I think the point is that the ability to build henchmen is very powerful - immortal troops that if babysat for a few levels can outstrip most troops. Influence is the limiting factor - if you have henchmen you probably should need to sacrifice those 2 points for Heroic AND probably another point for wanderlust for quest maps (unless you get lucky and get set near another civ that has wanderlust and can buy from them). I've gotten away with not taking wanderlust

True, I go for Sol's balanced approach. I pick the best production + essence spots, as long as food is 2+ its fine, and take a look around. I'll usually have the one roaming army to start - sov, 1st champ and whatever else I can get (beastlord, summons, etc). If lucky there will be the weak quests for panca archers or spearmen. That means I can usually only clear one direction at a time. I'll clear the easy mobs aroun

I think I attempted to update the coredefs file and increase (actually reduce) the setting for random events at the highest configuration setting. I believe default was 5000 and I made it 2000, so that should be slightly more than half the time - I've seen a few more, this last game I've actually had 2 which was very cool. Gauntlets of power and 'kitty'. Think i'll update it a bit more. I have always like the "3 choices" appro
Fighting Resoln is very annoying now. Guess this is an "indirect" buff to accuracy skills
Ha, good point. I'm slightly more impressed by my dodgers. I had a few actually survive a couple battles. Militia is still terrible understandeably - but my dodgey monks were very useful in terms of holding the battle. So I could have a 9v9 and against the AI you can easily block a few mobs with

A similar instance happened when I was messing around with a bunch of mods - at that point I re-installed. This time I started a new game this afternoon, got ~50 turns into it and closed it down. Went to re-open tonight and it keeps crashing on load. No intermediate changes. It seems to load - I can see my sov's army, and the terrain - but everything is dark. Then it crashes. Debug, save, and previous autosave are included in li

Going to try it, just had a game that was working perfectly fine this morning and afternoon fail to load tonight. Seems it mostly loads - I see units/background all dark and then it just stops and hangs. If I can I'll attach debug.err - lots of stuff in there, can't really tell what's important. https://www.dropbox.com/s/it438k1mkvrsrai/121612_0833PM_debug.err

I could follow along with that - simpler is usually more ideal. I also like solutions that can be built upon. Most of the suggestions sound good, its just a matter of implementation. I do agree that horses are currently very valuable for the cost and could be looked at.

Yeah, so far I'm pretty underwhelmed with the cheap dodgers. They seem to get hit an awful lot for having 50 damage and other than dodge they really don't have any other damage mitigation. The supporting bows are weak against anything with defense and the staffs aren't packing enough of a punch to knock out most mobs before a crit lands. The +3 on kill for them is a bit nice as well - at least for trash mobs. My troops are essentially tras

I'm a level/luck away from contagion. Not sure I have dirge. Custom cheesy race: Wraith, vuln to magic, master scout, enchanters, binding, lucky. Think that's it. Lack of mobility really bugs me - so master scout is a default Enchanters is surprisingly powerful - scrying pools and even the +dodge staffs +dodge from lucky is good synergy Binding is surprisingly useful on "dense" magic, I'm sure it would be much les

For a start - I just want to the end game AI to use all mounted units like we do :) Then when we're all on the same page, make it so that mounted stuff is valued properly (mobility and power) and the AI then treats it properly (after having everything on a horse, realizing it will beggar itself if it does it when costs go up). Bummer on a required trait - that in and of itself would add some level of cost.

If there is something where you can say - if unit has trait A and has an Axe - do "blah" If that exists you may be able to accomplish what I think your goals are on a global level and leave it to unit design There currently seem to be the miscellaneous group (i.e. weak, scout), defensive group, and offensive group of traits. You could make an equipment group of traits - if shield equiped AND defensive trait selected, then THIS trait gives a "shield bash" counterstrike
I will have to see what I can work out for mounted units for cost wise. Graphic wise I am very limited in mod regards to what is already in game and barely at that. Still I agree that there should be a tertiary mounted horse unit. The problem with this is that you also have to consider wargs and where do they fit in as both empire and kingdoms can use either so wargs need to fit somewhere in the equation. so something

So I've played a bit more on my dodgy wraiths. I think its powerful, and may need to recant my stance on overpowered. I've taken lately to just keeping my faction up enough to avoid a dogpile, and focus on mobility and exploration. I've got about 8 cities, about mid way through the civ tech and 1/3 through warfare and 1/4 through magic - Masons, mounted/blacksmithing, tireless march. 1 dedicated fortress with 3 essence now starting to pump o

Will I still be able to end up with a Lucky, master scout, enchanter with binding? If so, go for it. If not, meh. If other options are sub par, they should be buffed rather than nerfing everything else. Other than being reactionist with all these recent nerf posts, I actually agree. More granularity = more flexibility = more replayability = good. With that said, there is something to be said for a base level of simplicity and clarity.&

Could it be tied to the fact that all vanilla are single unit vs MA's multi entity units? That's the thing that really jumped out at me when the first 5k stack threatened...5 sets of 4!

Yeah, I kind of see that you have a list of classes - but not sure what the point is yet. You say there will be a separate list of classes and inventory, but not really why. Why will the AI use them any better if its coded to existing logic? Abstracting out for the sake of discussion - the below list may not encompass all useability Melee Light_Militia, Mediu
My suggestions for Infantry/Cavalry distinctions would be as follows: Increased support costs for horse/warg mounted units (reflecting the costs of feeding and taking care of horses/wargs.) After all, horses and wargs need food too. Spears should get combat bonuses vs mounted units (this would make spears more useful.) Accuracy penalty for Mounted/Mage archer units unless they get some

FYI - I played vanilla a bunch, liked it. I then played MA a bunch, liked it. I then played stormworld a bunch, liked it. With the new release I'm replaying vanilla to try out wraiths. I really miss all the mod features - how badly would it break stormworld to play a custom wraith faction? I actually don't think it will break it at all - but want to check. HF - have you played MA much? Have you considered adopting some of the custom Sov choi

I think there is a whole separate forum for it - https://forums.elementalgame.com/forum/1009 Personally I'm against it. Balancing for multiplayer is a) a lot of work b) a never ending battle c) makes fun stuff boring

Curious if the change to heroic influence and increased cost of quest map makes it terribly cumbersome to do the quest loop. And personally, again, not everything needs to be balanced. Yes the quest loop was wildly overpowered, but its also pretty boring. It was fun the first time, but then the process really lost its appeal. Good point on the equipment though - I don't think a newly created henchmen should actually get the tradeable items if that is possible.&
