This is truly sad to hear. My condolences, thoughts and prayers to you and your family. [e digicons]v_v[/e]

The webform/template idea vStyler suggests is the best idea to promote coherent, constructive critiques. I'm a member of a writing site that does this, and it could be easily implemented for WBs, since there is a standard for what things should be skinned (buttons, window, start menu, taskbar, etc.) The reason a WIP area is be needed is to distinguish the lazy from the honest skinner...sometimes a skinner who posts in the gallery is not looking for or open to any cr
Ive suggested before, A WIP area where beta skins can be posted, tested, ripped apart, feedback given, perhaps some kind of feedback system driven by multiple choice checkboxes and small comment areas. A. Is it missing sections - Yes \ No - which? B - Does it have noticable buggy areas that hinder ease of use - where. etc...
An excellent idea. [e digicons][/e]
I think that has improved a lot recently and hopefully will be worked on more, but no amount of learning resources can make up for lazy skinning or bad design choices. That's where better moderation and more standardized qualifying plays the significant role.
I will agree that one does not cancel out the other. There needs to be a balance, but as k10w3 said, how does rejecting help? (To be clear, I am in favor of rejecting blatant crap...but it's still subjective.) So y
Question. How will site navigation work? Currently we can quickly switch from one library to another by clicking the gallery list on the side *which we can pic and choose what is shown within it*. Without this will we have to constantly return to main page or hit the back button, to start all site navigation from one page?
There's always the breadcrumbs at the top of the page. But I usually use the sidebar, since it's more visible.
display the quality stuff first, enticing people into trying the product and not giving up and walking away after looking through page after page of blah/rushed skins. It's just like having good curb appeal when trying to sell a house. If it looks like rundown overgrown shit outside, no one will want to go inside and check it out.
Agreed.
I see where k10w3 is coming from; we should be careful not to discourage newbies altogether. It is hard enough for a newbie to learn to use the programs well enough to put out high-quality stuff. There are only 8 basic WB tuts on the wiki (if I used the program I'd help, but I've got my hands full making DX tuts, atm.) I'd
I see nothing wrong with these changes. [e digicons][/e]
So, currently, WC doesn't get any funding from the profits of Stardock products? WC is only run on subscriptions and ads?
Didn't there used to be bulletins at the top of the forums? Shouldn't there be one concerning this upload/server issue so everyone can see it? Oh, and welcome Revanito. [e digicons]:)[/e]
[e digicons]k4[/e] Excellent.
sViz There's only so many ways to do a clock, weather, or meter before it just becomes reskinning. If you think about it, you could apply that line of reasoning to WB skins. There's only so many ways to do a START MENU, TASKBAR, OR WINDOW SHELL before it just becomes reskinning. Nice work, Erik![e digicons][/e]
Glad it works for you. [e digicons]:)[/e]
That's weird. It really won't work with screen coordinates and I haven't a clue why it won't set child. Another alternative I use is to have an up and down button. It scrolls the text up or down as long as you hold down the button. I did this once, when there was no room for a scrolling button. You'd create two objects named "up" and "down" The script should go in the parent object of the buttons (which should be the base container object.) The action is in three parts.<
I don't think the dot should use screen coordinates. Did you try going to Properties > Summary and set child to 'yes' (sometimes you have to do that manually, and input the correct xy coordinates there.)
A DX category just for the most commonly used widgets? Hmm, I don't think that does the program any justice. The most commonly used widgets are clocks, weather, and meters...which would already be part of the theme. There's only so many ways to do a clock, weather, or meter before it just becomes reskinning. Alas, I don't think it's feasable for the GUI champs. But I'd still like to see more skinning categories other than WB, dreams, etc.
Widget hon, he's not perfect, but I'll work on that, his eye's move, he floats up and now, looks kinda cute plus I've always wanted a Seahorse, and Frogboy won't ever get around to making me one no matter how much I beg I've made a bunch of Saw [movie] widgets too, the clock is actually not bad, and it's animated with that evil puppet laugh
Oh, cool!
some basic explanation of what you're doing and the cause/effect would be nice.
Agreed!
I actually got the notifier to export and allow me to configure, you can't group thing's OR make the thing a shortcut or a URL, it will cut out the config option in the same way grouping does, happens with the meters as well.
Great! Never would've guessed that'd be a problem, but DX does wacky things sometimes. &nbs
[e digicons]k4[/e] Great tut, Jim!
lol. I've heard about bubbles, fish tanks, and now seahorses. I'm curious to see your finished product. Is this a DX theme or a widget?
That's weird. When I export and r-click on the widget I get an option to configure the email account and everything.
Sounds good, but how many teams will actually participate in suites unless its mandatory? I don't see that many new suites in the suites gallery. I doubt there'll ever be a category for widgets. DX Widgets are harder to standardize (and judge, for that matter)--it's like apples and oranges. One could make a live action, interactive, talking fish and another could make a gadget that teaches Spanish. The first is more fun and the second is more productive.
Yeah. That's why I feel there needs to be more effort to explain DX rather than just add more features. It doesn't really matter how powerful you make a program if no one knows how to get it to work properly.
