KzintiPatriarch, it will be in the area of St Louis (Missouri).

Congratulations, 13K on a medium map is at the very least a good, solid score! Some key points to higher scores (taken from discussions of far better players than me - I can't remember submitting any scores higher than 13K): 1) Speed. Just take a look at the ZYW (zero-year-win) thread to see the impact. Scores up to 40K have been achieved on tiny maps, by completing a military victory as soon as Metaverse allows it (which is somewhere in April, finishing sooner trips a cheat flag)<b
What you could do on a newly conquered world, if you're paying too much building maintenance costs, is to decommission some buildings and raise econ / population growth buildings in their place. What also helps is to ship population from your planets where you've reached the population cap to the newly conquered planets. In terms of tech: just going down 1 research branch will usually get you into trouble (economy too weak, military too weak, manufacturing too slow, etc. can be dead
Impressive!
In addition I would recommend starting with the Terrans since their tech tree is less "exotic" than most of the others so it may be more intuitive to find your way there first.
I wouldn't consider space miners to be worth the money so early in the game. Unless you're going to convert them into spore ships or transports for a blitzkrieg invasion very early on... Something to keep in mind: if you trade away and diplomatic techs (include those from the "trade" branch), you're giving away a diplomatic bonus which will lead to less good deals with the AI from that point on. Therefore very few players ever give those techs away. The additional cost from worse deals
Absolutely, there are players who only play on suicidal - though it's taken them time as well to refine their strategies enough to survive.
Are you talking about the military score during the game, or what you got as outcome after you finished the game? Since I have no clue about your experience with GalCiv2, some questions: 1) Did you park your dreadnoughts in orbit of the planet with the SCC? 2) What weapons did you put on them? Did you research enough miniaturization? 3) What did you build on your planets? Since it looks like you had economy trouble, I'd look into opportunities to improve your income: - M
The major difficulties with multiple opponents in a ZYW are indeed economy (you need more transports / spore ships), their total expansion is much faster (e.g. 3 AI's chucking out colony ships each at the same rate that otherwise the single AI would build them) and while you're taking out one, the others start building fighters. I remember my very first ZYW attempts were against 3 opponents. Needless to say I usually ended up with a 1-year-win or something...
Just a note to say that the current assumption is that I'll be out for the next 3 MVL rounds. 2 weeks from now I'm flying to the US, will be working there for 3 months. And knowing the joys of working on assignments abroad, I'll probably have very little time to spend on GalCiv II or any other passtime for that matter... So until further notice, don't include me in any team drafts to avoid no-shows :)
You guys all deserve a prize for patience and endurance :)
Wow, that looks very interesting but incredibly time-consuming as well :)
Welcome zerodexter. If you want, you could sign up for the MVL at [link="https://forums.galciv2.com/157227"]WWW Link[/link] Getting tips and tricks from fellow team members (and a certain empire patriarch) has been an eye-opener for me. In addition the different settings for each MVL round "force" me to change style every now and then, thus exploring the entire width of the game. You say your first metaverse games have low scores, but you already submitted one at crippling diff
My submission for team C:
All players of Team C have checked in since the beginning of this round: E-stab Freeman43 TheGreatEmperor Davabled Noctilucus Defcon13 posted his pc got mowed down by a virus, and that until further notice we should consider him to be out for this round.
Basically through the customization of the AI races you reduce them to drooling nothings, only it will not be reflected in your score since theoretically they are set to Suicidal difficulty :p Interesting experiment but honestly I'd be bored after executing it once.
A "top player" is one who specializes in artificially jacking up their score? Interesting.
Well, just 1 thing to say on this: personally I would have no interest in this kind of points farming, but be assured that a "weak" player could do as much points farming as he wants in a huge galaxy and still only achieve mediocre scores. Yes, there are "top players" who don't do this, but anyone submitting scores in the range of 500K or more must have done a great job regardle
Thanks KzintiPatriarch :) I know I should have found the answer in the Rulebook thread. My memory must be getting rustier than I thought, probably old age :p
Quick question, my memory's getting a bit rusty due to work claiming so much of it: were we or were we not allowed to pick the opposing AI's? In other words, do they have to be random races or not? In the previous round I always played with random races, I'm wondering whether I'm leaving some potential improvement there...
Thanks Silverbeacher :) I just sent a PM to all Team C members with the link & password to our Core Forum. Well, except to e-stab because obviously he already posted there, and to defcon13 for whom I hope his data will be recoverable... PS I hope the password is still the same as the one I have; if not, e-stab seems to have the right one in any case :)
Another instance in which invasion waves can be effective is if you are using Information Technology warfare. Send in successive transports using this and you can sway many more people to your side than just sending in one fleet of transports and using that tactic once. I did notice that sometimes after the first transport, the enemy morale has gone up to 100% (all the dissenters died in the first wave?), so you cant use it again. This only seems to happen some of the time though, and I d
Don't forget to get tech / economy alliances with them if possible. And like WIllythemailboy said, it's basically a balance of the diplomatic relations + and - factors so have a look at each of those.
Probably not cost-effective to do though.
Indeed, for the time spent to create a small dozen of videos or such, they could do so much more that enhances gameplay. And I'm pretty sure that's the choice they've made :)
Best of luck Silverbeacher! And from what I've been seeing in the MVL, you've done a great job so we were glad to have had you as Commissioner during that time :)
Influence SB's can be built in the AI's territory (it is only 1 negative factor in the diplomacy) but I've read on this forum that the AI will automatically attack any terror stars within its territory. Which would make sense :)
