And here are some more odd things: 7. A conquered star system cannot be colonized even though it has a planet that would make a good colony. 8. Ship piles seem to build up in various places. I find I can pull my own off the top, but it's clear it's not just trading, since cultures that are at war (and hardly likely to be trading ships) are involved.

1. No it's the stats screen at the end of the game. But the weirdness was accompanied by the one-month build syndrome. It was actually quite easy to conquer these systems and they were GREAT to own, but it was sort of cheating... Another oddness that's probably already been mentioned: The saved games don't retain trade routes gained through conference votes (though they reappear without needing to be re-freightered when new votes are taken).

I just managed to play a tiny galaxy to completion (beyond human). Here's some idiosyncracies that I noted: 1. The Drengin Empire ended up with 150 million odd tech points for some reason and when I defeated them, both their planets kept producing any class of ship in just one turn. They were the only bad guys in the game. 2. The tech list would freeze at whatever position it ended up in after new tech was developed. This eventually rectified itself when all available rema

Fix the known bugs, implement all of the ships and add graphics for those improvements that don't have any. A look at making some of the colours either configurable or more contrasting to background might be helpful. Faint blue overlaid on dark backgrounds is just about invisible to these old eyes.

This occurs when I access a freighter that I built and then stashed in orbit around one of my own stars near where I eventually wanted it. Twice now I have tried to activate this ship with the result that the program ducks out to Windows. Still not getting .cra files even with SmartExeption running... My reasoning for voting against ranged ships is that you can achieve almost the same effect in a much more natural manner by simply playing in a huge galaxy. I've done that a few times in the OS/2 version and the effect is that you can only explore and dominate a patch of the galaxy at first, with the rest of it slowly opening up as the ships get faster and faster. Oh, you can send a survey ship on a long, long voyage, but to get a colony ship or even a battle cruiser to those remote a

OK, so it's unimplemented. That's no problem....they will get to it. I could maybe help in the art dept. since I do 3D stuff and could make a ship and render it with any desired materials to an icon. If I remember, the Excaliber had a sort of transparent look to it. I do have the OS/2 version but I shut my last OS/2 system down in August of 2000.

I don't mind the way the list works in the social projects screen, but my governor's screen has the same scrolling problem with the priorities list. I'm running Win2K Pro, K6-III+ 450 with 256Mb ram and ample disk space.

This one occurred when I sent a freighter onto a Drengin planet. The screen actually showed the freighter move onto the planet then the system crashed: Debug Message: ******* Starting Game Shell ******* Debug Message: Going Fullscreen Debug Message: RGB in format 5:6:5, Masks reported as f800:7e0:1f Debug Message: Now Fullscreen Debug Message: Shell initialization complete Debug Message: ***** Initializing Game ***** Debug Message: Timer Frequency is 0 12

I was just taking a turn and the program exited leaving me at the Drengin CM. (I hit the turn button). I'm posting another log from a similar crash that just happened as I tried to land a freighter on a Drengin planet to set up a trade route.

I played extensively this afternoon, and had one crash where the program simply rolled up and disappeared. It occurred when I tried to access one of my freighters on the ship list. And it was the second freighter I tried. I accessed the first one OK. This looks like some sort of memory or stack error, but I have no way to run the program under a debugger and still get any playable speed out of it.

The word surveillance is misspelled. And one screen, I forget which has "mush" for "much." The game crashes unaccountably at odd times, most notably when I try to access a ship from the ship list and when starting a new game with all idiot opponents (hey, I had to try it!). No error message or anything, the program just exits stage left. There seems to be something amiss with the animations of freighters under autopilot (though they get where they are sent, they don't move wh

I'm abstaining from this poll. I think that a well-oiled 3D engine can be used to enhance a strategy game but I'm dubious about the utility of trying to use one of the bleeding edge protocols (this has always been a problem for DirectX--it's a moving target). Still, I think game concept, general implementation and user interface are probably much more important. I used to play the old BASIC Star Trek game by the hour and the Galactic Empires BBS game (for which I wrote a set o
