Tech Cat is right on the money, unless Linux supporters are saying that vinyl is far superior to leather, or that plastic bumpers are far superior to metal ones. Each kind of entity mentioned is notorious for taking inferior alternatives to save money. Not that it doesn't make Linux less mainstream, but it's only mainstream for its price tag, not for its features.

I think what Brad's pointing out is that those who are criticizing America as if it is the only country guilty of such actions are acting like hypocrites. Sure, America does worse than any other country in the world, but it also does better. It might be better if we were a country that did nothing for the world like Switzerland, but maybe we're a double-edged sword that countries take for granted.

Maybe it's me, but I think that a corporation should have the right to decide what to pay its employees as opposed to having a government decide what the corporation should pay its employees. I love my sexy iBook, but it does annoy me that it only has one mouse button on it. You'd think that with the extra five-hundred dollars I pay for a Mac computer, that they'd add an extra button, especially when context menus are quite common.

The segregation that Linux users advocate does work against them. Although they might enjoy it, I'm sure that many will agree with me when I say that one should be able to reliably copy and paste from one application to another. It's simply better when things work well together even if it means a little bloat, which Linux has as well except without the benefit.

In the case of GIMP and OpenOffice, it costs time in the fact that things can be done quicker in their commercial counterparts. True, nobody needs all the features of Office 2003, but small things such as being able to see the word count without going to the menu makes it worth the cost.
