Yes, economics are rather neglected. There isn't even any bonus tiles for extra cash, though pretty much everything else has something. It would be nice to at least see a +100% economy bonus tile, it would really help me determine where to build my economic capital. Not to mention give some much needed cash.

Incidently, Dark Avatar is a cakewalk on my 7950. I can turn the anti-aliasing up to six and have all the bells and whistles turned on with no problems at all. And this is on a 1680 X 1050 widescreen monitor, which is fairly high resolution. Of course I also have 2 gig of RAM which probably helps as well. I even added the high resolution graphics mod that someone has come up with. They look great BTW.

Thanks for all of the tips and such, most apprecieted. If you have any other advice to offer pertaining to what I said a sentence above that'd be great. If you can afford it, spend more on your video card. I'd even suggest getting the Nvidia 8800 if you have the bucks. It's a DirectX 10 card so you'd be all ready when the time comes. You should go for at least the 7950 or ATI equivalent, whatever that is. Probably the X1800. All those games you mention

though i have to ask, how did setting up wireless cost $150? wireless routers are about $50, and USB adapters, about $20. when i've set up cable/internet the company (it's been Cox and Time-Warner at different places i've lived) usually charges a smallish setup fee, but the cable modem is provided, and and the setup fee is nothing on the order of $80, more like $30. well, whatever the reason, i don't mean to pry. Actually more like $140 now that I think

Oh yeah, and on top of the time and expense of just getting myself an internet connection, it took me several tries to even get the patch downloaded due to the crappy connection I'm stuck with. My download timed out at least 3 times because my signal dropped. So I have some very good reasons for being pissed off at getting a sub-standard patch. I basically wasted my entire weekend just trying to play this game.

You know, I wouldn't be as frustrated if I didn't have to jump through so many hoops in order to get the game updated in the first place. Like I said, I went out and spent $150 on a wireless rig, specifically so I could connect to the internet and update the game. And after a relatively difficult time getting it up and running, I end up with a patch that has a major bug in it. If I could simply have downloaded a file from the public network I have access to, I'd be feeling a lot more patient. I

Yeah I think it's ram that I need, though I definitly need a new graphics card. All in all, I think I'm going to buy a new PC. Any PC's that anyone recommends for less than $1200? Something decent for gaming and internet. Like, for example the Dell XPS's? I wouldn't go with Dell, they're usually really basic computers. Not all designed with gaming in mind. They definitely don't come with the kind of video card you'll be needing. Go find some local compu

Yes, it's a common issue with patch 1.5.068. We're all waiting for a patch, it should be out any day now. Incidentally, it seems it only affects Gigantic maps.

OK, one more thing. I would like the Galaxy map made bigger, at least twice the size that it is now. Preferably even 3X. It isn't really much bigger that the mini map now, which makes it rather pointless. At least reduce the size of the sector lines, they make it really hard to see anything now.

I just pretend its an immense, frame-shaped nebula I tried my best to ignore it but I just can't do it, especially if I start the game being inside of it. Nor can I go back to the tech trading in the default game, it's just way too easy to gain a technological advantage. Every single game I played I was always way out in front without really having to work at it. It adds more tension to the game if I see another race is ahead of me.

maybe it's time to mix things up a bit by trying a new game setup? if nothing else, it might hold you over until the patch is available. I'm coming from Civilization 4, where I play Huge maps with 11 civs. Even the biggest GalCiv has to offer seems small to me. I just can't see myself stepping down even further.

If you're interested in having totally unique ships, download Kryo's hull mod and design your own. It is the mod for ship design. Between this mod and what comes with DA, the possibilites are virtually limitless.

The bug was fixed in the code. There's a lot of work that goes to turn updated source code into a patch on SDC. OK, so once again I'm a victim of misunderstanding. I'll try and show a little more patience. I'm just irritated because I went through alot of trouble and expense in order to update the game. I went out and spent $150 on a wireless rig, and then it turned to not be an easy install due to various complications. And after all that the game

Yeah I know a decent amount about computers themselves and troubleshooting and such, but not the internal mechanics. Do you know of any specific cards that may work well with my system? Well not knowing what kind of video card slot you have, I can't really say for certain. Though I'm guessing it will be an AGP. If that's the case, you should either go with an Nvidia 7600 or an ATI x800. Those are pretty much the top of the line as far as AGP is concern

if you're brave enough to stomach a slightly smaller galaxy, you should be able to play fine until they release the patch. That's not an option for me, I already find Gigantic to be too small. Especially with 9 races. I'd have to go down to 4 opponents to get the same race/sector ratio as what I've gotten used to. Which is not enough IMO.

I didn't know that your race color changed the color of the circle. I have been playing Terran with the blue, so will try a color change. Thanks a lot for the input! Either did I until I decided to play a custom race. I can uderstand that you'd have trouble with the Terran blue, I did as well. I went with a light brown for my custom race and I had no trouble seeing the circle after that. If you want to continue using blue, try a lighter s

The patch is being worked on--the devs have no intent of leaving everyone hanging. According to a statement by Kryo, they already finished working on it last week. So how difficult can it be to post it on Stardock so we can download it?

42 Replies 16,553 Views

Yes, this is known bug. Supposedly it has already been fixed, we're just waiting for Stardock to get around to posting it so we can actually play our games again.

Also, just how much of a planet has to be inside of the colored radius for it to get the benifit? Well if you're seeing a coloured radius, that's how large the area of effect an Influence base is going to have. It might take a few modules to really make a difference in the other race's borders, but it's not going have any impact outside of that radius. So you've basically answered your own question.

So I'm still rather new to modding GC2... I noticed that when creating new ship styles, only ship templates created with the same race/style will show up. So, I'm trying to make a ship style that contains all ship hulls. In other words, I want this style to be able to use all templates regardless of the race that template was based on. Any idea how that could be done? Get Kryo's hull mod. With that installed, you have acces to all the hulls and

Based on my experience go with the RAM upgrade. That will also help your PC's performance in general, which is always good. If that doesn’t quite do the trick consider upgrading your video card ($79 is actually a great price for a 256MB video card). Hydro I wouldn't recommend the 7300. It might be good enough for Dark Avatar, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth for any other games that are coming out these days. That's why it's only $7
