Alt-terrans You have the great Alterans, founders of Atlantis, builders of roads from Roman legend, first race to ascend to a higher plane of existence, and creators of an exceptional network of Astria Porta that allow instantaneous travel between planets throughout the Milky Way Galaxy (Orbis Lacteus)? Oh, you mean Alt ari ans... r

ever since I've played this game I haven't even touched another game That's just you. I've gone back to Wing Commander since playing this game. And I'm tempted to start up MoO2 again, as well as Hegemonia: Legions of Iron and Homeworld 2. Only reason I currently have GC2 running on my laptop behind me right now is because I decided I'd g

Don't under any circumstances whatsoever get MoO3, even if they pay u! I'm under the impression that MoO3 isn't worse or better. It's just so different from its predecessors that it is no longer a MoO game. I find enjoyment out of playing it, but that's just me. It is more about managing your empire than fighting wars. And when you h

Heh... surprisingly nice post, Evil Storm. Yes, planetary defences do tend to do something when you try to go and bomb the $h!t out of the planet in games like Master of Orion. Once those defences are gone, however, it's only a matter of time before the planet has been cleansed of all life. A matter of time. Pay attention to that term. That means it takes time. Time and resources, as you are constantly supplying more bombs to your fleet, technically. The point of the matter is,

... yes, we get it.... moron ... I like that quote from the space.com site. It's exactly what I was trying to say. I don't think I ever argued that sound was or was not produced by energy. It's just a matter of actually supplying the right /KIND/ of energy. There's a wide variety of energy types in the universe. The kind needed for sound, however, doesn't occur often in the vast (near-)void of space.

Ummmmmm, isn't your job programming? Yes, but she has better things to do than to code anything like carriers ... like code Dark Avatar with more important features.

GalCiv2 will not get it, and neither will GC3. Full 3d simply doesn't work well with free-travel space (as opposed to starlanes as in MOO and others); the game would quickly become totally unmanageable even on small maps. t

You have to select 'None' from the shipyard construction list and then hit Done. Anything else, and it'll just keep building what's selected, no matter if you selected Done or Cancel or what-have-you. And what glowing ring is this? The light-blue ring with the even-breaks? That's called the 'selection indicator' or something to that effect. It shows you what planet and/or ship is currently selected (as both planets and ships can be selected), but I figure you know that ring already, so.

I'll reverse-engineer my Lucky Ranger! Then I'll be able to build more such ships before I'd normally be capable of such a feat. Anyway, this makes me think of X-COM, where you had to reverse-engineer all the high-tech stuff being used against you to even have any hope of winning.

Something tells me this kid's idea of a strategy game is Warcraft 3... CIVILIZATION GAEMS ... I assume by this part of the review that he does, indeed, play games more complicated than Warcraft 3.

I was playing a 1.31 Metaverse (my first and still technically not done) and the Terrans were being threatening about me having Influence Starbases near their territory- particularly one that allowed me the range to have trade routes with them. I intend to conquer the Terrans by Influence, then, perhaps with their resources, I'll manage to be able to leap ahead of the other races in every area, and thus have the power to crush them all under my foot... eventually. Everyone's allied with

Nah. Just call them Tankers. It's more appropriate. They're essentially supplying a greater range to other vessels, yes? Then they are Tankers, not Carriers. Or Tenders, maybe. But I like the term Tankers.

And all the imbalances applied to MOO as well. Options doesn't always equal strategy. Sometimes they are just easy exploits. I suppose that would be true, but I tended to prefer to invade and capture colonies intact in Master of Orion... Any amount of bombardment tended to destroy all the improvements that may have been useful before it killed of

Yggdrasil is also the name of the coolest ship ever from Xenogears. It starts out as a 'sandcruiser', then becomes a proper 'submarine', then finally it's an honest to gawd Airship. At some point, it's given a fourth form that lasts only long enough for a few cutscenes that have the original ship only part of a giant mecha the size of a city (the actual mecha part /was/ used as the central district of a city, while it was in 'aircruiser' form). It OMGWFTBBQPWNd some big nasty things. After all t

Epsilon Exists, so you can pritty much do that now Pali My point is that I do. I just would like it to be home to a substantial population, as well. And people in a colony ship wouldn't be enlisted. Who uses military personnel as colonists? The Americas weren't colonized by military. They were colonized by civilians - often persecuted re

... it's still really dumb that it leads towards a yes or no on 2 additional trade routes, but then suddenly, without warning, gives you an option of just how many trade routes, instead of explaining that instead of specifically 2, the number of additional trade routes is to be decided by vote. However, saying 2 additional in the first place is superfluous and a waste of time to read, then. I'd rather have it say that they're proposing to allow additional trade routes, then leave it to

However, if we keep "World" as "universe", then I have good news to everybody! THE WORLD IS FLAT! As proven in the Game The term 'Game World' comes to mind from this... ^^ Anyway, in a 'Game World' that I created and have worked on with other people, Pluto and Charon are capital-worlds of a government on the outskirts of the Sol system

Because it gets mentioned far too often for ideas to add to GalCiv2, despite the pointing out of the fact that the devs just don't have the time to both code the things in mechanically, and make sure the AI will make use of them... as well as for them to add any worthwhile gameplay. As it stands, I agree with the devs that, as GalCiv2 is, such a ship type would not be all that revolutionary. And maybe, just maybe, you could see them whenever GalCiv3 is... but for now.. not happen

I purchased this game after reading the high marks it received, but the reality is simply this. It is not Master of Orion. It is barely mediocre and certainly not worthy of the marks it received. Perhaps we have been too long without a MOO for too long. This is not a MOO clone. Yes, MOO has better military features. But does MOO have political an
