If you would like to move this thread to the Core, that's fine with me. Bravo Evil, for posting your losses as well as your victories. I just checked the stats of the top three empires: 2907 wins, 89 losses. My as*. I believe the EoS to be above that type of hypocrisy. I don't set the parameters of the game just to be able to get a victory with a high score. I could set things up so that I could win every game if I wanted to. I set the game up to be challenging, entertaining, and intellectuall

How do I go about starting and posting a game there? Are people allowed to play/post with mods?
Thanks for the quick reply. Repairing ships at a starbase makes perfect sense. I'll be focusing on meta games for awhile, so modding is out. Any chance this feature will be activated in a patch?
Does anyone know the formula for calculating experience during ship combat, and has this changed since DL? Also, a quote from the manual: nearby starbases with repair bays accelerate their rate of repair. I don't find a specific tech for this. Is this a function of any starbase?
Yes, the only place these ships can go is 'home'. After, you can do with them as you like. The same thing happens if one of your ships hits a wormhole, and is transported out of range. A little annoying, perhaps, but nothing you can do about it.
placed two agents on the home world of Yor. After several turns I discovered that I cannot access the planet. I Were you at war with the Yor at the time? And what was your intelligence level with them?
Defense has not been 'nerfed', per se. The absorption, size, and cost of the various modules are precisely where they were in DL. What has changed, is the combat system. In DA, the attacker has double, quadruple, or more chances to degrade your defenses. The greater number of 'rolls of the dice' will give a greater chance of a negative outcome. I thought defense, if anything, was overpowered in DL Not so much overpowered, as underutilized. Th
The reasoning behind nerfing defense? For the longest time, the most common opinion on the boards was that defense was a waste of resources. Offense was everything. These opinions were based on small ship stats, and in that context, they were correct. Without defenses, a fleet of tiny ships could wear down the largest dreadnought. There were those of us, however, that recognized the value of defense, and used this to our advantage. A dreadnought with e
go into the xml file and change the '2' into a '4' Which xml file are you referring to, and what, exactly would it change?
The game, much like life, is what you make of it, OA. If you choose to play it out as a comparison of cold statistics, then that is the experience you will have. If, however, you are willing to unclench your sphincter, and invest some part of your emotional self into it, you can have a much more enriching experience. Have you ever read any of the AAR's? There is passion there. This game is very much like chess. They both begin the same, and end the same; the interesting part is in the middle-
habitat improvement It will allow you to build on tiles that were previously unusable. miniturization I allows you to make ship components smaller, so that you can fit more of them on a certain size hull. Very useful. I do not know what many of the techs will do. There is a small, third-party program that will allow you to see all of the information that you are asking
The templates have been updated, and are more race-specific. A very nice update. Also, there are many more pieces of 'jewelry' available to make your ships even more unique. If you are asking whether or not you can use your DL ship templates in DA, the answer, I believe, is yes; you will have to manually move them, however. There are posts on the forum which give the directions for doing so. "this particular cheese could melt into the fabric of our gam
You need to prioritize your choices. Decide what your strategy will be, and focus on the techs needed to get there. The AI will be doing the same, and if you simply slog your way up the tree, then you will soon find yourself hopelessly behind.
You build mines on asteroids, and they 'beam' resources to the planet of your choice. You can research tech and upgrade them to make them more efficient. An upgraded asteroid field of three mines can yield 60 resource points per turn. Now, if 1 resource point = 1 industrial point, then that is the equivalent of 5 industrial sectors. Not bad. Remember though, that the farther away from the target planet the field is, the less resources actually make it there. Mines can be culture flipped, just a
Don't bother. They are all underpowered, and aren't useful at all, except perhaps in the very early game. Design your own. You can do much better yourself, besides which, it can be a heck of a lot of fun. Check out the stickied post about ship designs to get some idea of what you can do. Good gaming.
I'm sorry guys. I started a DL game just before DA went gold. I was doing well, so decided to continue. I wanted to make my first posted game something special. I rocked. But I updated to 1.5 during the game, and when I won, I got a 'buffer overrun' message. This had never happened to me in any previous version. Quelle surprise. Veni, vici, vidi, buffer overrun. I'm going to take a 'leap of faith', and start a DA game. Hopefully things will turn out differently this time. If they don't, I'm g
Has anyone else had the AI try to attack your freighters when you have Galactic Privateer? Many times. I used to think that this was rather funny; a fleet of battlecruisers following a single minifreighter back and forth along it's route. I didn't expect DA to still have this problem. Neither did I. The GP are a group of hired guns that are very good at escorting freighters. I don't have a problem with the A
Will do. Thanks.
I just completed what I thought to be my first metaverse game. I began it in 1.4x, and completed in 1.5. (DL). It was a military victory. The military victory movie plays, but when it ends, I get the buffer overrun message, and can't post to the meta. I have tried everything I can think of, but I always get the same message. I have sent off a smart exception, and have a savegame, which reproduces the problem. Any ideas? This is the first time that I have experienced this particular problem.
What, did real life get in the way of wasting time at your PC? Sorry all. I lost a cook, and had to cover his shifts. Maps I generally play large maps, for the reasons GW stated. I've had some interesting experiences with smaller maps, one of which I will post about. (When I finish my first E of S game, of course.) <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" bo

Even the potential of doing so will make the civ in question give you the 'stink eye'. Civs becoming increasingly more paranoid towards you to the point of doing something about it. In every influence type game that I have played, when a civ sees that it is in danger of losing the
Actually, they're supposed to be intelligently chosen to shake things up... Yes, I believe that there are certain sets of circumstances that will trigger the events. Pirates are much meaner I just had a game and a Minor race came in and wiped out 8 colonies The most common comment about the Pirates! used to be that they were underpowered. That same money would support 20 decked out warships Yes, that's true. But you have to remember that military ships have a maintenance cost that is approximately 3% of their original cost (in industrial units). That is, a ship that cost 100 IUs will take approximately 3 billion credits each week to maintain. A large fleet is a serious drain on your economy. That money could be spent elsewhere. Your spies just sit there waiting; little neutron bombs in
Yes, I am sad to admit, that the 'Dread Lords' no longer evokes any dread in me whatsoever. Rather, I look forward to this event with eager anticipation- a pq-0 is now a pq13+ or so, ripe for the picking.
