Then again, with any work of fiction, there's also supposed to be a suspension of disbelief. With proper Fantasy, more outlandish things can be accepted. Science Fiction is just as much 'Science' as it is 'Fiction'. No implication of anything truly 'Fantastical' in the 'genre' type. Thus, I tend to consider works seemingly created in such a genre to mostly follow the 'guidelines' of currently-accepted scientific theories -- for the work to be rationally explainable, and not overuse technobabble

Weaponsfire does originate from the point where the weapons are located, though there is no limitation such as firing arc or blocked view. Well, I figured the last part... but I really do not see much of a relation between where I put the weapons and where they fire from. Not that it matters, really. Just that I was watching a ship where the lase

I remember one time late-game where I decided to take a Small (I think? It had 55 hull space after full Miniaturization research) hull and load on 5 Black Hole Eruptors, then just pump out a bunch of them for suicidal attack fleets. I called them Ballistas - it helped that the hulls themselves looked kinda like arrowheads.

I've started to wonder about something. How come the supposedly 'smaller', more advanced versions of certain functional ship components (most notably weapons) actually appear larger when you actually go to place them? I could understand if the things actually did more damage, but, for the most part, the weapons seem to get visually larger as the statistical size gets smaller and smaller. This does not compute. I could understand if it's a brand new type of weapon. A first gener

Its out of phase, it says so in the weapon description, it only comes to this dimension when it is very close to the target to do maximun damage. Anyway, its a fraking game!, you think there are gnomes, dragons, fairies and that sort of sh-it out there?? *wonders on the seriousness of this statement, then continues anyway* There's a differe

I don't care too much about the subject of carriers myself, either. The game does seem fine without them, but it would be something else to mess with. I'd just like size of weapons and hulls to be taken into consideration for combat purposes in future instances of this game (not at all expecting such to ever be patched into the current iteration). Though maybe I'm just too used to Master of Orion with respect to this particular genre of game, and just expect weapons to be variable in si

I'm not sure. I started using it to say things were cheesy, like tiny fighters being too easy to hit with capital ship-grade weapons. Because we all know you can consistently hit an F-18 with 16-inch guns... *rolls eyes*

Fully agreed. I built them on large planets with a planned population of 100b, but even that is no longer worth it. I remember just trying to support around 25b on a planet with around PQ28 (EDIT: Or something... it's been too long, so I can't remember how high the PQ was), and no matter how many Morale buildings I put in, I couldn't get it up to

Huh... my experience with at least one Minor Race made it fairly apparent that sometimes they don't need protection. A Snathi Dreadnought capable of wiping out fleets of ships told me they have no trouble making it on their own. Though I think this is from earlier versions of the game, so maybe it's changed and I've just not had a chance to see another Snathi Dreadnought since the patch.

I remember playing one game where a Minor Race (The Snathi - those damned evil space squirrels!!!) kept producing insanely tough Dreadnoughts as the game went on. At least 100 defense in each area (with a focus in one or two types of defence, and a weak point for the last), and about 1000 ballistic damage capacity, I think? I felt that such power was impossible to replicate in a single ship, and figured they had boosted stats. They even traded a dreadnought to the Drengin and Yor every

I agree about it not being moddable - Unless somehow the idea of the module that distributes the mounted ship's Life Support and Speed throughout a Fleet can be implemented. That sounds like it has the least amount of changes involved with it. But this game focuses much on ship design, yes? And yet, the mechanics and such for ships are so simplistic. Weapon modules are just decoration that adds firepower. In Full Battles, weapons fire spits out of wherever the hell it feels like, and t

*deploys a Ticonderoga-Class Missile Cruiser* Here's what you use to deal with fighters. And anything, really. AEGIS f**ks everything and anything. Ships get missile'd, submarines get torpedo'd, fighters get Phalanx'd... Nothing for hundreds of miles but the Cruiser and its captain that hit the big red button. I think I'll play some Homeworld 2 while I check this thread... Something to keep in mind: GalCiv2 isn't about accurate depiction of fleet battles. Though it'd b

I suddenly remember Carriers in Master of Orion (and - as someone else said - in pretty much every single Sci-Fi movie/game ever)... As I notice in MOO3 (full patch no mod, at least), the Carrier pretty much dominates space battles due to its ability to sit back and let its fighters do all the fighting for it. Other ships just don't have the range, and so long as there's another type of fleet in there to serve as escort/distraction, the carriers won't fall and they just send out more fi

I've been changing cosmetic factors in my custom race's file for awhile, but I find that a few of these settings either do not get implemented, or are reset. For one, the Short Empire Name. I've given my custom a full name (The Alteran Alliance), and I've gone into the file every now and then to try to change the ShortEmpireName to just Alteran... and I'm getting mildly annoyed at how the game completely ignores this and overwrites the ShortEmpireName as Alteran Alliance. This

I'd like to be able to change all the Drengin stuff out, as well. It's about the only thing I really want to change. Quite silly to use them for the shortcuts, as they have nothing to do with linking or shortcutting or such. I also tend to be antagonized by the Drengin, so that also makes me dislike it... I'd rather have Altarian or Terran elements. Why not sub-themes that change those bits to reflect different races?
