Upgrading with every new tech is absolutely unneccesary! One of the challenges of the game is to research in a smart way, thinking ahead. You research *ahead* of your opponents, create a powerful ship and build a fleet of those ships. While building this fleet and using it, you research new military and non-military stuff and when other factions are starting to counter your weapons you're ready to build new craft often more than twice as powerful as the previous design. In mos

This is a graph I made with Matlab of the averages and their standard deviations. We wanted to know if there's a difference between experienced ships and rookie ships regarding damage inflicted (first two bars) and the difference between experienced ships and rookie ships ragarding damage received (last two bars). Even though the variables were not really normally distributed (bell shaped), I believe the

Exellent, thanks for making the effort! However, it is now 19:30 in the Netherlands, and I can't access my statistics program at work from my home computer, so I won't be able to compute any results until tomorrow afternoon. (actually, with this few samples you could calculate the results by hand, but the computer program gives additional info and graphs I would like to see as well). <table cellpadding=8 width="95%" align=center bgcolor=#FFF394 class="mb-Body-Quote-Ta

I'd go with an experienced and inexperienced ship of a single type. This is very important, the ships must be the same type, the only difference must be their experience. I agree also with Mumblefratz's other suggestions.

if I have a problem I'll im you if thats all right) Sure, no problem 1) Build ships that do not have overwhelming attack values 2) Ditch the kill attack. Yes <table cellpadding=8 widt

I've a question about planet specialization. I've heard from various places that it no longer works in v1.31. Is this true? I don't agree with this, sure specialization works in v1.31. Maybe big pop planets are harder now. I don't have any numbers to back this up, but some of the Galciv II number-crunchers could probably provide some examples.<br

Just post the numbers and I'll run a test with my statistics software (SPSS). What I'll need looks something like this: Rookieship: Advancedship: Attack Damage Attack Damage 1. x1 x1 x1 x1 2. x2 x2 x2 x2 3. x3 x3 x3 x3 4. .. .. .. .. n. xn xn xn xn Where all the x's are numbers. From this table the total number of samples can be dete

Yep. This will answer your question, let us know your results. If I remember much from my statistics course (it was 25 years ago), you can never actually "prove" anything by this method, but if you have more samples you have a higher confidience factor. The confidence factor is what they report when they take a poll. For example, in the latest poll the presidents approval

I usually postpone victory a little, because some self determined goals were not yet accomplished. Usually these subgoals are along the line of wanting to destroy the final opponent with the strongest ships I can build (taking some more reasearch) or perfecting a particular planet. With my last game, I've deliberatedly cancelled an influence victory by declaring war on one of the two remaining races. I was aiming for a conquest victory, but by accidentally stealing all the influence techs an

Like somebody said, a lot of the fun in this game is learning what you can do and cannot do. Fun is trying to raise taxes very high (say 90%), with dollarsigns in your eyes, thinking about how easy it is to get lots of money, when in a few turns planets start to revolt! And you shamefully put the tax rate at a much lower value. That's nicer than just see the morale jump to 1% (in my game), thinking 'oh, I'm not suppost to do that..' However, I can understand from a develo

On the negative side, however, people may get annoyed at randomly having the crap kicked out of them by an uber-fleet. Yes yes very annoying indeed. I already get this annoying feeling when I'm happily compulsively micromanaging all my planets to

And is it just me, or does military rating care more about the number of ships than the quality? The quantity does matter more. With all due respect, ACS solver, it's clear that you are very enthousiastic about getting to know everything about the game's AI in great detail and sharing that with the Galciv community. But I have to

I wish the artistic style (as well as the personalities of the AI's), was a bit more elegant and mature. This preference probably stems from the fact that I also like simulation type games (although it's been years since I've played any), so maybe I'm not really being fair to the genre. More specifically, I wish GalCiv II had more of the seriousness that is inherent in str

Is it me or are a lot of these wishlist ideas complete nonsense requiring a completely different kind of game? Instead of making mods of every possible scifi show or a terribly complicated realistic 3d engine I would rather have Stardock improve on the great stuff they're already doing, balancing it right, adding more depth and new features to the concepts already implemented.

During my current game on a large map with common planets and stars I was able to colonize 11 planets (more than any one of my other 5 opponents) maintaining a 100% industrial capacity. Over the past few games I tried different strategies to colonize as many planets at the start without getting myself in such debt from which I can't recover. The way I was succesful this time was by maintaining approval/taxes at a reasonable level, move industrial to 100% and research to 60%. I sent the b

Where is this setting please? I've looked all over and cannot find it. I even *gasp* read the manual. It's where you start a new game, right beside the victory conditions. Another reply said that maybe the game didn't recognize my resetting of the button (the button doesn't work properly), that was my fear as well. That maybe when you on

I'm not sure you understand correctly Emp. Stephen I, you just start the game Galaxy Civ 2 and from the main menu choose 'metaverse', there you can login with your character information. If that's done, you can configure the game you would like to play with this character. After completion of the game the option of posting the score on the metaverse is given! Good luck!

I play on large maps with planet/star options on occasional with five opponents. I think I used to play with this configuration and with six opponents and still have three or four Minor Races.

Since I bought the game I never had Minor Races in a game I played, I tried both with 'Minor Races Disabled' on and off. Is this a known thing?? I know I haven't been kind to them before, but that's not a reason to never show up in the galaxy anymore.. Ps. They do show up however sometimes as a random new faction during the game.
