That's why I picked it myself. It doesn't make it go much faster, but it's nice not having to babysit colony frigs. Just take out the pirates, colonize, and move on. But the ion bolt does help it to hold its own in combat, or at least play a useful role. It's imho still slower then a Kol-colony ship combo. A Kol can clear planets from pirates so fast, that you'll need 2 colony ships to keep up with colonizing them ie. antimatter regeneration for the colo

in general its smart only for a larger empire who is stagnant at the moment. Yep. The boni can be very powerful (30% increase in antimatter regeneration, 12% increase in all weapons damage, etc.) but it's very expensive to search all your planets. If you've bad luck, you'll waste a lot of money, but if you're lucky you can get a distinctive advantage without spending a lot.

On a bit more serious note, the pathfinding AI really needs some improvements. Ships often bump into resource asteroids, planets, capital ships, etc. when you give them some new move orders midway in a fight. If a ship is moving and you give it new move orders, it will slow down almost to a stop, turn and then accelerate again. This is quite bad if you're just fleeing from an enemy since he then certainly will be able to catch up. Bombers and fighters are especially ba

Well, the current system doesn't really avoid the steam-roll-the-ai-with-capitals problem, but that's not really the issue here, I think. You can easily get the first 6 capitals with only a modest increase in cost (some thousands credits in total) since you'll build the necessary military research buildings in the early game anyway. So, in the few games I've played with the new patch against 3 allied hard AIs my first 6 ships were still capital ships, so not really a change the

we all take technological process for granted... Well, if you're able to travel to other stars in a time frame which allows wars, well, you'll absolutely be able to accelerate a ball to 1'000km/s. What I wanted the say was, that I consider it impossible to wage wars across more then one solar system effectively, so yeah, a civilization that could do that c

how did you accelerate that again...? If we have a space faring interstellar civilization that wages war across solar systems, accelerating something to this speed should be trivial. You have a point if we're talking about a civilization that isn't able to leave it's own star system and it's a in-system war. From this page i got the following formula: (

1. Basically it's limitless. (Although it's limited by playability. Too large isn't really fun anymore. ) 2. Jump between stars is the same as jumps between planets. 3. Waiting until your fleet arrives, nothing else. 4. Your wish is an order to me: A light frigate in front. Behind

Well in a real physics universe, armor would be good for nothing against attacks by mass driver type weapons, but could be useful against non-penetrating nuclear weapons, light based weapons. A projectile accelerated (in reference to it's target) fast enough (let's say a 1000 km/s) would have so much energy that it would probably vaporize every kind of armor in it's way. E,kin=½*m*v² Let's say, 10kg of mass, with a speed of 1000km/s ½*10*1'000'000²=5*10^12 joule, which

Actually, I don't really pay attention to resource usage and amount, but for me it's something like this: - lots of credits => build more capital ships - lots of metals => more Cobalts - lots of crystal => more research not enough of anything? attack the enemy to get more colonies

Nah, won't buy games with this sort of crappy copy protection. I mean, basically it's an install protection, how bad is that? Really, publishers like this go on my nerves quite a lot this days. Ts.

Culture in general needs to decrease faster.... Well, most important is the removal of the instaflip colonizing, everything else isn't that bad. But it sounds like this will come, so... we'll wait and see.

5/10 As others have said, the current game is missing so much, so it's surprising that it earns those 5 out of 10 at the moment. The AI sucks, there is no multiplayer, only one race which is only half implented, etc. I wager to say, that multiplayer alone (or a decent AI respectively) would give it +1. The inclusion of the other two races probably another +1. Balancing of the current abyssimal culture system: another +1. This would give it a

You guys need to remember that there are literally hundreds of additional items not in the beta to keep you busy. It's not like you won't have anything to do in the final game. Even then, I doubt that there wouldn't be times where there is nothing interesting to do. So a time dilatation function would really be nice to have.

The dev's have admited that the system needs tweaking, but the basics are here to stay. Also, be aware that orbital bombardment doesn't kill the entire population, only the administrators and other "in charge" people from the enemy government -- the planets "core" population remains untouched. Which is imho actually a pretty bad exculpation. It was bad in GalCiv and it is bad here. It just isn't plausible. I mean, I bomb a planet with nuclear weapons whi

Nah, not really worth it. Certainly not against the AI. As others have said, it only increases the rate at which you accumulate those resources, so you don't gain more. If you were in a tight fit and would need some resources quickly it could be useful. But this isn't really ever the case for me, so I just ditch those techs.

8 Replies 3,902 Views

1) What do I do with all the accumulated resources? Give it as a gift to some AI, maybe they'll then do something with it. 2) Why didn't the AI take me out while I was absent from the helm? Because the AI is useless. Btw. imho the game should change to pause when minimized. Sometimes I forgot to pause

Love that idea. Really. A minor nitpick: (Say, after 20 minutes without any hostiles in the system, the loyalty goes up by 1%, and again every further ten minutes.) This would be way to slow. It would take over 20+14*10=160= 2.4 hours for it to regain the lost loyalty. Something more sensible would be 1% per minute, for a total of 15 minutes to r

It allows interstellar travel -- if there is more than one star in the game, it lets your ships utilize the lines between stars. Yeah, but what is the use in that. You also have the normal jump research that does exactly the same. Well for me in order for a movie to be good it had to have a good logical story, character, a well designed plot, and good acting (which eliminates many modern movies) Well, it doesn't fulfill all of this, but Shaun of the dead is quite fun. It has zombies and British humor, which makes it twice as fun as other movies.

Do people use the reports (the infocard is that popup window on the other side of the screen ) much? or do you find it's too irritating to have the camera moving around all the time? Never use it. To irritating with the jumping. If there is an attack (an actual attack, not just scouts jumping in) I zoom all the way out and zoom to wherever it is happening. This is very important on larger maps, because I want to know where it is happening

Perhaps the fleet upkeep should go WAY up with the distance from the closest planet with a certain structure built? This way preventing the fleets to go on indefinitely and destroy all in their path. Also simulating the supply line I guess. The colonising could not even be restricted by culture (culture could have an effect on pirates or income of the plante though) since even with the colonisation the fleet could go no further than before untill a "certain supply stru

I was going to suggest somewhat transparent scrollbars and only initiate the scroll if the scrollbars are used. However, I can see how that would also be frustrating to people as the scrolling option makes it very quick to mouse over that message area and quickly scroll up and down. Actually I can't see a reason, why I would need to see past messages very quickly. If it would go my way, this message box would be disabled anyway, I couldn't care less for
