-8 megs of ram -No sound card That was a long time ago. Looking at some of the pictures, you can tell that some of the races recieved a make over at some point in time. By the way, Stardock Systems even claims that if you can beat the game at its hardest level (five alien civilizations, all set to 'Incredible!', and 'Evil') they will re-write the AI to beat you at your own strategy and provide an update for free. This is something I don't thin

Dear Cari_Elf Could you please update your moding guide for Dark Avatar. Your guide was writen before the expansion was released, and thus, it does not have all of the new details such as planet types listed. This is the one I'm talking about. https://www.galciv2.com/mods/gc2modsdoc.htm Please and thanks. DivineWrath

I don't think there is any specific guide to moding Dark Avatar... yet. Until then, you might want to check this link. https://www.galciv2.com/mods/gc2modsdoc.htm It was made for Dread Lords ver 1.2, so its out of date, but it should help until there is an updated guide.

O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! What a wonderful surprise. You caught me completely off guard. I logged into SDC, as I do about this time every day, and, there it was. All I can say, is- Bravo! I too was caught by surprise. Here I was considering reducing the frequency that I read these forums. I'm downloading right now. Don't expect to hear from me for the next few days.

I'm also another player who disagrees with your strategy. I say, the best offense is a good defense. I win most of my games by either influence, or diplomacy victory. By possesing a powerful defensive military, the other races will not dare attack you, even if you are spamming influence in their territory. Edit: -------- Don't let the fact that we disagree with your strategy intimidate you. You might have a good point.

I agree that many different abilities are quite powerful if used correctly. The +50% military bonus would work well with the colony rush if combined with something like the PQ improving ability. That combination would not only get you more planets quicker, but also make those you do get even better.

DirectX 10 will only work on Windows Vista, its too much for Windows XP. So, it would be a stupid idea to program a game that only works with DirectX 10 for the moment. To do so would prevent most gamers from being able to play the expansion, thus denying the devs a significant share of the PC game market. I hope this clears things up.

I agree that there should be a game guide for GalCiv 2 that is at least as good as the civilization series have. I prefer the Civ III format myself. Anyhow, the wiki can be seen on the front page. Just click Home on the top left of this page, or click the link I've provided below. Wiki link

GalCiv 2 doesn't have cloaking, or nebulas... yet. There are two reasons why they don't. First: Sardock is a small company. They can't afford to program every program in possible feature. Second: Even if stardock were to program in every possible feature, there will most likely be problems. There is game that has every feature you can think of. Its called Space Empires V. The problem is, it has about as much bugs as it does features. In addition to that, I haven't seen

I'll provide some advice. #1: Economics are life: This can't be stressed enough. If you are having trouble economically, you are going to have trouble with nearly every other aspect of the game. Since you are new, I strongly suggest you invest your ability points by first maxing out economics, then morale, followed by population growth in that order. This will provide you with the raw economic power you need to better survive against the other races. #2: Keep your enemies c

I'll help answer this one. Cultural conquest is my favorite method for victory. Heres what you need to know to get started. 1. Cultural victory can't occur if the race in question is at war with someone else. I think only major races apply to this restriction, but I could be wrong. I don't often play with minor races since they can't be culture flipped. 2. I'm sure you are already aware of the fact you need to increase your influence to over 4x the influence of the planet that

I believe that the diplomacy option of declaring war was introduced in Dark Avatar expansion. If you are playing any version before it, you probally going to have to give your opponent a bloody nose first.

DivineWrath, Your explaination is all well and good, but I thought armor was to defend against mass drivers, right? So when I am using missiles against their armor, I understood the defensive value was the square root of the value, thus 4 instead of 16 on those ships. Can you explain how a defensive value of 4 can stop a 15 point missile attack for next to no damage

The combat system has changed in Dark Avatar. Let me explain: 1. Luck affects minimum damage. If you were to have a luck score of 20, and a ship with an attack of 10, the ship will deal 2 points of damage in combat (10 x 0.2 = 2). This is assumes no defenses, otherwise defenses will apply (see below). 2. Each weapon a ship has provides it with 1 attack per turn. So if a ship had 3 weapons, it would be able to fire up to 3 shots. Normally a ship will fire all of its shots at once, bu

1. Build up a larger military than them. They will be a lot nicer once they realize that you can blow them to bits. 2. Improve your diplomacy score. You can research techs to raise your score (Most yellow techs). There are also some structures that you can build to raise this score as well.

I've played Rome: Total War, and it quickly made me sick of tactical combat. I actually enjoy the fact that GalCiv 2 has no tactical combat. I would even go so far as to consider that a feature. A game you can play without having to worry about tactical combat. GalCiv 2 is a nice shelter against it.

Interesting post. Its nice to read a game that a player takes the time and effort to make interesting. I'll check up later once you have posted more. P.S. Keep up the good work.

I've played Rome: Total War, and I'm still sick of all of those tactical battles. I quite happy that GalCiv 2 doesn't have all those tactical battles. Its a game that provides me with some fun while allowing me to recover. Plus, its nice to have a game where you don't have to worry about tactical battles, and only worry about the strategic parts of the game.
