Thank you, all of you for the great advise! It's interesting to see that there are so many well-working methods of colony rush, I hope I'll have time next weekend to try out your recommendations. This should give me a lot more fun in tiny and small galaxies! Until now those games were often hit-or-miss depending on how lucky I was in colonizing a few more planets or not.

Hi all, I've recently returned to TA after months of inactivity. I find it hard to compete with the AI during the colony rush if I don't use all-abundant settings in tiny or small galaxies. I know that first of all I should focus more on production in the first turns to build more colony ships faster, but still a few concrete examples from how you manage your colony rush would be very much appreciated. E.g. 1) Do you research any sensor or speed improvement

As for upgrading ships, didn't MottiKhan at some point upgrade 17000 ships at once? Livonya (not sure about the exact spelling, haven't been around for a few months) might have similarly huge numbers in those 1 million + game he submitted...

Same here, still have to build my first Eyes but then I typically play on tiny - small mostly. I value Tir-Quan a lot since it brings an additional boost for invading planets on top of all the techs. I yet have to build MCC in TA since it has been fixed but for some civilizations I wouldn't rate this as the highest priority (especially when facing AI races with much higher influence than my own). I agree with DethAdder than the SCC is awesome regardless of whether it is a gala

How about buying morale tech from another civilization? Or of course maximizing your trade income so you can lower taxes which in turn improves morale. Though this is risky: when the vote is cast to limit evil races to only 1 trade route that takes a huge bite out of your income so be prepared that this may happen.

Some "answers" that I would give, just to provoke some thoughts: 1) Open war: First of all try to avoid that several AI's gang up on you. Bribe them into attacking each other, get some AI's to fight on your side, etc. Secondly, if your economy is in bad shape, devote some worlds that don't run immediate risk of being attacked to economy, allowing you to focus on military production on your other planets. Having a sizeable military (aided by some buildings such as Sp

I would suggest you first ferry inhabitants from your other planets that have reached their population cap to this class 45 monster. In the meantime build stock exchanges and see how many you need to be break even with a fully populated planet, assuming the rest is filled with factories and influence buildings.

You could also do the opposite, decreasing military spending as much as possible on all but a few planets, where you build transports. You don't need any other military construction besides that. You can even decommission factories on a few planets and build econ buildings instead.

Nevertheless it's nice to have someone post this, as there are a lot of questions on the forum of "newer" players on how to beat the game at suicidal. 2 points that I would change though: - To get your military rating up sooner in the game (deferring AI's from attacking you early on), I would recommend building some smaller ships than huge ones as soon as possible. Medium hulls + psionic beams + spin control center is already a blast. - I would send 2 f

It's a very nice experiment in bending the rules or getting the most out of the existing set of rules. And I can somehow understand people who always try to break that previous record. But in terms of pure gameplay it isn't nearly as fun as a "regular" game imho. Still, the techniques and strategy used in ZYW can to some extent be applied in those regular games and the way of thinking helped me to speed up my early game phases a lot.

I would agree, after I've gained more cost-effective techs from the AI through tech trading I rarely if ever bother with the Thalan matrix buildings anymore. On the other hand if you can get a good economy running, they only take 1 tile to produce quite a few "points" (industry, research) so there might be some limited use for them early on in a tiny / small galaxy where every tile counts.
...Then again, the news that the fantasy game will go into Beta in the spring has caught my eye more.I'm eagerly and impatiently awaiting not-MoM too, more than any game for a long time! It's been what, about 15 years since MoM? If only it were coming out sooner...
Yeap, it's absolutely unbelievable how several companies have failed to come up with an alternative to MoM in those 15-or-so years. At least all the similar games I've seen so far had only better graphics but w

Well, TA will be tougher at the start due to the restricted economy and slower tech tree (e.g. several techs to research before you get to Tech Capital, only a few races having access to SCC), but then again I think so far no one has explored the new possibilities unlocked by TA. PS Congratulations on your enormous score!

Not sure if we broke a record but it's been a rainy Summer in Belgium as well, at least some regions were flooded though nothing exceptional. I always find it ironic that in the 21st century one or two days of heavy rain streets and some homes will flood. Instead of improving the drainage they spend money on messing up traffic - seems to be worse here than in most other countries. :p
What's worth being in that area of the country? ...
It's for work, I would prefer to visit other places if it was for holiday purposes :p We already figured there's not much to do or see there, but I guess it doesn't matter if you mostly see the hotel and the office. In any case it's bound to be better weather than Moscow last year.
Also, move the existing colony ship into orbit of the homeworld, then launch it at full capacity. It only has ~100 units on it right now. Next turn when you get the colony ship via the upgraded miner, do the same.I'd build the first factory on the farm tile. I just hate those tiles on homeworlds, so I place a factory over that fertile plain. Gets those green peace people all riled up.
:D Another vote here towards rush-buying a factory and upgrading the m
