... Also, changing the enemy to Thalans helped a tiny bit...one less spore ship to build/upgrade. They often have fighters, but I just buy them off with tech...
Very nice twist, I like that a lot :D

Did anyone else notice that in TA the AI suspiciously often parks constructors or colony ships in orbit of their planets? I would even suspect a certain someone has noticed the ZYW thing and decided to make it a bit harder...
Thanks KzintiPatriarch! I only noticed after I had ordered my spore ship to invade that it was April 22nd, usually I'm never that fast :p I don't have any save but these ZYWs play so quickly it's not necessary saving. I still don't manage to breach the 20K in TA though, even following your tactics. I chose 'luck' for my custom race but I haven't seen any +300% bonus tile on my homeplanet in any of my games, let alone a +300% research tile. Congratulations with your 250+ games and
In one case I had to gift the Alliance tech to one race and then wait until I could talk to them again.
Remember you can give the Alliance tech to them, and without closing the diplomacy screen propose an alliance next, saving you a few months time.
Congratulations to KseAli if he would read this on taking the 1st spot in Solar - Civ with such a drive :)
KseAlis: TA is much harder than DA/DL, especially because of the lower starting capital and stricter economy in the early game. In addition the AI performs better at the same difficulty setting. To top it off, some key techs (Technology Capital) take longer to research because they are further down the tech tree.
It also happens in some other cases. It's a remnant of a bug that was partially solved during TA beta-testing...
I was under the impression that poeple won't start leaving the planet until the empire's approval is below (21, or 29%?) so in the late game you could have a giant 24 bil planet with around 40 approval and have it steadily grow.
With approval below 46% your planet's population won't grow but will remain status quo.
I have finally raised the diffuclty level,WWW Link,Two of my best games ever.
This reminds me that I should really bump my difficulty level as well, been playing at the same level for months and months. By the way Seth, don't underestimate what you did since TA is harder than DA/DL on the same difficulty level - many people even say that you the difference is a full level (so cakewalk TA = easy DA/DL, etc.) It's just fun & interesting increasing difficulty gr
I can't figure out how to post the image without a website to place it on
Imageshack or photobucket will do the trick; you upload the image there and get a link that you can insert in your posts here.
Nocilucus NoctilucusI r teh grammar nazi.
Thanks captain, to be honest I didn't even notice... Somehow my nickname seems to get mangled in a different way every round :)
Funny to see how KP's enormous score suddenly lead to 3 other players exceeding the 50K mark :)
Just strummed it on my guitar...its tough to find a beat that it sounds good with though
Almost anything sounds good enough if you play it slow enough... Massive reverb and let every note die before starting the next one ;) And yes, it's nice to see some 'new' people joining the MVL!
I think a key point is also to convince less experienced people to join and at the very least give it a try. It's all too easy for people to wander into the thread and be intimidated by some of the discussions and posted scores (not mine of course :p )
... and the well documented tech inflation bug that effectively cripples all AIs - making it far too easy to beat them into submission...
Though forget about a quick technology victory under those conditions... At least for us mortals ;)
The Fanged God Oh yes, the Fanged God, i was once a god and i would always have fun duels with him, until i was reborn as a mortal Geckodon.
You must have done a lot of wrong things in your previous life then, if you're downgraded like this from god to mortal Geckodon ;)
Depending on the race you choose I'd go for an influence or early conquest strategy, at least if it's a tiny/small/medium galaxy. You'll need a strong military (Spin control center!) and/or good diplomacy to avoid being declared war on every few weeks - so many races on a map tend to cause "close borders" and "alarming influence" factors that have a negative influence on your relations with the AI's. Extra trade routes (ideally 2 per AI) and any treaties also help to improve relations.<
Well, they do have approval buildings so the combination of powerful unique buildings & a few empty tiles to be filled with approval buildings and a political capital is quite ok. I did tend to run into financial trouble later on though once I had more of the Thalan research & production buildings (they have considerably higher maintenance costs per MP / TP than the normal factories and labs)
...Also, I've heard that trade is broken- the route value doesn't increase the further the freighter is. Has anyone else seen that? Would explain why the Korx don't have the balls they used to.
True though there is a small increase over time of the route value, but then regardless of where the freighter is.
So you swore for a full 3 minutes? ;)
Their major weakness is espionage on those nice super buildings + their economy (their manufacturing and research buildings have a maintenance cost of about 1bc per production/research point, far more than other civilizations).
To build on Capn_Danger's point: I usually only bother with loyalty buildings when I see one of my planets is getting close to flipping (Influence Points of the AI close to reaching 4.00 or higher).
As far as I know there is no separate reporting (yet?) in Metaverse or AltMeta between DA/DL and TA. So far the TA scores have been lower overall compared to DA/DL, mainly due to the following reasons: 1) Tougher economy early on 2) Advanced AI makes it more difficult reaching the same objectives at the same difficulty level, so makes it harder to obtain the same score 3) New tech trees, in particular the fact that some key score boosters such as Tech Capital, Spin Control C

Awesome KzintiPatriarch! It's mind boggling that after all the tweaking and attempts from expert players such a breakthrough is still possible using Dark Avatar :)
