[link="https://forums.galciv2.com/301684"]WWW Link[/link] has a lot of helpful strategies for the early game, have a look at what you're doing differently what could cause you to lose. Also, how exactly are you losing, are you falling behind in military, going into debt, ...? What race and abilities have you chosen? Some are easier to start with.

True, but on the other hand going for an ascension victory will only affect foreign relations with - (1 crystal) or -- (2 or more crystals) so it doesn't mean automatically that all AI's will declare war on you. Allies don't even seem to mind it at all.

I've seen this question before, but the search function doesn't always help a lot :) Anyway, the idea is to spend all ability points, the AI will do the same. On the highest difficulty levels (e.g. suicidal) the AI even starts getting additional bonuses to economy, social & military production. That's not the case on challenging though.

Perhaps Stardock could turn this question into a structured poll (at least I haven't seen such one yet) to capture the learnings to apply in future titles? I would agree with rakenan that for me the unique techs had the greatest impact; however the AI behaves much more believably / clever / realistic in quite a lot of cases, which I appreciate more than the overall increased difficulty. So I'd say it's a really great job done on the AI on 2 levels. Overall splendid job on the b

I haven't noticed, played several MV games and 2 tournament games yesterday and today, using TA 1.9 However with one of the tournament games, it seems the submission wasn't picked up at first: I entered username and password, etc. but the score never reached the Metaverse database; when I reloaded the endgame I could re-submit and the score ended up in the MV database.

Me too, I've noticed the AI using spies much more aggressively and in far bigger numbers. Secondly I also felt like spies were more expensive / slower to train at the start. Not sure though whether the cost still increases as rapidly as before, and I couldn't tell whether having enemy spies around increased the cost as well. Could it be that they infected your manufacturing and/or capital, indirectly influencing the cost/time it would take you to train a spy?

Going for ascension does make a big difference though, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're in a strong position. All 3 AI's were cool or worse when I was "ascending". Then I dropped the thing and a few turns later, 2 out of 3 were friendly. After allying with them they didn't mind my ascension anymore.

Some more things to consider: 1) It looks like the AI's are beating you in the race to bigger hulls and/or better weapons. After the necessary rather basic research, econ, efficiency and population growth techs, it's time for military techs. I typically stop already at lasers, then move on to medium hulls. Only then will I continue along the laser branch. 2) Spin Control Center (at the end of the yellow diplomacy branch, leading to Total Majesty). The increased diplomacy will helps

As an alternative, the Altarians are a nice choice if you want to focus on research. Then adapt your research order to focus on diplomacy and economy. You can kill 2 birds with 1 stone researching up to Total Majesty (the end of one of the yellow branches) which will: 1) Increase your diplomacy skills (every step taken towards Total Majesty gives an improvement) 2) Allow you to build a Spin Control Center, which multiplies the military "impression" of all ships in orbit around t

In addition if you have Twilight of the Arnor, you can participate in the tournaments where you can compare your metaverse score with others who played on the exact same map. Also once you're a bit familiar with the game, feel free to join the Metaverse League which is some sort of monthly team competition - very enjoyable and from experience I'd say you learn a lot about GalCiv2 tactics.

So far I didn't notice more cash anomalies in TA, though I haven't really kept count of the 100 bc ones (let alone the 1 bc anomalies :)) I did get a few more 1% economy bonuses. Do we see a pattern emerging here? Haven't played TA's latest release enough, but I have the impression it takes longer to get a research alliance with the AI.

My experience with the Korath so far in TA is that things went considerably slower as it takes longer to get to Tech Capital. Also, I have the impression the AI is slightly better prepared against ZYW's; as early as June/July I've had AI's parking colony ships in orbit of their planets, even though there were still some PQ 8 - 10 planets to be colonized. Might be a coincidence though.

Neilo: in your case the ageing of ZYW's in Altmeta may be just a little bit more extreme than for other players but I'm sure many of us will see our ranking drop like a brick when that happens. By the way, Ferrel, seems you'll need to submit something new to reclaim that 1st place in C-Solar, your scores must have been expiring faster than mine.

Well, military is an important factor but not the only one. Check the "Report" on the AI civilizations and look at plusses and minuses. Each plus can be improved to 2 plusses; some minuses can be negated as well. That should give you a clue how to get to a close relationship. And of course overwhelming military score helps an enormous lot (hint: Spin Control Center ;) ) Difficulty factor makes a difference as well, or at least I've had that impression multiple times.<br
... How long have you been playing this one game?I've never played a gigantic map. I have tried a large/abundant, but it was at an easier difficulty and I quit playing after a very short time when it became apparent I was completely dominating the poor AI.
I believe his game has slowed to 1-2 turns per real-life day, speaking about patience... As far as I can remember I haven't tried anything bigger than "large" and score-wise it doesn't seem worth it compared to

Keep the seat warm for me ;) You won't see a lot of action from my side this week until the weekend, so there's your window of opportunity - not that you need one anyway...
