Good point. Thalans have bad soldiering. Lets see here. Stock pile a reserve of troop transports (as mentioned above). Tech trade for soldiering techs (not always possible, either tech trading is off, or the AI fears you too much). Ah ha! Pay 2 opponents to fight each. They will send troops to try to destroy each. They will lose troops in invasion attempts, in defense of their worlds, and untold numbers in ship battles. Once one looks weak, you strike. While the 2 are

Glad you like mightgoobi. I'm going to start playing every civ again to make sure my guide works well. That, and add in a few more details, like the answer to your question. Now off to play a game.

If you need help, tyr looking at my TA 101 strategy guide I wrote: [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/310907"]TA 101[/link] My objective for that guide is to ease the transition from DA to TA. To that end, I make a few comments about what I think is useful to know, and what to consider using. If you want to know more after that, go read another strategy guide... or better yet, experiment for yourself.

@ MrKorx I don't know if you are agreeing with me, or argueing against me right now. I see 2 techs of that appear to have the same TechID string length (can't be sure since the display name and TechID can be different), and as such they sort between each other using a different method, alphabetically. Any ways, I think I've found a few anomolies in my theory. Since I'm currently interested figuring out how the tech tree sorts itself, I'll be checking them out. I'll post back wi
I'm not convinced, the ordering is by string length. It would narrow the choises of tech_id string--shortest first.
Why shortest TechID string first? Longest works just as well.
Has anybody tried, if reordering the technodes in the xml affects the display?
The OP already mentioned that it didn't seem to work. I too tried such a thing myself, and it had no effect. I was using a completely custom tech tree (I wrote everything) at th

I did a test, and it sorted the techs I made in this order: Longest -- 7 chars Shorter -- 7 chars (I guess not shorter after all) Short -- 5 chars 1 2 3 A B C --__ ---- Since the last 2 entries were pushed to the bottom despite being longer, I guess that longest to top isn't a perfect solution. Despite the flaw, its still possible to predict how, and arrange the tech tree using "Longest first" as a guide line. Sorting alphabetica

Lets see if I can list 5 things 1. Yor economy needs improvements The Yor have a *horible* economy. Because their economic planet improvement "Efficiency Center" (Internal name) has a build limit of 1 per planet, the Yor don't get much income. The only other structure they can use is the "Recruiting center", but its also a 1 per planet improvement. The net result is, I consider never researching collective techs, and leaving planet tiles empty the only practically way to pl

It looks like the length of the tech ID appears to be deciding factor. The longest seems to go on top. I'm not sure if I should be surprised I noticed th

There, I've made an update to the guide. Looking now, I didn't quite get all you (some of you posted while I was making changes). I got up to reply #6. Don't you worry, I'll add more latter.

I haven't done as extensive testing with ship components as others have, but I do know that custom capacity modules (colony and troop modules) will not launch from a planet. They otherwise function normally. You may want to make a list of parts and stuff that doesn't work, and why it doesn't. Once the list is made, try to present it to the devs. They are going to be working on version 2.0 at some point.

Like I said, if you have any comments or questions, post a reply. I, or another helpful player, will try to help you out if you need it. I'll be watching this post for a while...

Note: This guide was written for v2.04. The current version is v2.20. There have been some changes since then, many of them were contributions from members of our player base. So some details in this guide are now obsolete. I haven't spent the time to figure out what changed and add them to my guide, so readers beware. This guide was written to serve as an introductory guide to TA, as many people at the time this guide was first written were having t

Then again, I play with minors off so I might have never seen anything like this. That and TA has been only recently been released
2) A religious faction is questing to open a dim

They do this with ships that have fleet attack boost modules. I was unaware that fleet warp bubbles had the same effect. If I have access to fleet warp bubbles, I would either install fleet attack boost modules on those ships as well (to make it a command ship of sorts) designing it for a more defensive role, or build them as escort ships for my troop transport. Either way, I would expect those ships to be destroyed first givin their roles. As for attack fleet warp bubbles, my

I think the techs are sorted by tech ID and prerequisites. I don't know of any way of how to control how the techs shows up in game. I don't think it has been a concern for the devs. If you research 'Xeno Ethics' and pick good, you will see several bonus defense techs show up causing the defense techs to get twisted and warped. Point defense continues to be strait, but both armour and shields drop down to go around their bonus techs. Suffice to say, its a mess. It might be wort
I like the race specific techs but they lose their purpose(which is to give each race a different "playstyle/feel" compared to each other) if you can just trade your way to the techs from the ai.
Not all techs can be traded/stolen. If you open up the tech tree editor, you should see the options to disable tech stealing, and tech trading for a given tech.
So what we plan to do this week (probably tomorrow) is do a minor cleaning house update on anything that might have gotten "left behind".
I think the 'Efficiency Center' planet improvement needs a look at. It has a placement limit of 1. As such, the Yor can only expect to build only 2 economy structures, the 'Efficiency Center' and the 'Recruiting Center'. Every other civ can freely spam whatever economic structures they naturally get. If the Yor want to build mo
The first thing I did after installing Twilight of the Arnor was to use the TechTree Editor. I quickly noticed that if you add as little as ONE technology in an existing TechTree the game crashes. However it seems to work fine if you make a compleatly new TechTree, but that is very time consuming. Has anyone else had this problem?
I'm not sure if its the same one I've noticed, but if you open up a tech tree using the editor, you might notice that the first tech i

You might want to try Stardock Central instead of Impulse. As I understand, Impulse has a few bugs to work out. In the mean time, you could probally copy the folder from your notebook to your main computer to make things work.

For me, the download speeds were about what I would expect on days that weren't very busy. If you were to ask me about what services to add, I would been more likely to say "How about you set aside some space on the forums so we may upload files, pictures, and other stuff without having to rely on another website like Image Shack to do this stuff." than to to say "Increase the download speeds of SDC.". However, it would appear that many others appreciate the faster download spe
