Patching out of order shouldn't harm you since each game is in its own folder. But to be safe, if you have to update both GalCiv2 and Dark Avatar, it couldn't hurt to do GalCiv2 first. -HM

It may take a day or so. But if the problem is what I think it is, they deal with it all the time, and they'll straighten it out. -HM
Gary, you may need to use a program like Driver Cleaner if the version number of the driver isn't reporting the correct thing. You may have old files that are not being deleted properly via the uninstall. -HM
I believe you cannot run the older campaigns in Twilight, so if that interests you, you'll need to run the older games. Twilight is the only client that uses the latest graphics and gameplay elements. Of course it also has the most "stuff" in it, so for a new person it can be a bit daunting to just start a skirmish (non-campaign game) in Twilight and play. Especially because having different tech trees for all the different races can be really challenging (although you can make it a w
Does a dxiag test work properly? I've noticed if you use the latest ATI driver releases with their older cards that it can be problematic. So run dxdiag, go to the Display tab, and run the Test DirectDraw and Test Direct3D buttons and see if they are successful. -HM
You can also try [email protected]. It sounds like they may have to merge your email accounts. -HM
Reply #6 in that thread has some suggestions for Vista. -HM
Read [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174313"]The Monk's guide[/link], which will help you make sure that TCP ports 6000 and 6112 are being forwarded to your PC. That's the cause of most people's issues. -HM
Ultimately the way that Impulse currently does installations of applications is confusing. In my opinion, it should ALWAYS prompt the user for location, and simply show what the default will be if the user just clicks "Ok". As stated above, expansion packs for games generally use assets from the main game, so Impulse should simply pull the appropriate path from the registry for said main game, and install the expansions accordingly. Thanks, -HM
Nothing can be done about that until they tweak Impulse. As near as I can tell, for GalCiv2, it will ALWAYS add that junk to the path. I have always only changed the root level of game installations, but not all the "wonderful" embedded folders publishers love to tack on, because I don't trust them to realize I may have stripped them away if I ever need to do some sort of update in the future. As evidenced by this whole Impulse fiasco. But yeah, we should be able to say: "Ins
Basically, the whole installation process for Impulse is screwed up. If you are downloading the files, and don't choose to have it ask you, it will (theoretically) install the GalCiv2 stuff to where you have specified in Impulse (in Preferences - Folders, then what you have in "My Games" in the "Install Location" pull-down). And THEN it will append \Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2 to the end of that. Whether Impulse at any time is smart enough to look at registry keys or prior installati
It would also be interesting to try retrieving your serials and see if it gives you the ones for the expansions: [link="https://www.stardock.com/support/"]https://www.stardock.com/support/[/link] -HM
"When it's done." They're probably busy working on the game! Although they should just skip out and go to Hawaii... -HM
These days in the USA you can't even return software (or music) that you don't like. I don't personally find this a good enough reason to pirate software and music, but lots of others do. -HM
Here's a post that lets you do it with symbolic links in XP: [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/303977"]https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/303977[/link] -HM
Hah, if only it was luck. Stardock just happens to be good at knowing their audience (both in desktop customization and strategy gaming), thus delivering a product their potential customers are willing to pay for. -HM
It depends on what the file says. Perhaps your problems are already known. For me, they were able to say, "Yes, this is the multiplayer pathfinding bug." So now I don't have to sit wondering if it's my problem or theirs, because they've clearly identified my crash as a problem on their end. -HM
I don't know exactly what you've done so far, but this is what you want to do: 1. Install from the CDs. 2. Go to the URL I listed above, create a Stardock Central account, then download the Stardock Central software. 3. Install Stardock Central. 4. Launch Stardock Central, log in to Stardock Central with the account you created in 2). 5. Choose Tools - Register Products, choose "My Games" on the left, then pick "Galactic Civilizations II", enter
Impulse is, sadly, always going to add the "Stardock\TotalGaming..." etc. to your path, so when installing, you have to be sure to tell Impulse to point a few levels higher than where you THINK the expansions need to be installed. So let's say that you have Impulse checked to prompt for install folder. And you point it directly to "C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\Twilight" Then what Impulse will do is install it in: C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\GalCiv2\
Did you create a Stardock.net account and download Stardock Central: [link="https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp"]https://www.stardock.com/sdnet_login.asp[/link] Once you do that, you can enter the serial number into Stardock Central, register the game, and then download updates. But you weren't clear about what you purchased (GalCiv2? Expansions?) or where you purchased it (online? In store?). We need more information to properly help (since the "it" in "it say
The more I think about this (and read the forum posts), the more I wonder what crack Bioware was smoking when they agreed to this EA nonsense. First of all, you only get 3 activations. Didn't they learn from the Bioshock fiasco that this isn't enough? Because of all the activation problems on release week, people used that up in a hurry. So they upped it to 5. And additionally, they have some sort of revoke tool you need to download and use w/Bioshock to free up the licenses. This
The String Not Found error most likely has to do with a Vista issue. See [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/310777"]here[/link]. The Impulse issue he's speaking about I've referred to in more than a few places on this forum. It generally has to do with Impulse not having the proper PATH and EXE variables for the expansion packs. You can manually fix it by reading my reply #10 [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/310285"]here[/link]. Follow the same guidelines for Twilight. But supposed
[quote]If this DRM is making you renew this game , then its almost like you have payed good money to borrow the game. The moment I decide to play the game , and its at non-internet location (happens alot) , and its been 10 days...and the game doesnt work , the game would feel like its not part of my laptop , only something borrowed. If I buy something, I want full control over it.[/quote] Sadly, correct you are. Because you're not buying the game itself. You're buying a [I]license[/I]
If it is in fact a game issue then they will be able to tell you EXACTLY why it's happening. Send the files to [email protected]. -HM
The main change was solving the problem where the create custom opponent button was greyed out. -HM
