Rather than having a whole bloated browser with all functions possible loaded, you can set it up the way you want it by adding extensions. Well you've stated the conventional wisdom about the IE/OS integration, tjesterb. I haven't yet played with IEradicator or 98 Lite on my old W98SE system to see what life without IE/OS integration is like on that OS. I guess it wouldn't make that much difference functionally although perhaps a bit safer maybe. Some folks who've done it have told me it's OK. They reinstall IE as a standalone browser since they still like it. I'm not sure if XPLite can accomplish exactly the same thing or not on X

bordfryr: Netscape is part of the Mozilla clan, an ancestor so to speak. I may be stating it a bit broadly, but basically the Netscape code was made open source and given to the Mozilla folks. So the Mozilla and Firefox browsers are the descendants of Netscape. Netscape is a bit old now so a number of Netscape fans have switched to Mozilla since it's still being developed and supported.
Why are you confused, MGiff? If you're going to use IE or an IE shell (like MyIE2 my favorite IE shell) you should tighten up IE's security settings. I posted a couple links above to help. It downloads an ActiveX component (which is a amall program really) to your computer to do its thing. Crazy Browser as I recall is an IE shell. Of the IE shells I prefer MyIE2, but Avant is also popular. (Just thought I'd toss that out there in case anyone wants to look into those. Bascially they all use IE but add more features.)
Opera's 7.5x interface can be streamlined considerably. I also didn't like the default with all the stuff taking up space so I configured it to be more minimalistic. But FF is pretty cool too.

Thunderbird is the stand alone email client (and newsreader), Firefox is the stand alone browser. There have been some changes/additions to FF/FB since 0.7 and I'm guessing MP finds 0.7 leaner than 0.9. I haven't yet tried 0.9 but compared to some other apps I'd be surprised if it would be considered "bloatware." I tried Opera 7.5 when it came out and found I liked it much more than previous Opera versions so I've been using that at home almost exclusively. It seems pretty speedy to me. Firefox is a good alternative to IE also. It's still in development and some people might run into occasional quirks or crashes or not be into the "build your own features" concept with the use of various browser extensions. werewolf: ZA 5's AV monitor was programmed to detect only NAV, McAfee and CA's EZ AV. That's why it doesn't detect AVG. I imagine in time it may add other AV's to monitor. You might want to turn the AV monitor off since it doesn't work with your AV.
