And energy in general travels in waves? Huh? That's a 'Huh?' from me, as well... ... I think you're doing a better job of explaining it Regicide. Sound waves carry better (that is, last longer and over greater distances) with a medium such as water. This is why creatures such as cetaceans have evolved to use echolocation in water. Air d

Some trade goods help with population growth as well, normally I find they come a little late to have a great impact but others who are better at getting their research up faster may find them useful. Actually, I think just Aphrodisiacs improve population growth, and they come with Habitat Improvement, which isn't too far down the terraform line.

I think the best strat for dealing with Minors is, let them be- Trade with them regardless of alignment... and protect them- Sell techs to them to keep them strong. I find that it makes a good, uninterupted cash flow. No more loosing cash when majors declare war on you- Except for the trade they did with you. Also for some reason at the higher levels, I seem to make about

a ship can have a cockpit and still not be a fighter ie bombers and the space shuttle for instance Did I say cockpit? I said no such thing. I continue to stand by the argument that the Human-style Tiny craft are just too small for anything but one pilot. You look at the Terran scout. It has nothing but a cockpit and wings and a little tiny e

just 3 portraits He didn't say just 3 portraits. He said 3 races with unique portraits, so that's at least 4 portraits- but that's just assuming that all the other minor races have the exact same portrait, which is just not true. Every minor race I've seen has been different- the Snathi were the first I encountered, then two other races entered t

... I'd have won my current Metaverse game by Diplomacy... if I had remembered to turn it on. Now I'm wishing I had. A galaxy of all four Neutral races and me as a Research-modded Altarian with just Altaria and Wisp - as I just happened to start in a crappy corner where the only habitable planets in reach beyond Altaris were other race's systems. I'm not even taking the lead technologically. I'm trailing behind. At least I'm starting to gain ground in that area, though.. but it's very hard when

There are already mods that do this. I really should get ahold of some of these... Because, quite frankly, the Impulse series of Drives are the best-looking. Warp just makes me think of a space shuttle's backside (I don't want my ships resembling the ol' flying spacebrick), and hyperwarp has too much 'flare' to it, in my opinion. The Imp

a fighter is a one person or two person craft the tiny ship in this game i see as having at least 10 in the crew Problem with this is that the Terran/Human-style (which the Arceans use, as well) shows Tiny hulls being just that- one-person craft. You look at those Tiny hulls, and it's pretty obvious its a fighter. The AI even CALLS Tiny a

Flagships, big huge things, like the Enterprise from Star trek, or w/e star wars has. Each Enterprise (all 6/7 of them) was just of a 'standard' class of ship. The original NCC-1701, for instance, was a classic Constitution-class. The USS Constitution was the first of this class. The NCC-1701-A was a Constitution Refit (also, the original 1701 wa

I actually tend to classify the modern-day H&K G11 as a 'Pulse Rifle' ... Mostly because it fires quick bursts of fire - so quick that the human ear cannot tell it is actually a burst and not just a 'snap shot' of a single shell - in a pseudo-automatic manner. Fire burst, short pause, fire burst, etc... Without needing to release the trigger, if I remember the mechanics right. I tend to see this as how the Pulse Rifles from the Aliens movie to work

star trek planet of eden Such a world would be far more habitable than that god-damned Wisp, I think. It would need an event upon landing, I suppose, but still... it's likely to have an atmosphere, it obviously has water... it's at least habitable, if not hospitably so. Definitely looks more habitable than most of the secondary worlds the average

I uninstalled my game and made a new client folder, then got the cheats. I mean, same directory, but..yeah. Don't work. I'm currently using them to 'OMGWTFBBQPWN' the Dread Lords in the Campaign with no problems.

I love it when people on this site act like they are scientists, lasers and beams, DON'T EXIST ( well exept for laser pointers and such), it all started with Star Trek and Star Wars, and now people act like its reality, it's all shiny looking special effects in movies and games meant to make people look at them and say "oooh pretty". Current mili

Hyperonian ' Hyperion ' ... It's a name from Greek mythology. Also used for the name of the class of Battlecruiser used by the Terrans in StarCraft, and many other things .

This does not work, atleast in the latst verions 1.31 . My cheat shortcut still works. Are you sure you're using the proper path for your game's exe within the quotes? EDIT: As it stands, you are missing the 'Program Files' directory - at least with respect to where mine is installed.

All that cheat does is raise the number, not the available tiles. That being said, this sounds like a really cool bug. Do you have your debug and/or save? Actually, there's two separate cheats. One is a universal cheat (Ctrl+Shift+P) that affects all UNINHABITABLE WORLDS. The second one will increase PQ for a single world. And you are ri

Are the skull and crossbones showing up over the planet or are you assuming that the population is going to revolt? Also, you didn't say the difficulty. And what government are you running with. I tend to keep the initial gov. even though I will research all of them. I know it's not the most economically friendly but I do believe you get to have lower morale numbers withou

The molecules that 'vibrate' are the ones producing the sound wave. Like your vocal chords. They are made up of molecules (GASP!). Or a crystal emitter used in an offensive sonic oscillation device. Once you have that initial vibrator that impacts with particles, then the 'chain reaction' of particles hitting other particles starts, forming a wave in the particle 'bath' that is the atmosphere. You can have shockwaves, you can have gravitic waves, you can have varying wavelengths of ligh

There was just a very good point made by my 'paternal precursor'. Where's the cooperative play? He wants to be able to play with me in games and help me, but there's no such thing as multiplayer even for players to work together with this game. It's still technically against the AI, so the main challenge would continue to be presented by the AI. Just thought there wouldn't be any harm in at least mentioning this.

*jaw drops as he reads posts since his* Sonics can't work in a vacuum, simple as that. What the frack. However, you can make yourself a Microwave deathwave gun and fire it at an enemy ship. Currently, all Microwave weapons can do is utterly destroy electronics - not unlike Ion weapons in Star Wars or any old EMP. EDIT: I don't say waves won't work in space, just sonics won't work. There is a very big difference.

Ammon: all your suggestions would require code and AI rewrite. So not happening, basically. I'd just like to state that I think we get it, Marc. One would think your whole purpose in life is to tell people things can't be done. Anyway, all t
