You can't create your own custom ship style, that's why the button isn't highlighted. That's only used for custom opponents. All you can do is design them in game and use them that way. BTW, be sure to download Kryo's hull mod over in the Library forum. It's an awesome tool for making your designs and also allows you to use all the hulls in the game, not just those for your race. You can even add asteroids to your ship if you want to, though why you would is beyond me.

This has been an interesting discussion. I've been building Farms on every bonus tile I come across. I've had planets that might have one 300% and two 100% and I've built on them all. I see now that may not be a good idea. I've always wondered what the ideal population limit should be, now I have an idea. Obviously I need to build less Farms, I've been trying for at least 2 per planet.

I would like to see them being a bit smarter though: less constructor/star base spam, and more trade. They certainly shouldn't be building Influence starbases, they serve absolutely no purpose at all. They'd be better off building Military starbases near their home world, and better ships to defend themselves with.

Expanding, aggressive/passive Minors please! But that would make them Majors. They're meant to stay at home and not expand to other systems. Otherwise they're just another player race.

They shouldn't? Not played much since the DA beta, so maybe I missed this change, but previously they still gave their square root in defence to off types. Like I said, I don't really know how they work, but it stands to reason that a Deflector shouldn't give any bonus to a Missile attack. They were designed with Beam weapons in mind after all.

I like the custom races too, and now i make sure they get a unique territory color. Where do you adjust the personality of the race is it stashed in an xml file somewhere? You can do that ingame. Just hit Edit and look for the personalities tab. If you can give them the personalities of all default races currently in the game or give them a default one. Plus there's some sliders you can adjust to make them more agressive etc. I'm not sure if those reall

I'll say again that these tiles have to be hurting the AI. Every time it tries to build on one, it's either incurring opportunity costs like the ones above, or it's condemning a planet to low morale and low growth. The AI is already pretty weak at developing its planets, and this can't be helping matters. From what I've seen, that's not really an issue anyway. The AI seems to totally disregard any bonus tiles that are on a planet. The only ones tha

I'd wait before downloading the current patch though. There's a bug in it where if you're playing on a Gigantic map, the three sectors on one or two sides of the map won't get cleared of the unexplored territory fog. We're hopefully expecting a new patch sometime today that will fix this. One of the devs posted last night and mentioned that it would probably be ready today. Provided they don't run into any last minute complications.

In fact it should be released today sometime, according to one the devs who posted that info last night. And the problem isn't restricted to the far right/top sectors, I've seen it happen on all sides. Though not at the same time, it's usually restricted to one or two sides at a time. But those sides can be anywhere.

Because production tiles only boost actual production, not boosts of boosts. They do not (I believe) simply multiply whatever structure is placed upon them. If a structure provides X production, it would be multiplied by the tile. If a structure provides a % bonus to production, it would NOT be multiplied by the tile. You follow? The end result is the same. Having a Factory on a +100% tile means the equivalent of having two factori

It seems Terrans are the best choices to play when have many AIs at very high difficulty levels. Am I right? I'd say it's all a matter of your playing style. Some players can't be bothered being nice to everyone, even if they eventually stab everyone in the back. They'd rather come out slugging and fight thier way to the top.

So they put on a Shield module and then they get +2 against beam and +1 against missile? Or is it just that they are providing MORE than they should off type (square root of it I think)? Personally I haven't had too much of an issue with this, but I can see how it would be a devilish bug on higher levels and with huge fleet battles occurring. I feel bad for anyone that has dealt with that bug. <IMG src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Crying.gif" onload=setI

A planetary tile (if I understand correctly) can improve the numeric output of a given building it is suitable for (a factory producing 8 on a 200% bonus tile produces 24 manufacturing units) but placing a percentage bonus building (like a manufacturing capital or market) does not utilize that tile's special qualities at all. Why wouldn't it? If a market building is making 8% more econ and it's placed on a 100% tile, that means it's making 16%

What is the off-type defense bug? Some people are reporting that ships will get defence results even from modules that aren't supposed to give them. Like a ship that has a defence module against beam weapons, but they still provide protection against missile weapons even though they aren't supposed to.

Are trying out the changes from a brand new game or a saved one? I doubt a saved game would recognize the changes you've made, the values would be stored in the save.

still having the same issue. Gamebreaking bug for me. Anyone have any ideas? Get a decent video card. The onboard Intel ones are crap, spend a few dollars getting something half decent. You're fortunate you can even play the game on those things, most games these days don't even support them.

Yeah I'm hoping the new update comes soon as well... I hope they can improve performance on lower end systems for Dark Avatar. And of course improve the tech trading and such as well. I think you can expect the next release to be strictly bug fixes. Any performance improvements will no doubt have to wait until 1.6X is released, which could be a month or so from now.

5) I would really like to see the introduction of a Science Vessel . This would be done by modifying the survey module to give you research points. I say have 4 techs that would branch off of stellar cartography. Each would provide you with the next level research module for your ships. The first should give 1 extra RP but be about size 20, the next 2, the next 3, and finally 4; each getting progressively smaller. The cost should be balanced so that it is encoura

Like I said, the real problem with larger galaxies is not memory but the AI not having the ability to navigate such vastness and actually be able to accomplish anything. Humans have the advantage in being able to purposely decide on a course of action with a mere glance at the map. It seems to me that if a game like Civilization can have the AI deal effectively with much larger maps, the AI in GalCiv should be able to handle a slighter larger m

Wow again no fix... I have a very hard time believing it's that complicated of a fix. Star Dock will you please give us a solid realease date for a patch ? I know it's only been 5 days but im starting to think about going back to WOW which means I won't be playing DA i'd really not like that to happen . Apparently the fog of war problem has already been fixed. But there are other issues as well that they're no doubt trying to deal with at the same time.

Is it asking too much for a fix to the off-type defense bug in the next patch? This has really turned out to be one hell of a patch hasn't it? Between the fog of war, the CTDs and the off-type defence bug, the game is actually worse off than it was before. I've reinstalled my game and I won't be getting the patch again until

The problem with larger maps is that they use more memory. Plus, even if you could in theory expand both axes by a factor of ten, the wait time at the end of the turn would increase at a phenomenal rate as the AI is given more time to path-find. The only reason the likes of MOO2 could fit so many stars systems into a galaxy at the time it was released was because ships didn't move 'off-road' and therefore there was much less data to record about ships and thei
