I'm pretty sure it's an oversight. Seems to me that it should work the same way as breaking with a major (replacing trade embargo). One slightly cheaty way to break an alliance is to pay another race to attack the minor, then refuse to assist them.

I see the conquest victory fine, just nothing in Scenarios. I assumed you weren't supposed to.
Many years ago, a race known as the Arnor ruled the galaxy in peace. To amuse themselves, they created a new species- living bricks of many colours, who lived their lives falling from the sky before landing, to build an enormous wall, and then eventually die as they became overcrowded on all sides by other blocks. However, the Arnor were so diverted by this passtime that they failed to notice a growing number amoung them were becoming dissatisfied... These dissatisfied Arnor decided t
I've never had any movies in any of the scenarios... Are you supposed to?
Yeah, the AI still makes some blunders. Recently, the AI has been doing the exact opposite of what the Thalans did in your game. They build tons of farms, but few morale buildings. My guess is that this is an attempt to counter my soldiering advantage, but it doesn't really work because it just means low morale + Info warfare = easy victory for me. The empty hulls is presumably meant to counter militarisation before the AI itself has weapons. It isn't ENTIRELY stupid, but p
Good job on the mocked up screenshots... I too would love a way to automate starbase upgrades somehow. Ordering all those constructors around can be time consuming and just a little bit boring.
The AI get no head start in any setting. The only cheating they do is in the economic bonuses above Tough level. Tough levels puts the AI as smart as it can get, but on a completely even playing field. AIs can 'skip' techs by echanging techs in the diplomacy window. If another civ has Warp and they are only on Impulse drive, they can still swap techs. Similar rules apply to techs stolen from espionage or planetary invasion. Some races also start of with a tech, but not its prerequisit
Except they've already got a massive fleet, so it isn't so critical for them.
There's an option in the menu 'Tactical view level' or something. That determines where it switches between 3D/2D.
Haha. I've had explosions turned off since 1.0X. Just turned them back on and it was fine. I hadn't realised this had been fixed
Yeah, this happened to one of my starbases once. I bought the ship off him and it was fine. Of course, it would just have to be one of the 'Vengance' ships, so I had to buy every single one of the things to make sure I got the right one...
My theory is this: 1. I know that if I didn't have to get any work done, I'd play every Gal Civ game through from start to finish. 2. Stardock's job IS Gal Civ 3. Stardock never save/load the game, and thus never noticed the problem
That's true. If you play the computer at precisely its own game, it's going to win. Because playing the computer at its own game involves sending unarmed transporters against enemy fleets, building capitals on Class 4 planets and so on But the AI is better at maximising its economy (theoretically) so it can just outclass you. You just have to decide yourself whether it is cheasy or not. Some
It would be nice if the computers coordinated better with each other. For instance, if the Drengin and Yor bothhad poor relations with you, but you were stronger than each of them individually, they might both declare war at the same time. Computers could also come to you with things like 'We will attack the Drengin if you attack the Drengin'.
My computer runs XP. This is not an OS issue. It also runs Dawn of War, which has explosions about 10 times prettier than Gal Civ II. I'm not saying that you can't have your 'cool' explosions, as long as I have an alternative that doesn't ammount to vanishing spaceships.
I never put more than TWO engines on a combat ship. Why do you need that much speed? Sure, you want first strike, but TWO engines should be plenty. After that point you're getting to the edge of maximum sensor range anyway. I manage most of the time with ONE. More guns. And yes, of course you deal in FLEETS. Thus you build lots of SINGLE ships on that planet and then form the SINGLE ships into a FLEET. You keep forming SINGLE ships from other planets into FLEETS as well, just keep the
The argument for not being able to demolish Capitals is that that forces you to think about where to place them, rather than to put them somewhere now, and then move them later because you found a planet with several bonus tiles. Do you go for the instant benifit or increased production now, or hold on in hope of finding a better planet? What would be nice is that if you captured an AI planet with a capital on before building your own, you should still be able to build a capital of th
No, it doesn't increase speed by 10%. I was saying that even with a ship which already has speed as high as 12, it still increases the speed by a little under 10%, which is not insignificant. 1 square at a time adds up. On a ship with a speed of 4, it will increase the speed by 25%, which is certainly useful. +1 speed is +1 of whatever your opponent can manage with the same tech etc. That can make the difference between being the attacker or the defender. It all
Yeah, I had to turn them off as well, which is a shame. I've heard Stardock refer to them as 'point sprites' or something, which apparently doesn't work well with my card. It would be nice if they provided an alternative type of explosion for those of us with puny hardware, since one of the things that attracted me to this game was the assertion that it was designed to work with low end hardware. Sure, it works. But all the spaceships just disappear into thin air instead of blowing up
When attacking with a fleet of transports, you will only loose as many transports as the number of troops you loose. i.e. You have 3 transports with 2000 (million!) troops each, and loose 1000 troops in the invasion, so you are left with two full transports and a billion on the planet. If you use info warfare, and loose less troops than you gained from info warfare, you can end up with all of the transports left. Of course, this only works if you have a massive soldiering t
That is exactly the description of what the improvement says. What else did you expect? Even with your already quite high movement speeds, that's a boost of only just less than 10%. Build it on your biggest manufacturing world to get the maximum benifit.
Yeah, overwriting ships like that will cause problems. Add things like 'Mk2' or whatever onto the end of the name, and delete old designs as you go (rather than obsoleting them).
Heh. I remember when I was much younger I had a football management game. I picked some rubbish division 3 side, and reloaded every game I lost. I won the FA cup, but I must have played each game about 10 times. It was pointless. Never again.
OP ----8:04:08 PM Bump 8:04 PM troll Ya depth could be displayed in color saturation. that would be sweet. There's only one troll in this thread. And he isn't called Pnakotus. It would be nice as an option, but I could imagine it beeing annoying if you can't turn it off. It's fine for two races, you can just meld the c
I posted about this ages ago and never got an answer. I'll bump in the hope it gets some attention this time though...
