I was just about to suggest that to you. But I don't think it's necessary to change the motive to Good Night, don't you think it would be far enough just to flip it horizontally?
The reason for making it a Good Night dream is that the effect of having the daylight on the horizon is more dramatic that it being night time. The rotation of the Earth dictates that I follow the sun as it sets.
And you have my vote to make the atmosphere less thick
Tha

It has occurred to me that I may have this backward. The emptiness space should be on the top left where your icons would go. Maybe I'll reverse this dream to be "Good Night Earth" and follow the sunset around the Earth with the Earth rotating toward the camera instead of away.

Thanks to everyone for your comments! Which programm do you use? Might be handy Can I play with that stuff too I just got 3ds max and this is the first attempt at making something with it. It's a bit overwhelming with all the options. Much to learn! the edge of the earth atmosphere is too blue and too thick Thanks Excalpius, your right, looking at some reference material has reviled that there is little

I thought I would preview my new render of the Earth. It's going to take 3 days to render the entire rotation of the earth in the one minute video, so I was hoping for some feedback before I let it run for the entire 3 days. The dream will be one minute long and will follow the sunrise around the Earth. EDIT 10/16/07: Changed the view to have space on top left and flow the morning around. EDIT 10/19/07: I think I got the atmosphere done and lowered the altitude of the clouds

I don't know Maya, but you could try rendering just the water to a video file. Then you need an application fade the end of the video into the beginning. Then somehow use this footage in Maya instead of the original water.

If you want to try different videos on different monitors to see what the CPU load would be (or just to see what it would be like) you can try my SSDream application. It doesn't support the .dream file format, but it will play different WMV and MPEG files on each monitor. On my: 6600 Core Duo 2.4ghz Over clocked to 3.2ghz NVidia 8800 GTS I get a 14% CPU load when I run two MPEG2 videos: <a href="htt

Are WMV slow for you? Make sure you have DirectX Video Acceleration for WMV files enabled. 1. Open Windows Media Player 2. Press ALT on the keyboard to show the menu. 3. Choose Tools then Options 4. Click the "Performance" tab. 5. Check the "Turn on DirectX Video Acceleration for WMV file" option. 6. Press OK and close Windows Media Player. I hope this helps some users with terrible WMV performance.

It may require less CPU, but I'm sure the entire video is loaded into memory and the longer the video the more memory it's going to use. If I remove the stars on the standard orbit version, it may lower the size. But, I don't think it would for the dynamic version as they don't move. When I have some time, I'll play with it.

SteveBachochin, Thanks as these are all great suggestions. I like the low orbit idea as long as I can keep the detail from dropping off. I used textures from NASA for the earth, and I believe there where some higher resolution ones availiable. I believe the multi-minute video needed to slow the earth down more would suck up too much memory.

I made my Apollo DreamScene a few months back where you fly around the Moon and Earth. I got a few requests to have a version that just sits and orbits the Earth only. I am unable to post that version on the website, so I'm going to use this blog to track any changes I make to it. NEW TRIGGERED VERSION (6/14/07): From 6am to 6pm, the da

Microsoft makes a free WMV encoder and can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx You may also be able to load the AVI into Vista's Movie Maker and then save it as a WMV.
