Welcome to the new members :) SanChonino, any contribution is much appreciated; after all our empire has the most members and even with some awesome character scores near the top, many lower scoring submissions will sum up to an important part of our total score. Speaking about score, since today I'm no longer the lowest scoring senator...
Some more tips besides what was posted already: 1) Research down the path to "Total majesty" and build a Spin control center. This will give a huge boost to the perceived military score of all ships in orbit around that planet --> will dissuade AI's with far lower military rating from attacking you. In addition (perceived) military strength is one of the factors to get to an alliance with AI's. 2) Trade with 1 or 2 AI's to boost your cash and improve relationships. Longer trade route

Since it's usually easier to rise in the AltMeta rankings (compared to Metaverse), post here what you've just accomplished or still plan to do. To kick off the thread, Ferrel has recently reclaimed his first spot in Solar - Civ, but with this weekend's submissions I should be able to trade places again. In Galactic - Civ I'm in 5th place and slowly descending since it's been a while since I played any such games. In all other rankings I'm nowhere near the top 10 board :

Actually I had the same a couple of times, especially with too many AI's and a starting planet that was too far in the corner of the galaxy. Once you hit -500bc you're usually doomed to crawl further until you can invade those last planets. If you're a rather slow starter (compared to ZYW standards) you may research some basic weapons towards the end of the game so you can take out any small ships orbiting the enemy's planets. If the enemy is expanding too fast, it may help to t

Sounds like it :) It's often interesting to see in the Metaverse scores how many start with large or even bigger maps & cakewalk, achieving lower scores than on their more recent submissions of small maps.

Recently I "discovered" AltMeta. It really allows players to rise quickly through the ranks of some categories. Some ZYW got me into the top 10 for Solar - CIV. The current MVL round caused me to rise to top 5 in Galactic - C
One exception is if the weekly payment is lowest on a shorter term lease (happens sometimes) I've never exceeded 20K in cash since by the time I reach 10K I will either buy some unique building or upgrade part of my fleet through lease/buying.

You could have taken a smaller font Silverbeacher, but having been part of the MVL for quite some time, I can only agree and recommend that people at least check it out (and hopefully join) :)
Thanks! By the way, is having 3 econ/tech/... capitals cumulative in score (e.g. when you take over 2 from AI's)? If that would be the case, I can imagine that would help a great deal in increasing one's ZYW score.
