On the planetary assault screen you will see both sides, how many troops each has, and fluctuating numbers. The numbers will continue until you begin your assault hitting the attack button once. Some people buy their colony ships right out of the gate. A pretty decent strategy. Others tend to buy their factories on their home world and then build the industrial capital to increase the production rate. I personally mix the two strategies. I think this event was possibly introduced due to the games original intent. I believe I read somewhere on these forums that Brad Wardell never really intended for ships to reach the incredible speeds that players have hit during game play. I think he said that the original AI was built around the average speed of about 8 parsecs a week. Therefore, the AI should be much more formidable at these lower speeds making the games much more difficult to win at higher levels of play. I perso

Terrans invented hyperdrive and so get to tell all those dirty smelly inferior aliens how to make their maps. Ah this may be true, but read into the story a little bit more. Most of the major players in the game were space faring long before the humans invented the wheel. Which means they charted space for themselves first. The only reason the lame Terrans even invented hyperdrive was because the Torians had sent them the schematics to build a stargate.
