True, but if you have enough flak frigates to pull that off, and the bombers, you probably have a full-up fleet that'd cut through the defenses anyway. Not necessary so. 5 flaks plus 5 siege frigates are able to kill a planet defended with up to 4 hangars (not upgraded planets, they take too long with just 5 siege frigates), provided the enemy doesn't has any ships there. (Against the AI for example.) Gauss cannons are irrelevant since you can avoid them

its as simple as killing the planet Well, this is the issue. It's not that simple to kill a well defended planet. (Of course against the AI it's simple, but actually anything against the AI is simple. ) There are planetary shield generators which could spoil your bombing. (Shield generators are easily defended with gauss cannons.) And if your enem

It's dissapointing the planets don't meet your expectations. No, no. The planet textures are beautiful, it's also one of the graphic features I like most with sins. Your graphic artist really did great work on them. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. The original texture sizes are much larger, but with the quantity of planetoids we feature, we would need to sacrifice texture space somewhere else. <b

Agree. This should also give an incentive to bombard a planet/to defend it against bombardment. Currently it's not a big loss if your planet is killed, as long as you have the structures there (and don't need anything new to build). Of course you lose the current improvements you've built, but on asteroids this is no big deal (or on other undeveloped worlds).

Have you looked at the recent shots with Vasari/Advent ships? TEC ships are blocky by design, but the other two races are much curvier and shinier. They seem pretty comparable to the image you posted aside from the [IMO excessive] bloom used there. Well, Sins still loses to the beauty that is X³. Sadly, over all the graphic improvement Egosoft made for X³ they absolutely and totally screwed the interface. The user interface in X³ is so cumberso

you can lose the resources for the full construction project because somebody walked up and kicked over the 'coming soon' sign Hey, those are very expensive gold plated "coming soon" signs. ------ Yes, it's sadly not fixed atm. Imho the enemy also shouldn't see where you'll build something until construction has started. ------ the ships go to one point, slow down, change direction, and

Yeah, that looked sweet. I'll try it tonight after work. So, how was it? I'm a very inexperienced mapper, so I dunno what is good and what not. can u make some others this was well good Thx. But I would need to know to make phaselanes from planets to stars first. (Kryo, Yarlen, does someone of y

*Hmmm, maybe unused tactical points could go towards fleet points, BUT not the reverse (as the planet power grid could not support it anyway). What do you guys think? Hmm... why not? It wouldn't really be imba since you couldn't build more defenses, but just more ships. It could force you in a decision between ships or defenses a bit, which isn't bad. Yeah, could be done. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 a

but does the logistical, tactical and fleet point system have to be so absolutely contrived? No, if I knew of a better system, I would be all for it. You're right that the current system is very contrived, but I don't know of a way to make it better which doesn't add some serious balance issues. If there were one pool for fleets, logistic and tactical empire wide, it would make it possible to build really large defenses at front line planets. Wi

I would like to request that we are allowed to choose the background color for our games, I dont want a red background just because i choose the color red .. or a green one if i choose a green color.. I like a dark blue background no matter the icon color i choose to play.please this is so annoying can we get a fix for it please In the "effects" menu there are two check boxes for the background. One is the colorful, the other is the deep space. If curren

ou could of done all of this already before this gay patch now i have to find away to uninstall this crap!!! You know, just to inform you. If I had any power you would be banned for this type of comment. What the hell were they thinking they put a limit on how many capital ships you can have there already was a limit why do you

Suggestions: -Now that they are totally separate, you should be allowed to research military and civilian projects at the same time (if you have the resources to do so, of course). Strongly agree. -Capital Ships should spread some tiny amount of culture. They could help you capture planets far behind enemy lines. Maybe you could give the Culture ability choice to the Dunov so it is a bit more useful. <br/

as multi said, it takes more time to get through, also, it makes it so people cant scout your systems and see what youre doing Not really. There is a tech that allows scouts to ignore jump blockers. A better defense against obnoxious scouts are imho some hangars with fighters, since they do nice damage against scouts. 3

yea some super wepons are good and make u need 2 scout but if its like c&c then its a no but id still like a go with the big mama Agree. The super weapons in C&C always sucked in multi player. Since most of the time they are not defendable hitters. (Only way to defend against them was destroying the corresponding building in the well defended enemy base. Super weapons in Total Annihilation/Supreme Commander were good, since they were balanced. A

Problem is you can't ring your system with these, so thats a moot point anyway. Its far more effective just to place the cannons on top of anything that needs defending. No, that wasn't was I meant. The problem is imho the following: For what are you using gauss cannons? Either to defend orbitals or to defend the planet. If you're defending orbitals, you have to clump them together or I'll just fly around them (over, under, left, right, whatever

So I've played my map two times. First time I've rushed and won against a medium AI. The second time I took my time against a hard AI and promptly lost. The pirates seems to have captured some capital ships. The pirate capital planet is decently defended. Fighting the scum of the universe. <img src="

I have to agree, it does add little tactical depth in a game like Sins. The micro of such a battle would be a waste of time in the first place. Wrong. As was said above, you can easily avoid gauss cannons by flying over them or under them, making them useless against a human player. It would also be nice to be able to place structures in 3d, since a gauss cannon wall is of course much more effective than a gauss cannon line, or for that matter,

I absolutely adore Legend of the Galactic Heroes , an epic space anime series which is over 110 episodes long. It tells the struggle between two warring human empires, one a monarchy and the other a democratic republic. There are no real bad guys in this and the cast of people is very large with lots of likable characters on every side. It's also a fairly realistic series, with no magic weapons and mysticis

HOW IS THAT A VASARI MARZA?!?!? Schem use common sense, compare it's size to everything around it! And this is the new Tech super capital ship! Perspectives can be misleading. It's hard to judge size if you don't know how far away something is.

A great idea by Ron I really like this Idea. It could even be the other way around: D: Rich concentration of valuable ores in the crust, but also a very diverse and rich, although highly instable, ecosystem. Slight increase in resource mining, high increase in culture and taxation. S1: Industrial exploitation. Medium increase in resource mining and tax generation. S2: Industrial Wasteland. High increase in resource mining refini

I just think the idea of the cannon needs to be reworked, it cannot bomb with the same DPS as the siege frigs or the capital ships, that would be frankly too good. it should be very much an attrition thing that does most of its damage to POPULACE. also it should be mad expensive, so if you dont defend it properly, it ruins you. Not necessary so. A fully researched planetary shield absorbs 70% of the damage of bombarding. So, even if the Novalith

Thanks to the change to the custom galaxy setting, we can now load custom scenario maps, like the ones which are used for the tutorials. Sadly scripting doesn't seem to work, but you can still make a map which gives you a different experience as the normal game. I've made a small one versus one map with about 30 planets, 2 stars which is biased for the AI. The AI should be a considerable stronger enemy in this map since it has numerous starting bonuses and more planets at the beginning
