I suppose that's possible, but all my new ships are going to the Documents/My Games/GalCiv3/Designs folder. Of course, that doesn't preclude the possibility that the files are also being saved elsewhere, but in addition to looking everywhere that made sense to me, I did a hard drive search for the name of the ship and came up with no results...

I found a way to resolve this... I recorded the differences between the earlier save (which had a file) and the new ship design (which had no file but was saved in the game) and then deleted the file-less ship, used the old design, made the changes, and saved the corrected design. I'm not sure if there was another work-around, but that's what I did and it worked...

Thanks, Ed. I agree, it does have a bit of a Star Wars vibe going on--though that wasn't intentional... it just kind of happened, but I am really pleased that it did because it really captures my overall aesthetic for ship designs (reminds me of some of my favorite custom GCII designs--only this is WAY more sophisticated by the sheer wonder that is the GCIII ship designer (thank you dev team!)).

I'm in favor of seeing overflow actually do something also. Even if they put a limit of 3 improvements or 3 ships as tai_cl suggested, could the excess not go to economy? I could see a limit being based on size of ship too...

So as I've been creating ships for the contest, I've gone to copy the files in order to back them up... but one of the ships I designed has no files that I can find. It also has no thumbnails in the saved game from which I designed it. Maybe I'm not looking in all the right places? The other ships I've designed are present (in the Documents/My Games/GalCiv3/Designs folder). The odd thing is that one of the older save files of the design in question is in the folder, bu

I didn't know that Ed, thanks! That's wonderful. As for the CTRL key, I could be wrong, but I thought that just placed the component at the cursor and not to any anchor... which does prevent it from acquiring any attributes from any other pieces because it stands alone.

Just curious, how are you guys all submitting your contest entries? Are you submitting a single view or a combination of views? Or are you submitting one view and then a link to a video? I'm just torn about the best way and figured I'd ask what you all are doing... I'm finishing up a few designs and I'm really excited to post them here.

I've been keep track of some ship designer issues, and I figure this is as good a place and time as any to mention them. First, adding to what you've mentioned in Issue 2: Wonky hard points--I find that sometimes the opposite takes place when you don't want it to. For example, I've been playing around with creating bends and tubes by attaching several pieces and then angling them each by a few degrees and offsetting them closer together. If you add all the

Two more issues I've noticed in 0.51: 1) Free trade agreements can be purchased from other races again and again, and the +5% bonus applies each time as "Diplomatic Agreement." 2) Strange text behavior (displays past borders) in diplomacy screen, treaties tab:

Wow. Moral relativism at its best. To quote Dr. Buddy Rydell: "Jibber jabber jibber jabbering, mumbo jumbo, denial, key-key-key-key-key-key!" I say this not to judge you, Derracs, but rather piracy--or "copyright infringement." First, just because the Supreme Court said it isn't theft, doesn't mean it isn't. It may not be criminal in the US, but it remains wrong. The very definition of "infringement" should make this obvious--when is "the action o

Right now, I think the AI tech trade like crazy too, so don't feel bad if they have a lot of techs. I typically push research in the early fame and after 100-150 turns, the AI often have 20-30 techs that I don't (almost all of which are low-level), but I have 15-20 more advanced techs that none of them have... Also, consider pushing economy and tourism techs early. Right now tourism is overpowered and you won't hurt for money once tourism is researched. Not sure how this w
Does anyone else see the issue when adding equipment, you add one and the cursor loses the part so you have to pick it again. I have quit designing because of this issue. I am so frustrated [e digicons]#:([/e] with it I almost went to Paul to complain.
I mentioned this in my feedback post--I agree. Very. Frustrating.

Some minor visual bugs: 1) at one point in the Akari Malara animation, some of her hair stands up on the left side of her head (viewer's right), and then the animation flickers. 2) in the trading screen, some of the numbers that show how many techs, colonies, etc. are very difficult to read because they blend in to the background (blue numbers against blue background elements).

Lol. I read right over your Churchill quote--I was just needing a break from my work... which, oddly enough, is editing and proofreading. So, editing a sentence might not seem like a break from editing to most people, but it is to me because what I'm editing right now is somewhat boring. No Altarians. No strange alien worlds. No snarky Winston Churchill quotes to totally miss.
You, sir, are encouraged an

I know this doesn't entirely fit AuraBoy's OP, but if I'm not mistaken, the plan is (or was) to allow stars to be renamed just like planets can be renamed. I believe Paul said this in a stream (probably more than a month ago). So, if this happens, you could make changes in game--though these wouldn't affect the XML. I already rename all planets as part of my play style, so I hope the option to rename stars and black holes and nebulas et cetera becomes poss

While I generally agree with the comments here, this is an issue that has been mentioned many times on the streams as something the dev team will always be tweaking. For example, this last stream (or maybe the one before), Paul mentioned that black hole placement was behaving in an undesired way (clumping black holes together in otherwise empty areas). Anyhow, just thought I'd mention it and suggest we all be patient since this is still a beta and they are working out these d
