I am having issues posting the fix. Probably too long. I will start a new thread in the modding section with the solution - here is the link to it: https://forums.stardock.com/?ForumID=348&AID=111295

Oh please, people who troll in forums and are hired by companies don't exist. You're all paranoid. On the contrary, AEG is one company that does use guerilla marketing on online boards to affect people's perceptions of products.&n

Just wanted to reply to my last post that I upgraded to 1.1beta v2 and now the shipclass files are now .xml and easily edited - thanks syneris for the heads up! Seems that when you make a 'clean' upgrade (and not start from scratch first) of a design that already had components attached, the required techs carry over, even though the blank design doesn't have any components. Editing the new ship .xml files to remove the

Just want to say that in my last 1.0x game the Scottilingas did not colonize, but they conquered several worlds and actually were able to keep one. They now have two planets, a mining starbase, several influence starbases, three transports hanging around, and a decent fleet that is able to kick butt in limited wars. They appeared early on in the game - and for fun I nurtured them - kept giving them ships and money to keep the other Ai's off them; and would broker pe

Ok, I have a further, more complex question. I have made a bunch of blank hull types - hoping they would show up for the race they were designed for when the hull type was researched. A few should be avaialable at the start - i.e tiny and cargo hulls. But they are not - for example, reading the text tree I find that my base constructor hull will not be available until Warp Drive IV (and 4 other advanced techs)

I would like to say I do not think this is such a grave problem that it undermines the game challenge. Does it need tweaking? Sure, but it is not the killer that some make it out to be IMO. I read a lot of stuff about this before I purchased the game several weeks ago - and I must admit I was expecting the worst - but I was pleasantly surprised. There is no huge tech trade avalanche so far in my games - (playing at inte
