You aren't supposed to max out your weapons before doing anything. I've only got the top weapon once, and by that time I had already effectively won, I don't think I even got a single ship built with the new tech.

Don't mix different weapon types on the same ship! It is far less effective against defenses. If you want to be prepared for all kinds of enemy defenses, then have seperate ships with the different weapons. Also, missiles are not more powerful than the other weapons, because you can fit twice as many beams/mass drivers in the same space. I generally go for whatever the AI isn't using. There's usually one tree that nobody else goes down. If I have a choice, the Nano ripper is still wor

I think there's that event that slowly increases the bonuses of the civ each turn. That only happens to small civs (AFAIK). Normally that tends to be a curse in disguise, since I then make it my very next move to wipe them from existence.

Good is good for diplomacy... Both Good and Neutral races like good races. Though the neutrals have a bonus in that as well, since three extra trade routes can make you more popular. I'm not the sort of person who tries to play for the absolute optimum though, but to try out different scenarios. If my race is good, I'll play good, even if it is not technically the best strategy.

I think he's talking about something to help out AI civs that are weakened, not to help out the player. And the bonus would go away again later, so they wouldn't just bounce back to be even more powerful than before. As it is, if an AI is weakened early on, they can be safely ignored for the rest of the game. There are already some events that help out civs that are weakened (finding a precursor ship for instance).

Pirates are just roving fleets. I saw one once, it just suicided on my starbase. You are more likely to get precursor ships if you are behind militarily.

Update your video drivers. I REALLY hope that's a joke, especially since your own picture is missing. What on earth would video drivers have to do with it? It's possible that maybe your picture was accidentally lost. Try uploading it again.

I did something similar, I assume Iztok Bitenc is referring to me. I did colonise Mars, and I did conquer other planets, but I didn't build any more colonisation ships. I also didn't grab any resources until the late game, though that wasn't deliberate. I'm not sure what the precise rules of the OCC were so I may not have fulfilled them. I played on tough with relatively kind settings (so that I wasn't totally overwhelmed), the Drengin colonised about eight or so planets to my two, an

I'm pretty sure that I saw in one of the change logs that you now cannot get a ranger until after a certain number of years, no matter how lucky you are. I guess it's to stop one civ becoming insanely powerful early in the game.

Well, maybe you should just have a "Win Game" button that lets the AI make your moves for you. That wouldn't be monotonous and repetitive If you don't want to play the game, don't play the game. If you can't be bothered to move a couple of ships around under autopilot (which doesn't even involve moving them yourself), I don't see how you can be much of a fan of TB

It’s so simple, a space under you influence is your space. No, it isn't so simple. That means that 'my space' could quite often include several of other people's planets. Or their entire empire. What exactly are they supposed to do then? What does influence have to do with controlling territory? This is NOT Civ IV. The influence in t

Here's the debug.err from my latest game. In a possibly related problem, the highlighted area around the starbase will occasionally just vanish if you view it from different positions. That would be nice but the problem is probably going to be that each color is a number for RGB each being 0-255. R=200 G=200 B=200 is a different color from R=199 G=199 B=199 but when you look at it, its virtually the same color. So what you do is sum up all the differences between each RGB value. If the total is less than, say, 50 or so, then

Thumbs up to 'tanks off my lawn' option, but NOT based on influence boundaries. Improved espionage is coming in the expansion pack.

While it is still a bug, I reckon that the reason that Minors tend to mistake transports being near their planets is because they are near to one of their space stations.

5. Regular tribute. Instead of a one-time payment, it would give a constant relations boost in a similar manner to trading.
