I've played the TA Altarians and didn't run in to financial problems. Was a smooth and pleasant ride for me. At the start of the game, don't build anything on newly colonized planets and try keeping your morale at 100% as long as possible. Research economy and morale enhancing techs early on. Pop-growth enhancing techs are a good idea too.

Personally I have very much designed the ship designer from MOO 2. Select a hull size and add weapons and other functional components. Simple and efficient. Don't get me wrong, the ship editor in GC2 is great. And the new functional components in TA improve it eve further. However I don't use the personally. I've tried a few times, but unfortunately the hardpoints on most parts are either at the wrong places, too far apart or was too dense. In addition there's the superb icon vi
By the way, question similar or related to the one by mentor07825 frequently appear on http://ask.slashdot.org While not representative, the comments to those questions often provide interesting insight (and quite often a good laugh. Good ol' /. humor ^^) Most universities/colleges/schools offer mentor programs, where older students, graduates or people working in the industry offer their help. Be sure to participate in them. If possible, try to get an experienced developer as
No jevelery matters for me, because I play 99% of time in strategic (icon) view mode. My ships are machines of death and destruction, not fashion models.
QFT! Especially on the larger maps, I'm never leaving icon view.
There are a couple of great books about C++, for example "Thinking in C++": http://www.amazon.com/Thinking-C%2B%2B-Introduction-Standard-2nd/dp/0139798099/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200677330&sr=8-1 (Volume 1) http://www.amazon.com/Thinking-C%2B%2B-Vol-Practical-Programming/dp/0130353132/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200677330&sr=8-2 (Volume 2) A must-have for every serious programmer is Donald E. Knuth's "The Art of Computer Programming":<
Unfortunately I'm neither Brad nor a Stardock employee, I'm not even involved in game development. However as leader of a popular open source project and as computer science student, I would like to share my point of view. First of all, you need to understand that programming is a love-hate relationship. It can be great most of the time, but quite often it's just tedious and frustrating. You will eventually spend hours or even days hunting a single bug. You'll curse your code, blaming t
Small suggestion: You might want to use a different algorithm to scale your images. With cubic interpolation they would be a lot more readable.
Poor Thalans.
Nice read. I especially like the battle plan screenshots.
If you did tie your serial to your email address (no clue if that's even possible, as I have the download version), install Stardock Central and select "Tools -> Lookup Serial Number" from the menu. There you enter your email address and it will mail you your serials.
You know you can turn off mega events? A mega event is supposed to be mega: Turning the game upside down.
Did you accidentally buy lots of buildings and ships everything on lease?
As long as you invade a planet before any AI players do, it shouldn't crash. If you don't want to invade, just invading to bring up the screen and then cancelling should be enough to prevent the crash from occurring. You just have to open that screen once on your own before any AI players do.
Before AI does it to you or even before AI does it amongst each other? Does it persist over restarting GC2?
Save your game every 10 turns. When an AI invades on a turn and the game crashes you know where the AI is headed. Intercept and destroy. Garison all planets. All our base are belong to us. For great justice!!
Doesn't work. Mega Pirates, me being slow Arcean and enemy sending speed 10 transports (twice as fast as pirates). Now I could easily survive enemy invasion being fully teched and having tir'quan with enemy having basic invasion tech only. If only the game would
The final TA will have a map editor. So I guess then we can manually generate all the maps we like.
Dear Stardock, please mail me a bag of F5 keys, I've run out of spare ones. Ship using international overnight express please.
I don't think it's broken, per se. GalCiv2 is the only game that makes my computer do this. Other games like Crysis don't. I would think GC2 wouldn't need more resources than that game.
If a computer restarts to overheating, it's broken. Obviously, not all programs are capable of stressing the system so much that it overheats. But on a proper system you could even install programs which would deliberately try to overheat without causing any problems. For exam
Broken hardware, I'd return it to the manufacturer if warranty hasn't expired yet.
Since this is a single-player game, a good AI makes or breaks this game. So, please take your time and make the AI really really smart. Think Skynet or so ;)
