I've had the Turn button dissapear before. I don't recall exactly, but I think it was because I was trying to make a ship do something it's not supposed to do, like a transport with no weapons trying to invade a defended planet. I've fixed it by either correcting the condition or restarting the game from the last save.

You can't really blow off the resource mining starbases. You pretty much *have* to add all the mining modules to them. It makes a big difference in your ratings and has a significant impact on the game. One thing you can do to help keep track of starbases is to use the planet/ship list. There's a selection for showing starbases. It shows all of them in the universe, but since there's usually not too many of them, it's not hard to click through and check on your own. It would be gre

The bug is that I get the message going from Friendly to Close, but it doesn't show up in the foreign relations screen. That's exactly my gripe about alliances. When you are friendly with a race and they tell you they are improving relations, they should do what they say and move relations to close. Otherwise, what's the point of them saying it in

I've disbanded colonies before. I don't do it often, but mainly when I don't want a planet for some reason and don't want another race to use it. Most of the time, I just throw a few stock markets on those low PQ planets I commandeer. They do make some money so it's worthwhile. It's more productive than destroying them. In any case, it's good to have the option. It can be useful sometimes.

I don't often seek peace. Once I get into a war, I usually take it to the end. However, the few times I've tried to seek peace, it's always cost me a lot. I don't understand how a race can seek compensation on my part after I've just whittled them down to a handful of planets the previous turn. They should be paying me for it. In any case, if I really want peace, I always have to pay through the nose for it.

I think there's a big difference between a typo here and there and poor use of the language. The typos I can get through, but when people make almost incomprehensible posts, that's somewhat irritating. Aside from people using English as a second language, I really wonder how some people can write so poorly. Anyway, the OP is about hotseat, but the thread has wandered into the topic of multiplayer in general. I think the problem is hotseat has many of the same design hurdles to get

I'll try the double click thing. I wasn't actually aware the double click was active in the project list, but I do prefer single click actions. I still feel this should be corrected. Sometimes selections in the project list are sticky and sometimes they are not. Inconsistencies in the user interface are generally a bad thing. They should be corrected out of principle at least.

Hehe, I bet the developers will do it just to stop seeing threads about it the forum. They're pretty sick of reading about it, obviously. It doesn't really matter *what* the poles indicate. It simply boils down to whether Stardock feels the investment is worthwhile. They may do it, they may not. We'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, we should probably quit making posts about. Don't want to piss off the cook you know. Of course, making this post isn't helping <img src="http://

I always play with the luck bonus. In my current game, my home planet started with one 700% manufacturing bonus and one 100% manufacturing bonus. That was sweet. I tried playing a game with the 25% luck bonus plus Universalists for a total of +50% luck but didn't seem to notice a difference. I just stick with the +25% bonus.

My desktop system has a fast single core processor, 2.4 GHZ Athlon. My laptop has a slower dual core processor 1.6 GHz Centrino. The game runs just about the same speed on both systems so based on that alone, I would have to say the game is properly utilizing both processor cores on the laptop.

I found building starbases way too tedious and time consuming. So...I don't do it anymore. I build them sparingly and only add the modules I need to increase their effectiveness. To defend them, I put a nice heavly armed fleet underneath them. When you do upgrade a starbase, fleet up your constructors first. Assuming you have all the techs, you can upgrade an influence starbase to fully effective in one fell swoop with a fleet consisting of 11 constructors, 7 for a mining starbase

I don't have a problem with your metaphor. It's pretty obvious, why waste time on small advantages when you have some big ones at your disposal. I often go after tactics that will save time because games can be very long. I'm certainly not going to engage a tactic otherwise.

I've found the game to be my favorite passtime (I mean that literally, when I need to kill time). I put it on my laptop and take it with me when I know I'm going to be waiting around for something. Beats the crap out of reading a magazine. I don't remember exactly when I bought it, but it's been several months and I'm still playing like crazy. It's hands-down the best value I've received for my money of any video game I've ever purchased. I'll buy it again when DA comes out. On th

There are two categories of game for me, those that are mindless like FPS and those that require some thought like TBS. For me, each one has its place. It just depends on what I'm in the mood for. So, it would be hard for me to give FPS a 1 and TBS a 5. They both have value for me. Sometimes FPS is a 5 and sometimes TBS is a 5.

I think that sounds reasonable, if DA sells well, they may release another expansion that adds MP. It's really about the resources, not whether the game needs it or not. MP is never a bad thing to have. It's just that's it's an expensive feature. The sales have to be there to justify it. I wouldn't expect Stardock to go into the red to satisfy what appears to be a minority of customers that want it over any other additions or improvements.

I love all that stuff in this game. It's just so rewarding to trump the AI with some cheesy tactic. One of my favorites is the Sensors cheese. Just hold off on trading any sensors with the races until you have all the diplomacy stuff. Then hit 'em all with the 4 and rake in the techs. Tech shopping is so fun. I also enjoy the resources cheese. Park a constructor next to a resource and wait for the race's enemy to destroy it. Or, if you're in a hurry, add a warship and h

Selections in a planet's project list sometimes fail to stick after the build button is pressed. This requires re-selection of the project every time. When building a lot of high class planets, I find myself really wishing that selections would stick. They do sometimes, but not always and there doesn't seem to be a pattern. Please fix it so projects like factories and labs stay selected after the build button is pushed. My wrist will appreciate it. Thanks for your consideration.

I do get them, but generally, only after I've got a high diplomacy rating and have a stronger military. No one seems to be able to say exactly what factors make a race decide to form the close relations required. In any case, if you aren't seeing close relations at all, it's probably because your diplomacy and/or military are too weak. I haven't found anything else to have any effect. In several attempts, I've set up all my trade routes with a race and failed to see relations move to close.

I rarely get the "out of memory" error, but I always see the high memory consumption. It's easy to duplicate, just set up a game with a gigantic universe and everything on abundant. Once you have a couple hundred planets, start grabbing more in an invasion and watch the memory consumption, it will just keep going up and up. After several hours of this, it will use it all. It doesn't happen when doing other things, just when acquiring new planets in an invasion. Also, I play on both

Though I'm a newbie to strategy 4x games, I find the initial colony rush to be the most exciting part of the game, well at least in GC2. No complaints here, but I suppose if you've been playing this type of game for years, it would get a bit cliche.

Here's what I think is happening and it does this in 1.31 as well. During invasions, the game is doing something in memory that duplicates instances of itself. Since I'm merely a user and have no knowledge of the game code, I don't know exactly what that is. In any case, it first consumes all of the physical memory and then consumes all of the virtual memory. Attempting to save the game results in an "out of memory" error. Since the game erases the older save file before failing in its attem

If they do add MP to GC2 someday, I'd be real interested to see the implementation, but probably would not play online or LAN. I imagine a game where multiple players take turns simultaneously would be quite interesting. I don't think I could handle playing more than one strategy game. They're just too time consuming. Until I'm done with GC2, I won't be buying any other strategy games. And, DA is coming which is going to breathe even more life into an already long lived game. I t

I've never seen *any* race end up different than their "natural" alignment. I would guess they end up that way because it part of their design. Yea, I think so. As soon as they get Xeno Ethics, they always pick the same alignment regardless of anything else. I stated this in another thread and someone disagreed with me so I figured I better not say
