2Mistralok: I won't whine if the AI gets fixed. Perhaps I was a bit harsh. I have read many posts along these lines, and yours just happened to be the one that finally put me over the edge. The AI is already much better than it is in DL, and Frogboy is working very hard to get things just right. Have a little faith. I think that you will be in

You don't need an agent to look at a planet. Just click the 'spy' button. This only works if you are at peace with that race. When at war, a high rating is needed. I'm pretty sure the AI can see you as well. We have always been able to see a planet, the difference now, is, it's free.
: how are production and population of a planet linked? Production costs money, population makes money.
Robert A. Heinlein I can still remember spending the night in the cabbage with Willis.
Reveal information? Steal tech? This is all you can do in 1.4x. In DA, espionage is greatly expanded, giving you the ability to sabotage production facilities. What do the bravery and creative race picks really do? </
First, turn up the difficulty level. At the lower levels, the AI just sits there and drools. You should be playing at 'tough' or above. Next, do as the above posters have suggested, and use the intensive algorithms. Finally, download DA as soon as it is released, so that I can tell you to turn DOWN the difficulty level, when you whine about how hard the game is.
Tennekis, you don't give any specifics. If we can determine how you got into this situation, then we could give suggestions about how to keep it from happening in the first place. The most common cause is low morale. Keep your people happy, and they will be less likely to rebel. Everything that DethAdder said will certainly help after the fact, but it is much easier to stop the rot before it begins.
The first appearance of intelligent, alien insectoids, was in H.G. Well's "The First Men in the Moon", published in 1901. He called them 'Selenites'; they lived in a hive society in an extensive tunnel system beneath the Moon's surface. It was made into a movie in 1964 which I highly recommend seeing. Ray Harryhausen handled the special effects, (for any of his fans out there.)
Has anyone found an easy way to know what your current intelligence level against a target it? Sorry, Malekish, just noticed this one. Yes, there is. In 'Foreign Relations', view the report on whichever race you are curious about. It will tell you in there.
You are welcome, Scintor. I do see what you mean, but I'm sorry- I don't have an answer for your problem. Perhaps someone else can help. Good luck.
Hello, Kinzman. Here is a link to the GalCiv Wiki page that illustrates the various tile bonuses. The wiki can also be accessed via the 'Databanks' tab. WWW Link There is a wealth of information there. Good luck.
I play on a rig I built awhile back. It has an AMD 3000+ Barton, and I haven't noticed any real difference in loading times. The difference in the AI, however, is amazing. It's like a new game. Thanks, Frogboy, for all the hard work. I just want you to know that I really appreciate your efforts.
Nope. Multiple web links still don't work. Scintor, highlight and copy the address of the pic. Click the 'insert web link' tab. Paste the address into the box, and click 'ok'. I tried to post both of them at the same time, with the above result. Mumble posted on this problem a while ago. I will revisit that post and see if anything came of it. [Edit] Revisited post- no resolution to the prob. Here is the second link. W

If you knew the AI had the potential for backstabbing you, you would start dropping spy ships near or inside it's borders. If the AI started to marshal fleets, you would respond by gathering your own. Absolutely right, Purge. This is the way we, or any other competent player would react. This is my point. If I had to play like this, I wouldn't
Y'know what? I don't, but my grandfather did. He played baseball. Second base, I believe, during the 1940s. I think you should have to spy on an enemy to learn how they feel about you. Humans ar
Hi Jerod. Yep, the Pirates! can be a real pain in the neck. I get them in pretty much every game I play, (at least it seems that way), and yes, I have seen results similar to those you describe. What may be causing your confusion is a simple lack of information. Any race that is created is given certain starting bonuses. I suspect that the Pirates! receive them also. A bonus in attack, or defense, or Luck, even, would make battles turn out much differently than you expect. Of course, there is no
Scintor, you didn't do anything wrong. As GW has stated, this is a known issue. It has been awhile since I have played DL, but if I remember correctly, it only applies to the way the influence borders are drawn in the minimap, and doesn't actually affect gameplay. Also, if memory serves, the problem should resolve itself after a turn or so. Again, it has been awhile, so if I have made any mistakes, someone please correct me. One more thing; try to zoom in/out of the minimap. This may force it to
The AI can, and will, decide to go to war with a civ with which it has friendly relations. I spent the majority of my last game having warm, even friendly relations with the Korath. If we didn't have the common border, they may have even reached close. After many turns at warm, our relations began to suddenly drop. I hadn't done anything that I can think of to cause this- believe me, I really didn't want to antagonize THEM. The first turn, warm to neutral. The next turn, neutral to cool. And so
Any suggestions My first suggestion would be to use the 'search' function at the top of the page. Had you done that, and typed in 'alliances', you would have been directed to a full page of posts on the subject. Here is a link to one from 2 DAYS AGO. WWW Link
Is there a slightly higher-res version that's a bit more clear? It's tough to read the names of some of that stuff. You can zoom in and out using your mouse wheel. Zoom in to read, and out to get to a far branch quickly.
just wonder if they're there only to take up space? Mostly. They will sometimes become habitable. Minor races will spawn from time to time, and use one, as will the Dread Lords when/if they appear. There is at least one event that causes one to become usable to the player or one of the other major races. (voted on in the UP)
Does spying eventually stop if everybody is spy swatting? If a civ's economy is in trouble, it will no longer be able to afford to train spies, and so yes, it will stop. (for that particular civ) Any agents already trained/placed will still be available for use.
Excellent post, Nyame. The stories are one of the best parts of the game.
I haven't even played the Dread Lords campaign yet. Is it worth playing at all or should I continue to give it a "pass"? The campaign is a good learning tool. Most of the skills you need to be successful are illustrated in there. It has been a long time since I played those scenarios, but I remember a couple that were challenging. Give it a try.
